I think it would work well nowadays, they just need to add a basic plot with the characters retrieving mcguffins in various time periods, or something like that, and probably a female character and villains.
Each set would be set in a different time and place from classic lego themes. I'd update the design of their vehicles to be more coherent, maybe in a steampunk style.

None. This set is the first memory I have of Christmas as a kid. Has led to a life of disappointment because no other major playset has managed to match it. Even compared to modern builds, it's got a lot of actual beauty despite simple techniques.

Although if I was a kid again, I'd think the original Nexos Knights fortress would be a shit ton of fun to play with everyday.

ah. Yeah, that would actually be useful. I think in the end being unable to connect helmets to non-holow studs would annoy me a lot though.
And if the axle were shorter and the axle hole at the top of the stud you could exchange modern minifig parts with these hypothetical ones, which would be a huge bonus

We have had many asian palaces and castles, including Ninja series and Ninjago. Meanwhile this is pretty much the only Egyptian temple so far. There were few tombs and even a pyramid but no other temples. My absolute jewel in my collection. Reminds me of a trip to Karnak.

After I got Barracuda Bay I felt like it's time to be done with lego for me. I've looked upon my collection - hundreds of sets collecting dust or parted out in variety of boxes. I don't have time for building mocs and I totally don't want to spend hours sorting parts. I agree that more traditional minifigures would be preferred for myself as well and most adult fans. But I think at some point we need to judge the theme for what it is and not what we would have preferred it to be. I don't see a value to having a smaller set with Mario in it, because you need some decent amount of "level" for him to interact with for it to be worthy anything. If Mario was available stand alone, he'd probably cost $25 to $30, and then you'd have to buy a $20+ set for him to interact with.

More generally, I think there is a tendency among LEGO fans to try to argue that a product they don't like won't sell well, for various reasons. Probably happens in other fandoms as well. But to me it is not really that productive of a discussion, because we consumers never have that much data on what sells well. And it tends to start from a place of justifying an opinion of the product. For myself, I am cautiously optimistic about LEGO Mario and will get at least a couple sets to try it out. If nothing else, it is introducing some interesting parts.

That's the thing, the whole interaction gimmick is something unwanted to me, same with the simplicity of the sets. That's why I think these are specifically designed with kids in mind, and that's cool. But having people here who unironically find these appealing including the dumb gimmick is what I can't understand. Yes, all of us buy what at the end of the day are just toys, but these Mario sets are just too much.

I actually like Mario. I've been playing the games for over 25 years, and I would gladly buy a well designed Peach castle, or a stage 1-1 diorama, or a Bowser's castle or airship. But I couldn't give less of a shit about that ugly square Mario, barebones sets and kiddy gimmick. In fact, I would have prefered minifigure-centric sets as a kid instead of this shit, too.

My guess would be that the original designs used the original helmets, and the artist designed based on those. At some point they likely switched to the new helmets and it was to late to make changes to artworks. Just a theory though.

I'm actually surprised that Baron managed to get the ruby. Basically Johnny failed? What was it? If I remember right, Johnny escaped with nothing and Baron got stuck with Hotep the mummy. Nah there are different textures and thicknesses to them; some are paper thin, some don't have the red stripe, some are more durable, etc... the ones I have are perfect imo, cheap but durable and fit nearly every minifig & accessory into them

The digital part of these Mario sets is pathetic, just a couple of tiny screens on the figure and some sound effects; still slightly better than Hidden Side which requires you to disregard the actual lego set almost entirely other than to flip and turn a couple of hinged pieces.

From the promo videos, game play looks really slow and boring and you're basically just following what the software dictates rather than leading the action.

I don't care that they're not regular sets with minifigs, and I like that Lego is trying something different, but this ain't it.

Honestly this. demons were great, the golems though were pretty scuffed. Not a bad idea for a set, but an entire faction of golems? ehhh.. However one wave a good lesser faction (antagonists always get the short end of the stick in original themes) doesn't sell a theme. I really think also the fact the show didn't catch on with kids really hurt it. Ninjago has really thrived thanks to kids investing in the characters, and if we're honest with ourselves collector sales only make up a small fraction of LEGO's overall sales.

Go for it. Minifigs are excellent for DnD. They are quickly customizable and easy to make very unique.
3x3 studs are perfect for average Dungeon grids, and with a 2 wide jumper, you can easily center figs.

