Most of children's play is centred around acting out social behaviours in order to understand societal rules and rules and boundaries around acceptable/unacceptable behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour during play is often associated with the "bad guys" or used for humour. Observed behaviours and ideas that interest the child are also integrated into play sessions
Adult play is a variation on this and is largely internalised, due to perceptions of actual role-play being unacceptable behaviour and less of a need to externalise behaviours to understand them. So, instead, adults create narratives to explore ideas and themes around behaviour, but also to expand upon ideas that interest them.
Some people do this through action figures and toys, using them as props to explore these new narrative ideas - often through photography or making dioramas.
However, removing a figure from display and posing and reposing it is also a type of explorative play.
TL;DR Yes, it's ok to play with your toys, but you probably do it differently to children.
