I have 10 or so valks of those but I don't think I will buy anymore with the economy going to shit and these things becoming more expensive lately.

The latest Arcadia VF-0? The blue one? Yeah cough up 50k yen you filthy gaijin.

VF-19 Advance is still my favorite.

I do but I mostly have everything I want. Not really interested in the more modern media based stuff but I pick up a few here and there to check them out. I'm mostly into SDFM/Plus/Zero, with some stuff from the others here and there. I picked up the Chogokin VF-1S, but at this point nothing turns me off more than having to rebuy new versions of expensive figures so it was just a one-off. The Yamato/Arcadia stuff might be dated but I'm fine with them still. Mainly just picking up stuff I missed out on and hunting for reasonable prices.

like all /m/ classics, I suggest starting from the 1982 show. if you can get by the animation style, it's very enjoyable and intriguing. from there, just go by production order. be sure not to miss Do You Remember Love after the OG series because it's one of the best entries in the franchise.

Yeah, I get that people tend to think the more recent Valkyrie designs got too same-y, but they still have some gems, especially the SV-262Hs Draken III which got me checking out Macross in the first place. this thing is sex with wings.

I wish Bandai would revive the Robot Damashii Valk line. I have zero interest in the transformations. I'd much rather pay $50~ for a good quality super poseable Valk toy than sell my kidneys for something that wastes most of it's engineering on things I don't care about. Yeah, but then again Delta didn't give us that much of a new design at all. from a DX chogokin standpoint, Frontier churned out at least 4 new units (VF-25 + renewal, VF-171, YF-27, and YF-29) with all their respective variants. they're also doing Macross Plus now apparently, since we got the YF-19/VF-19Advance and we're getting a YF-21 and possibly a VF-11. meanwhile, Delta gave us only the VF-31 which has been milked to death, and the SV-262 which only saw one release so far. I would've liked to see more diversity in the designs rather than mere variants.

It seems like an unpopular opinion here, but I don’t like Bandais YF-19 as much as Arcadia. People seem to hate the minimalist tampons of Arcadia(and charging so much more for the premium is sleazy I admit) but I feel it captures the 2D animation beautifully.

The 25 27 and 29 might as well be variants of the same valk. The 31 and 262 are different enough between themselves.
Also Kawamori is working on a new Valk for the 2020 movie, but corona will probably delay it even further.

The HMR VF-1s are... fine. Remember it’s a decade-old tooling with a few new joints thrown in for stability. The mass production VF-1A and the assorted two-seater variants are my favourites, I find the paint deco on the more famous units oddly underwhelming. The Destroids, VF-4s, and VF-2SSs, on the other hand, are some of my favourite figures in any range. The Spartan, Defender, and Monster are some of the most brilliantly-made and underrated mecha toys on the market, in my opinion.

Other toylines offer larger size/more complexity/finer detail with this price range.
Fucking Gundams have more complex transformations these days and still are cheaper.

what other toylines? name one. Metal build Gundams offer pretty much the same amount of detail, diecast parts, and figure size at roughly the same price point as 1/60 valks. SOCs are smaller and not "detailed" at all, unless you're talking newer SOCs which can cost almost twice a 1/60 valk. it doesn't help that Macross merchandise are very niche due to fucking harmony gold ruining everything, so they have to produce everything with more limited numbers, which pumps up the price.

They're nice but you have to ignore the partsforming. At least it's just the landing gear.

I'd like to see the 1/55 Takatokus make a comeback but that's even less likely than a DX that's not severely underproduced and sells out 12 seconds after midnight.

They did both Frontier and 7 Valks first in the VF100 and VFHM lines.

a literal rubik's cube, especially the hand/gunpod part. also add to the fact that you have to orient some parts a certain way, and shimmy certain parts out of the way multiple times because the toy was designed so precisely and has that tight of a clearance.

Since I have both (and the MG Ex-S too if you can see the booster parts in the corner of the pic), I know for a fact that you clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, nigger.

Yes, it's fantastic. Just be prepared for some of the best AND the worst of TV animation ever; some bits were animated by Hideaki Anno and look gorgeous, others (the knife fight) are keksworthy. DYRL is an amazing spectacle, but not quite as stellar storytelling-wise as the show, though for a compression of a TV show into a movie it isn't bad at all.

