I never even really knew much about the Seacons until I googled them back when this set was announced. I get where you're coming from about the ass-end blockyness some of them suffer from, but given that the original toys had some downright abysmal bot and limb modes as a trade-off, I'll take it. Alt modes WERE priority back then, anyway. If these guys were supposed to be organic animals, it would bother me more, but given that they're all robotic, it's easy for me to reconcile.
I'm super fond of Skalor in particular. I just love his coloring and sculping. He's one of those rare toys I just wanna pick up as soon as I look at him.
