Compare today's anime with anime from the 80's-early 00's, it gets less action oriented and less about pushing the medium, and more about cute girls doing cute things. It drives the market, and the majority of figures being made are from these kinds of series. It just reminds me of that old animator talking about how they would liek to make anime liek they used to, but it just doesn't sell anymore, and otaku loser types drive the market, and then it hard cuts to the young animator who was some horny degenerate.
tl;dr resident evil protagonists aren't moe enough for degenerate Japanese, and they don't really care about the overseas market unless they're bandai or yamaguchi. But they're too busy printing money with marvel shit to do videogame stuff anymore.
