Does anyone here know anything about microman 2004? I've been looking for general info (Quality, durability, posability) but its remarkably difficult to come by in english. Acro Year X are the series I'm most interested in specifically.

Super hit or miss, a lot of mine became very flimsy after a but of posing. And most degraded over time due to the clear plastic used. That said, any solid plastic ones should be okay, like devilman. They're fun little fiddly guys, but really frail.
Get a few cheaper ones just to see for yourself.

I had the Microman and GIJoe versions of Kicker and let's just say that I only regret getting rid of one of them....

These guys were extremely flimsy

When you say flimsy, do you mean their articulation just gets really loose or that they become fragile and break?

Have you tried tightening their joints if its the former? Any success?

Don't buy any that use the clear plastic, because they were fragile as fuck when they were brand new. Who knows how much more fragile they are today.

Apart from that, they're amazing. One of the best articulated lines ever. The licensed stuff uses the same engineering, so you should look into those instead.

Any clear piece can break on you at any random movement. They might as well be made of porcelain with how easy they are to break.

The joints are smooth and nice, but considering the majority of mine broke, who knows how long lasting that is.

Its unfortunate they're so fragile because the designs of some of the clear ones are very neat.

Would it be viable to buy a clear one like in the OP image and swap out all the armor bits onto a suitable non-clear blank body?

But yeah, if you have a blank or other figures, they're interchangable. Takara was cheapo as fuck in that respect, because they reused so much on simplistic bodies. Stuff like this has just the details drawn onto the blank smooth parts.

Yeah that should work, but I'm gonna assume the cost is gonna be really steep for that. There's a batman and batgirl two pack on ebay for 15 shipped. I'd say get them first to see if you even like them

Highly recommend the Magne Acroyear Phobos.

Bought a few Acroyears from the different lines:
AX-11 Acroscorl had black plastic joints that crumbled after a couple years.

AX-22 AcroMedalg required a screwdriver to get his gauntlets off, but the screws stripped immediately. Sold him soon after.

However, I still have the Magne Acroyear Phobos.
As solid as he was 15 years ago. Plus without the armor on, the magnet joints make him the most flexible humanoid figure I own. And the gimmick is fun as hell to play with.
Not sure if there were issues with any of the other Magne Force figures, but if you can find one for a reasonable price, I'd get it.

Somehow even the non-plastic parts on them degraded over time. The chrome started flaking off the balls and the magnets crumbled.

That has nothing to do with hamhandling.
The figures were known for their shitty translucent plastic that'd crumble even inside the blister card.
Seemed like a common problem with Takara toys at the time since the Webdiver toys were also infamous for brittle translucent plastic.

I remember reading that they went over the top with massproducing them to the point where moulds would wear out and the parts would cool off too fast.

Something similar is happening over the last years with Lego and pieces that years ago were perfectly fine would now crack only a few months or even days after assembly because they're producing too much too fast.
They even once admitted that they made too many bricks a while ago.

I bought this whole set. Acro Skull, Scorl, Snek and Alien dude.

I opened Scorl, the least interesting one to me first, and he was pretty dang cool. So then I decided to just go ahead and open the one I wanted most, Acro Skull...

The dang thing's knees broke straight out of the package. Never opened the other two as a result. I still have them in my Microman box.

I loved collecting them around the early 2010's. A lot of great figures. But they are becoming more and more scarce online. It's hard to recommend to newcomers when a lot of the cool guys are hard to get for a decent price now.