For any Canadian Anons here, how many of you check Kijiji for sets? It's so underrated, I found a used Brick Bank on there for $375 and just resold it for $475 on Bricklink - I get extremely lucky sometimes, just found a sealed Benny's Spaceship for $180 shipped & an open/built Doubler Decker couch/2nd Benny's Spaceship for $167 shipped

A lot of the people on there don't offer shipping in the listings, but if you ask and offer to cover the costs, they'll most likely say yes

In the past I managed to score a bunch of LOTR sets for super cheap, resold them tho (regret it a lot)

Kijiji is based as fuck and sometimes way cheaper than Bricklink averages cuz the sellers dont know better for the most part (some do though)

Part of the problem, if you could call it that, is the focus on mini monsters in the second wave instead of minifigs. I really like the different built up baddies but I could have had more stone stompers too.

Lego: Redux is a theme I'd implement that has classic space, castle & pirates rolled into one
6 or 7 sets per category each year, 3 supplemental boxes every 2 years depending on demand; it'd follow the classic theme formula and there'd be 2 cheap sets, 2-3 medium priced, 2-3 big ones and one D2C that switches between castle, space and pirates each year (castle > pirates > space, repeat)

The supplemental boxes would include 4 minifigures, a bunch of pieces to make things related to the respective subtheme of Lego: Redux, and it would come in one of those plastic brick bins that Lego used to make

All the plastic and print quality would be reversed and returned to the state it was from the 90's - mid 2000s; classic style minifig faces and prints as well, maybe slightly updated in tribute to each subtheme - yellow minifigs only

No shitty movie themes, Star Wars and Shrek only; I'd also open up Lego and Lego Ideas to some more adult-oriented material such as The Matrix, Halo, COD, etc... shit that would drown Mega Construx (this is just a thought though - the Matrix would be a good one-off thing; if anything, Halo, Star Wars and Shrek only)

I'd put away Ninjago for a year or 2, overhaul superheroes and star wars to make sets that people would buy for the builds, not just the minifigs, and put Monkie Kid back in its cage and bring some more original themes that don't pander to Chinks - I'd also bring in a clothing section that'd provide both kids and adults with high-quality apparel, not some shit designs from RedBubble, I'm talking embroidered Lego logo tshirts, light jackets/windbreakers, winter coats, wallets, etc

It's not that hard, but Lego went from "only the best is good enough" to "if its mediocre, then it's alright"

At the end of the episode there is code to scan that unlock the rebuild instructions
It would be stilized like Lego City Adventures.
Classic line - 12$ boxes of 4 basic colors that are available now.
There would be three bigger extra boxes later - medieval builder, space builder, city builder.
They will include no figures but a lot of great themed bricks and pieces. Each of them would also have unique printed pieces (10 per box).

Lego Redux seems like something fun and also feasible to some extent. I imagine they couldn't make some of the retired pieces as perhaps they don't have/use the molds anymore.
Plastic quality most likely cannot be reverted as it isn't a switch to turn on and off. It would also come with the acceptance of the fact that current quality is bad, which would be a bad PR move.
The clothing idea isn't a bad one either, I'd get some decent quality minimalist designs.

Lego went from "only the best is good enough" to "oh it looks less than the best still sells so we'll roll with that hot damn".

Jokes aside, Lego might even go belly up if they didn't cut corners as people today are less inclined towards quality and there's a lot of cheap competition out there.

It's because you're searching for CMF minifigures in the "minifigures" menu. If you want all the accessories, go to the "sets" menu and go to CMF from there. Sets will include all the accessories that come with the set, unless they're listed as incomplete.

I understand that, Im kinda the same way when it comes to 3rd party accessories; I'll never buy a non-Lego minifigure, but places like BrickArms, BrickForge, Minifig.Cat, CitizenBrick, etc. are fine to me since they're pretty reputable and are purely made for Lego minifigs

The Halo armor is actually very impressive, I have around 9 Red & 9 Blue spartans, along with 3 Master Chief minifigs - I absolutely love them

I also agree that if Lego accepts that plastic quality has declined, they'd probably get shit for it, but I'd rather them take a small hit to their otherwise high reputation than have it crack and crumble over time (much like Lego bricks in recent years!)

I wish Lego stopped cutting corners; I especially hate the super plastic-y feel to the bricks these days, why the fuck do my hands get "sticky" after building a new set? It's weird, and a lot of reviews I've seen on the Lego site itself mention these issues as well

Also, Lego needs to bring back Paradisa; such a cozy theme

Well, I blame AFOLs. Like the kind you read about in news articles and Lego press releases. Sand green is a color that they can't get enough of. If I was to make a timeline of events that led to this set they would be something like:

Also this theory accounts for the reason we get sand green filler parts in other sets. They just made too much.
