McFarlane figures were probably some of the densest toys back in the day. Heavy as fuck, but because the plastic was so soft (not as soft as today's plastic), the pegs would snap.
Most vinylshit from the 70s, 80s, and 90s has already had their plasticizers leak out.
Almost every hard plastic from back then has also started to snap almost right away, especially lines like GI Joe where the plastic had to have some give to put weapons on the hands.
Stuff from COPS, Visionaries, Inhumanoids, He Man, and more had the same issues
Almost all diecast shit from back then is equally as good as today, IE, paint has already stated to flake or rub off only a few years in with any play.
Steel stuff also rotted/rusted.
You had to be extra careful with all your toys back then if you wanted to keep it looking good.
Whereas modern toys i find are much much more durable. Paint stays on longer. Plastic doesn't discolor. Even forcing joints and hands on modern figures doesn't do anything, because the pliable plastic goes back to its original shape.
There's a some exceptions here and there, but as a whole, modern stuff is a lot better. I think the high point was the late-00s and early 10s, with some slacking off in the mid-10s, but most stuff since then has improved.
