The boxes themselves are usually made of cheapshit acidic cardboard, but there's really no damage to your toy as long as it's not touching it.
However, the bubble plastics that keep your toys safe? Cheapest shit plastic there is and that will leak plasticizers AND make sure to trap all them gases inside the box and onto your toys.
So ontop of the plasticizers that are slowly seeping out of your toys, the plastic bubbles are seeping plasticizers faster and anything they touch will react with your toy's plastics.
Of course, this happens over the course of 5-15 years, so the degradation is pretty slow and any yellowing or dimpling will be hard to notice.
If you keep your toys outside of their box, degradation is a lot slower. If it's untested plastic, it can start degrading after 5 or so years, but usually it takes 20-60 years.
Hard to actually say and it doesn't matter how much your toys cost, because even collector stuff isn't always tested like pic.
