Lego's website has the instructions for the Monkie Kid sets available for download and it seems like the Monkey King Warrior Mech does and doesn't have knee joints.
The whole knee area is constructed with one large balljoint at the front and two small ones in the back so while it's generally fixed in position it also means you can technically pop out the large balljoint and actually have a working knee, although a probably pretty wobbly one.

Going through a bunch of them and it seems like the filler colors were kept at a bare minimum.
The monkey mech has like two green and two small tan bricks and the Bull Demon a few 1x2 in teal but that's about as bad as it goes.
Nothing like that godawful Steamboat Willie mess.

The diner with the Hidden Side gimmicks removed. Replaced the green brick on the back of the furnace with a generic dark gray one, prevented it from spinning by locking it and made sure the color wheel on the left couldn't spin so you can only see the gray side now.

I’m looking at it in awe as we speak, it’s honestly one of the best sets of all time. It still holds up extremely well. Honestly 4 generic troopers should be mandatory for sets like this, the minifigs in every other version have been trash.

Do you guys focus on collecting something specific like specific lines/vehicles/etc. or do you just buy whatever you think is cool and have a mishmash of random sets?
Gonna be moving into my own place later in the year so I'll be able to buy stuff again [spoiler:lit]after 10 years[/spoiler:lit]. Trying to decide what I should get since I could never get expensive stuff as a kid.

It really does, all that ghost shit feels so unnecessary and it makes the sets impossible to integrate properly into other themes.

They released so little genuine ghost figs, instead opting for cheap 'possessed' shit. The one HS set that has ghosts is two yellow fuckers and one red lumberjack. And no blue ghost either, for some reason they only felt like making the minifig blue.

If you don't want to do that, you should do what makes you happiest. If you like the aesthetic of the Lego firetruck, buy firetrucks. If you like mechs, there are lots of themes with mechs.

collect mostly retro sets at this point but the main focus of my collection is classic era Star Wars from 1999-2003. I think picking a focus makes sense and helps me from going overboard but if you are more interested in mocing than collecting just buy whatever you think has cool parts.

Thanks anon! Gear setup is pretty simple. I use four of these black gears. The first is on the axle of the rear wheels which provides the initial movement. It touches the bottom of a pair of gears mounted perpendicular to the tree. The top of this pair connects to a gear on a small "axle with stud on one end" that spins freely inside the 1x2 Technic brick. Tree is attached to the bottom of this stud.

I was worried that the math was going to require some intense SNOT conglomeration but it worked out pretty smoothly and compactly.

Spur of the moment. While I was putting it together, I realized that would cause it to grow crookedly, so I would have to make it spin. This is the first time I've ever built anything with working gears.

I've yet to see an individual person with a proper Lego train/city layout. By that I mean baseplates and a little bit of landscaping, buildings and stuff. It's always LUGs and events. Individual builders at most have like a bit of track on the floor or a table somewhere without any baseplates and buildings scattered unattached to anything. Is it even possible for a person to build a layout on their own? Can you link examples?

My entire idea for the theme stemmed from the astronaut’s helmet, from the Series 10 CMF paintball player. I really liked the helmet design, but didn’t know what to do with the paint splat on it. I considered heresying it, but decided to instead ask myself “why would there be a green splotch on a spaceman’s helmet?” The first thing that popped into my head was the facehugger attaching to the astronaut in the movie Alien. So I just ran with the Alien idea from there. I also find the “ancient alien” concept kind cool, so I added some deep Lego lore in the form of an Islanders statue. Turns out they were actually effigies of an ancient alien race that visited them long ago. Who knew?

Actually, let's do a little test: Look at the faces of pre-2005 minifigures, and then the ones after that. What's the biggest difference you notice? Especially pay attention to the eyes.

he Great Lego Space Quarantine contest of 2020 is underway.
The core concept is this: Design your own Space Theme. General guidelines are pretty loose, make something that could have served as a Space faction for LEGO in the late 80s and early 90s.
If you need inspiration and a sort of guide you can have a look at existing space themes from that period – Futuron, Blacktron, Ice Planet 2002, Exploriens, etc.

The rules:
1.Each participant may submit one build as an entry to the contest. A timestamp of your creation and the email I will then use to get in contact with you will be required when you first submit your build. To submit just reply to this post with a picture that contains your build!
2.Modern parts and complex building techniques are allowed but the end result should look like something that could fit in with original sets and themes from that period. The idea is not to try to give the guys at Neo Classic Space a run for their money but instead attempt to do what the guys building the Space set prototypes from the 80s and 90s did.
3.Bonus points are awarded if the builds are stable and have play features (although these are not hard requirements they will help your build leap/zoom/swoosh ahead of the competition).
4.A submission consists of one build of any size. That means very small builds do qualify. I have decided to make this change at the request of a poster who asked for this last thread and presented solid arguments. There is no limit to how big you can go but this is not Shiptember. The emphasis should not be on number of parts but rather on the overall result.
5.Adding lore and backstory to your submission is strongly encouraged. Heck you can even make boxes and put the sets inside if you’re autistic enough. More effort is always better.
6.Digital builds are allowed but will start off with a severe disadvantage when judged.