What you're going to want to do is find a vakyrie factory KO of the Arcadia/Yamato VF-1S. Mainly you'd just be painting up the FAST/Strike pack and adding red along areas, most importantly the visor and nosecone, as well as swapping the red and black stripes on the chest.

Kawamori's designs are far more complex than any transforming MS in Gundam barring the Victory Gundams and maybe the EX-S.

I own this Minmei Figure I think from the same company. It is OK, but the plastic feels like it may be more fragile that a figuarts. Some joints were a little loose and it had an inconsistent feel. I have Misa on preorder but her release keeps being pushed back.

I literally just put my most recent two Valkyries in the display case. I actually managed to snag two kairos for a killer price from Amiami. It’s probably one of if not my favorite Valkyries, it’s damn near perfect. The other was the DX YF-19 which was pretty great but the hips are scary tight.

I'm baffled that they didn't do this on the DX. The 1/72 kit does it and the DX copies that kit's hip articulation, so why not the transformation as well? Same goes for the kit's ankle tilt panel.

yes, but think of it this way: you're paying an extra $60-80 for the whole shebang. the VF-19A contains the ADVANCE pack, fast packs, PPB punch effect parts and 3 stands, while the YF-19 FSP contains everything I mentioned (sans ADVANCE pack and the 2 stands), a Fold Booster, and a full armanent of missiles. it's more than a bang for your buck in my book and worth checking out.

I have both, The hips on the bandai kinda suck for a few reasons, The rest of the figure is really great. Arcadia has its own charm and i really do recommend their toys if you can afford them. Especially the VF-4 and VF-0S.

I have both the Arcadia and Bandai versions. They both have issues with accuracy and design. Bandai gets the edge a tiny bit (poseability) but really they both are good. Especially the tinted canopy on the Arcadia.

I love Bandai and most of their Valks are top tier, but this particular case just feels like Soulless vs. Soul. In some ways Arcadia's YF-19 feels like a swan song, especially since they haven't done much new since the VF-0s. Its definitely dated engineering wise compared to Bandai and Sentinel's newer mecha stuff, but it serves almost as a last vestige of the days of analog toys before CAD took over. Granted I don't doubt CAD was used by Arcadia.

I feel like if you had to pick a swansong the premium SDF-1 is it. The SDF-1 is one of if not the best Macross toys ever made. Sadly they are a bit of a shade of the former yamato Glory. If they re release the Ingram i would be so happy. But i know that won't happen. The new VF-0D looks amazing but i can't justify the price.

I've heard some people argue that the yamato 1/48 have a better fighter mode than both the yamato/arcadia 1/60s and the new bandai 1/48 but I only partially agree with that.
Yeah the yamato 1/48 favors fighter over battroid it's spectacular in that mode but the low hanging arms/shoulders might be a deal breaker for some people.

I don't remember exactly how much elintseekers were selling for but it was a LOT. By re-issuing the elintseeker arcadia wiped several hundred dollars off the value of my elintseeker it was annoying. They did it with the SDF-1 too.

The 27 is already close to the renewal releases though. They were improving over releases since the original 25s were rushed as fuck.
It went 25v1 -> 27 -> 29 -> 25 renewal based on the 29. The gap between the 27 releases wasn't that big

The price of the Kairos isnt just web exclusive BS. Bandai Cut the production so a lot of pre-orders were cancelled too and all but those who ordered it directly from bandai in the first few weeks got fucked. So people who ordered it pretty early or through middlemen got shafted hard and thus the price went sky fucking high in addition to the webshop BS. Now why did Bandai do this, you ask? Well there are theories (QC problems, underwhelming performance of delta merch maybe...) All we know is that the line got cut and the Kairos might just be one of the rarest Macross toys ever now.

What went wrong? Kawamori used to be better than this. Better at suspending disbelief when it comes to what is supposed to be a piece of military hardware.

In his defense, he has to take into account a lot more factors in his design now, such as Armored parts. In the VF-1 days, armored packs are just pieces slapped into battroid mode, and they'd cast that shit off before switching to fighter/gerwalk. ever since the precedent he set with the VF-25 Armored pack, his designs seem to focus more around keeping the armored pack together in all modes, as opposed to a cleaner silhouette (at least for the protag valks).
In contrast, his most recent non-protag valk the Draken III has been one of the most unique since the VF-4 lightning, as made apparent by anons in this thread. the VF-171 is also a pretty clean design.

