I wish they would do non battle damaged versions of SS Goku and SS Gohan with the new mold sometime. Awakening and damage Gohan are both good figures but in the display among everyone else looking completely clean and intact they're such odd ones out.

the reason it looks like shit is the same reason Jump Force looks like shit. Goku doesn't need detailed clothing and carefully sculpted hair. its an almost flat color and his hair is just a shape with no texture. thats why the figuarts look dead-on with sculpted matte plastic instead of cloth. it looks like those realistic homers

Your memory is foggy. His hair was always detailed when it wasn't being drawn by b-squad. You're right about the clothes, though.
Unfortunately lots of DBZ figures have problems with the clothes, in this case it's the obnoxious attempt at texture, but most of them look awful because of the lazy way they try to sculpt Toriyama's clothing folds and the overly-saturated glossy colors they use.
I can't bring myself to order Piccolo because the purple looks like someone just used a default color picker in PS or some shit and dumped an ugly pile of shiny garbage onto the figure and called it a day.

ok yeah that is pretty textured, but still, compare it to that figure, and the figure is even more detailed than that, like how the SS hair has sculpted grooves with darker orange shading in the middle. at most, DB hair should just have a wash and a few marks to suggest shape. figuarts already nails it

Having some highlights doesn't make it detailed. Just look at some pics of Jump Force to se the difference. Also Goku's hair is consistently a black shape in pretty much all the original manga, pic related.

It doesn't matter the lighting, SSJ hair in promos and in the hands of the best animators is typically shown with refined spikes and strands, as well as lighting and highlights. In fact in the anime when it's shown as a pale yellow blob it's usually because their ki isn't flowing and lighting them up, which makes for a dull figure unless a company wants to try some weird reflective material that makes the yellow hair look gold when light hits it. I think some of the cheap figures back in the day tried that, actually.

Here's a BBTS tip; If you go to the home page, and hit the "More" tab on the top right, and then click on the DB Figuarts image, the order in which the figures appear in the listing is a rough order of most stock to least stock.

So basically, all the figures that are sold out are at the bottom of the list, and all the figures that are still in stock near the bottom of the list have the lowest stock. Sometimes there might be only a few left of any given figure.

It's not about hues you fucking mong. Awakening goku has boots with red lines and yellow shoelaces, Raised on Earth has yellow lines and red laces. Awakening is colored using the manga as reference, on the other hand Raised on Earth uses the anime as reference.
Then there's Piccolo, his sash is red in the manga, and blue in the anime. Cell saga Gohan is the same. The Nappa figuarts is clearly based on the manga colors too.

So yeah, there are color differences between manga an anime. Something that everybody in these threads knows since forever other than you, I guess.

No, they don't. That's actually the entire reason there were SDCC recolors of the 1.0s because of subtle color changes and variants in Toriyama's illustrations and the anime. Well, the fact that a second wave is even in the works probably means that they’ve been selling decently enough. I personally haven’t bought any, but they seem like they’d be fun to play around with. They’ve certainly got more articulation than a lot of figures in the same size range.

Give one a try. At $10 dollars you're not breaking the bank, and at worst you have a little desk toy. They're far more smartly articulated than Dragon Stars, and it's almost surprising that they're being made by the same company. If you've gotten a Shodo Neo DB figure, you can expect around that, but a bit bigger, and better articulated.

What actually drives me nuts about this is that I actually wanted to set up a saiyan display like this but none of the Trunks figures' hair light up like that. It has everything to do with whatever fluorescent paint they occasionally use on figures.

From what I've owned, awakening Goku, Super Vegeta, battle damage Gohan, OG and SDCC Broly, DBS FP Broly and even Time Patroller's SS hair all light up under these lighting conditions.

The 2.0 SS3 Goku's hair does it too, but the paint they used on the faces isn't the same so it just had a dead spot in the front and it looks bad, and Majin Vegeta just has neon orange eyebrows.

Unfortunately as others have pointed out restocks are seldom and only for certain releases. A lot of the releases from the past 2 years you can still get for a decent price, but some you will have to pay a good amount extra for if you really want them. It's really a very fun line to collect though, so I still kind of recommend you take the plunge.

Considering the line has been around for about 11 years now, the sheer number of figures in the line means they can't just keep them all available forever. I'm sure there's all sorts of money, time, resources, and labor involved in switch production lines around in limited facilities from one figure to the next.

Realistically, a lot of these figures do sit around for a long time, and despite people complaining about tons of Vegetas and Gokus, those are always the ones to sell out first. I'm sure retailers aren't always happy about sitting on lots of stock of B and C list characters who they can barely sell because everyone is waiting for them to go on deep clearance before they buy them.

I still think that's why Bandai is trying for the P-Bandai model in the US. Since P-Bandai is just made to order, as far as they are concerned, the people who want the figures are buying them and that's just how many they're going to make. They're not concerned with someone five years down the line complaining that they can't get a figure that's years out of production and their only avenue to get them is at a 3x price hike on the second hand market. They've moved on to newer figures.

Did anyone get their Shenron by All Fun toys? this figure has way better quality than DF. I got the DF ginyu squad members, the tien / yamcha head set, flowing goku head, and the ssb goku / vegeta head sets and they all felt cheap and fragile. I feel like red SS would have been seen as edgy, even tho we know Goku is far from it. Red hair on his base form along with Goku's eyes being colored in helped to push that thought away and I think it works fine. I don't see where they go from UI, and it doesn't seem like they do either since Goku still has yet to master UI and is instead using Omen. Super will more than likely end with Goku mastering UI in the final fight against the antagonist. At that point the only characters who could go up against him are other UI users, so the angels, the Grand Priest, and the Zenos.

Only Super Saiyan and 3 effectively exist at this point, theres no reason to differentiate anymore because it doesn't matter and no one specifically goes "SSJ1" anymore. So now you've just got SSJ, SSJ3, God (almost never used), Blue, and UI (which I'm sure at some point will progress to SSUI).

Anything else is animeshit and doesn't exist-No Bluoken, no "Perfected", no "Evolution", none of that shit.

I honestly much prefer ss4 over every form from super design-wise, but I find SSG to be the least egregious form from super.

I personally wish they handled it like they did with UI, both in terms of the semi-raised hair shape and it just being an incomplete version of SSG instead of calling the next form SSGSS/SSB.

But always remember, it could've been much worse and we could've had buff Goku with his hair stuck halfway between SS3 and SS4 wearing a fucking cape.

I think SSG was fine, when the BoG movie was in a void, and it was just supposed to be a one-off DBZ movie, pulling the series out of retirement for one last hurrah.

I still think Bandai will probably do this for Goku, maybe as next years budget Goku. I'm actually surprised they even did KaioKen 2.0 before an actual SS Goku 2.0.

They could easily release a budget Vegeta too by repainting the SSB hair black/yellow. We're basically in a situation where all the Vegetas are back off the market now, except for the Scouter Vegeta, and that's a really specific look that you can't really use for many setups other than early DBZ stuff.
