Pic related happened, but that was either
>A. Maximal, the descendants of Liege Maximo, the Prime of Lies, were not in fact Onyx’s original beast-formers but instead, like Shockwave(as Onyx) were concealing themselves in an outer shell of deception.>or B. They, like Bludgeon, Monstructor, and later the Decepticon Vengence Division fleet they were attacking, are mutated/evolved into slightly more spiny and organically-curved forms by exposure to Ore-11, “Evolution”, absorbed by Unicron from Eukaris.Either way though it’s essentially a moot point though since two issues later they’re back in they’re inexplicably original beast-former forms, (though the other Unicron aligned bots like Bludgeon keep their very slightly altered forms), and then the Maximals are all killed of by various resisting forces, and neither plot thread is ever address or goes anywhere again.
Yeah the Unicron event was alright in bits, but was overall a bit of a poorly paced, rushed, hot mess, one which was made to prematurely end the continuity after Hasbro or IDW apparently decided with the Visionaries series that the Brand-Crossovers they were forcing weren’t working, so instead just burn it all down and start again.
And then they started the slowest burn driest (beginning at least) rebooted continuity I have ever seen.