Mine was the black “Nightmare” one. I was keeping my eye on the frigging triangles, who knew the swing bars would grind themselves into oblivion? One day I may try and use Zap glue to try and salvage it, but the plastic itself seems incredibly sandy and brittle, so for now it sits in the box, like my original Arcadia Garland whose front cowling popped off due to shitty glue.

No one really asked for it, the design isn’t toy friendly so the end products are likely to end up messy. Kawamori and Tenjin also supervise most Macross stuffs so no one wants to bring non-Nue designs to them.
That being said I love how they used Obari box arts for the VF-2 releases instead of Tenjin, it was a nice touch.

If you like good anime, yes. It has a war story and a love triangle and the love triangle is better than what is in most animes now (it is balanced and he does pick a girl at the end).

Most of the DX VF-31 are the same except for color scheme and head design so whichever you like most and is easiest to get is probably the best. The releases with the biggest differences are the VF-31E which has a radome backpack and VF-31A which has a different wing design and was a very limited release so it will be hard to get for a good price.

Messer and Keith's units are the most iconic of the show overall, Messer's unit is actually used more than Hayate's own Vf-31J in the show's second half.

I only want a good 1/70 Super Valkyrie to repaint into G1 toy Jetfire but I'm either always late to get one or lose my desire for it when I look at the aftermarket prices.
It doesn't help that I care more for that toy's design than for the character himself and I don't care all that much for the design anyway. It's cool but to me it's just a "hey that's pretty cool" cool, not a "I must own this" cool.

I picked the scale out of the top of my head, I honestly don't remember which is the right scale.
What I really want out of the scale of one of these is that it's about Prime Trilogy leader class size so about 23 to 25 centimeters or roughly 9 inches tall.

the one in >>8130689 is Arcadia's 1/60 scale. the one i posted was the DX Chogokin which is 1/48 scale. aside from the size, there are some detail differences, but that's it. also the 1/48 actually has some waist articulation because its size accomodates it.

Yeah, sorry. I posted that before updating.

I also went to dig out my CW Ultra Magnus, which I use as reference because I want it to remain the biggest guy before getting to combiner and baseformer level, and he is around 22cm/8.7in tall. I think I'll be fine with that bootleg 1/60 guy as my Jetfire.

Man, I went to check the transformation of that bootleg and the transformation of the old super valkyrie and god damn, the new transformations are always a clusterfuck.

Why not do something like having the hips slide through the nosecone while the sides of the nosecones are on springs that collapse as they get pushed in? They have the room in most of these valkyries and it wouldn't affect the gerwalk mode.

My idea is more to have each leg connected to individual joints and have like a mushroom peg running inside a rail for each side. The sides of the nose, the section under the cabin, would collapse or be collapsed before the hips are slid into place.
There would be enough room for the cockpit, or the cockpit could just be lifted for the hips to go through.

The armored parts are really a love it or hate it kind of thing especially at the price point, do you want to make your very poseable valk into a brick bristling with guns, armor and missiles? I always loved the full armor look so I got it and wasn't disappointed, it's a great set that completely changes the presence of the VF-31 on the shelf. It is very heavy once everything is attached and you won't be doing too many dynamic poses with it, also transforming the figure becomes quite a chore but it is worth it once you get it done. I am surprised Arad's 31S is so much on the secondary market, I never knew he was that popular.

I just bought my fifth junker Jetfire on eBay. So far, that makes 3 full Jetfires (sans armor or gun) I’ve been able to cobble together, at around $35 for each purchase.
I just need to get 2 more sets of arms, and a couple of the interior back piece, and I’ll have completed five of them. Sadly, I’d have been closer to 4 complete figures if my 5 year old hadn’t shattered the brittle plastic on the interior back piece of the Firestone I gave him.

I have 4 of the 2002 chunky monkey reissues in okay condition. Some wear, a couple of missing bits. Stink like hell because they survived a fire. Didn't Takatoku first make their Valk in 1982? Regardless, I definitely agree with you. I have a number of other toys from that time period that I adore, but in terms of terms of technical achievement the 1/55 Valkyrie blows them all.out of the water.
