Bit of a false equivalency there lad. Left guy is most likely far richer and higher social class than guy on the right. But I do agree with your overall point and >>8206673 and >>8206688 sum it up. We now have the technology and supply chains to allow for such rampant consumerism while more socialist ideas (such as free/subsidised healthcare and assistance for the poor) mean that there's a safety net that prevents you from starving on the streets.

As for the Pop hoarding don't pretend that autistic collecting wasn't always a thing. Art, books, memorabilia, stamps, autographs, ect. Hell there are plenty of boomers still out there with classic G.I Joe or tin toy collections.

People have been autistically collecting figurines all throughout time. The human brain loves little figurines you can look at and arrange and show off collections of.

Same thing with stamps, clothing, shells, rings, toys, mini portraits, cards, feathers, eggs et cetera.