This upset me more when I was a kid. Especially when the play involved a structure that needed to be enclosed like a castle. Otherwise when you played an assault, the open rear needs to be off limits for attackers or people trying to sneak in. Lack of included stairs or ladders were awkward as well. If the attackers need siege tower or ladders to scale the walls, then what happens on the inside when they want to go to the upper floor? Equally annoying were space bases where nobody can leisurely take his helmet off.
Now I'm okay with sets that feel like showcase or display pieces that allow to view the interior without having to manipulate the model.
But for play purposes it's better to have a complete model that can be opened during play if the need arises.

So, the Great Lego Space Quarantine contest of 2020 is now officially over ( a few hours later than initially intended because I overslept).

I'd like to thank all those who took the time to build something and participate. I've been very happy to see you guys take a stab at this.
I'm also quite surprised we got so many people to submit an entry.
Other than that the quality of the entries themselves has been really good, and I'm going to need at least 2 days to really think things through and decide who's gonna win.

I know this question gets asked a lot here, but what are some good inexpensive drawers for sorting lego? I have pic related which I picked up on sale for ~$10. The only problem is that if the drawer is tilted too far forward, the slots will fall forward.

I know Acro Mills is considered gold standard, but that shit costs like $30.

Sterilite is an option for me too, but those containers don't typically have individual compartments like pic related.

Not bad, would rather have a blind bag of standardized apparel, but random head pieces/accessories for the characters for the hp one.
Not sure why you'd need multiple of a single character for any setting.
Also a randomized blind bag accessory build would be cool in the future. High doubt that would ever happen, but it would break up the monotony of army building and having dozens of bookshelves, or stud shooters.

Did you skip over my post? I am not the person complaining about everything else. In fact, I ONLY complain about people wanting stupid things to be an IDEAS set cause it kinda devalues the entire thing.
Also, why can you not just build it yourself? Hear me out, this isn't some complex thing, it's a Lego set based off a TV show set, and even the prototype picture of the Lego version is just 3 walls, a floor, a table, and clutter. You can EASILY get ALL the parts needed for the figs and the set itself for ~$50 on bricklink. It simply is a dumb idea to make into an actual set, and I really wish Lego didn't open the floodgates with that dumbass Big Bang Theory set and the more recent Friends set. Like good God, those are the absolute last things that should have been made into Lego sets, but I know they sell well cause redditors like to display them on their desk at work.

Old design is better which is extremely surprising since the Clone Wars cartoony style is normally trumped by the movie style clones. The perfect phase 2 clones were the 212th ones from the battlepack.

The one that just came with the 4 normal mandos was hilarious, same with the Senate Commandos one. It's like Lego went "oh, so our fans want battlepacks consisting of 4 of the exact same figure" then released two with the absolute worst duplicates to have, as both are better in very small groups.

See, now THAT'S a good set. The problem is lego needs to make sets on major jobs for it to sell well which i don't understand at all. That's why every lego city is just filled with modular buildings, no city sets. It's called lego "city" and there are no shops, markets, anything. Friends is so lucky.

Definitely. This towball is regular ABS, not the composite rubber like the Mixel towball with axle pin, so I suppose they could make it in lots of colors.

I like to think that's all a unibrow that connects to his sideburns. That face is just fucked in general; the tiny shades make it look like the face is pinched, and the extremely low hairline looks funny with almost every hair piece. I had one already and laugh every time I make a fig with it.

Yes. It has enough substance to be its own theme but it is essentially a Japanese Castle theme. Kinda like how Paradisa has enough to be its own theme but its lumped under City because it does fit. Of course if you mention this to castlefags they immediately start getting defensive.

This. It's going to be tough for Lego to come up with a new adventure minidoll theme that doesn't retread what Elves covered. Really hoping for the post-Sweet Mayhem space minidoll line but it will probably be forever just a rumor.

These sets are wonderful, but even better to dissect for parts. Flesh-skinned minifigs can use the hairstyles/headgear to look like proper minifig elves as well.

Remember, mini dolls are secondary citizens with dysfunctional legs and should be scalped for resources. Minifigures über alles!

Just a bit of Trivia. Balljoints are colour locked.

The plastic they use isnt ABS and the only colours they can get similar to the Lego Pallatte is a Dark Bluish Grey and Light Bluish Grey.

This is likely just a pin with towball!

According to his Resume (http://thejang.net/work/resume/) he studded Plant Biology at Contra Costa College from 1996-1998 and then at the University of California from 1998-1999 and then worked at Ask Jeeves from 1999 to 2001. Also, he lists himself as being a "Member, U.S. Judo Federation, 1991-94."

If he was 31, then he would have been at collage from the age 7 to 10 and then worked for Ask Jeeves, as a Senior Graphic Designer and then as a Site Engineer from the ages of 10 to 12. And he would have been a practicing Judoka and Federation Member between the ages of 2 and 5.

Also, I'm pretty sure he's mentioned somewhere else that he was born in the late 70s, like around 77-78, which would make him around about 42-43.

I just noticed plain dark orange legs on the raft guy. Only other minifig with those that comes to mind is Obi Wan in a few sets. Finally won't have to spend 20 bucks for a few pairs. Feels good.

Looked like the overalls were a separate piece in the early reveals. Bit of an obvious choice for the two most accessorizing companies around.
Can't wait for kids to decimate them and everyone starts complaining about quickly developing cracks in the plastic.
