There was a spazz anon a couple threads ago who was complaining pretty bad about ebay saying there are no deals to be had and he prompted this post. Also when I first came out of my dark ages some retards on here told me not to use ebay because there were no deals. Bullshit. I collect comics and other shit and have been using ebay for almost 20 years now. The problem with Lego bidders on ebay, and I don't usually see this elsewhere, is that people bid way too early. There is absolutely no reason to bid at anytime during an auction except for the last 2 or 3 minutes maybe. All these idiots bidding when there are 7, 5, 3 days left before an auction end do nothing except drive up the price for themselves and everyone else. Stop bidding, start sniping.

Something is fucked up about ebay here with this last one and I have seen this before, maybe someone can explain it to me. This was a starting bid of $143.00 with Or Best Offer. I made an offer of $145.00 which the seller didn't respond to. The automatic email I got when the item sold, said it sold for $165.00. But when I view the original listing on ebay, ebay says the winning big was $143.00 which just so happens to be the starting bid. Does anyone know which would be the real sales price and why it shows me two different prices?

i feel like the super mario theme is a risky ass move because it uses so many specialized parts and it's probably way more expensive to make, i don't think parents are gonna be inclined to buy the 60 dollar set just so they can get the mario figure to actually interest with the other sets

what gets me is that all the more play-focused aspects of the mario sets like dodging bullet bills could easily have been incorporated into standard minifigure sets

The only pieces I see not having any longevity once the Mario license expires is the Mushroom cap piece and the Shell piece.

Greetings LG?

Today as I went through some of my BL2 stuff and made some additional cargo for my Aerial Intruder I came across this guy.
This is my first minifigure, I got him when I was around 4 years old from a neighbor who lived across the street.
At the time I had no idea who or what he was. I didn't know what LEGO was at that time and didn't own any other sets or figures.
Needless to say I was blown away, he was so articulated (compared to other toys of the same size I had at the time) and the visor on the helmet could be brought up and down (which of course meant this guy was a spaceman and went exploring on the Moon).
Helmet wouldn't stay on after a couple of years of heavy play so my dad glued it on (did a bit of a poor job on that one, it's a bit offset).I called him Professor because he seemed to be a sort of astronaut/scientist.

As I grew up and got more sets he saw less and less heavy play, he wasn't in a great condition and I was afraid of damaging him further.I never changed him or replaced any of his parts. He always held a special place but other figures came and took center stage.
His legs are pretty loose, he can still stand but takes a bit of time to balance him right and you can see he's taken quite a beating over the years but here he is, still with me to this day.

I'm curious - do you guys still have your first figure? Or do you remember what it was?

I love this design. It looks like space pod/hovercar kind of thing. What piece is used for this massive panoramic roof? I wish sides were covered too but I don't mind it.

yeah, I think the 90's / early 2000s was the peak. And this isn't nostalgia, the problem with making lego minifigures too detailed or realistic is that the lego minifigure already has such wack and cartoony proportions that going to realistic just starts to look odd.

I don't know for sure who my first minifigure was, but based on wear, it was one of these guys. I had a little army of them because I loved knights and castles and stuff, and most of my figures are in pretty good condition, except for one of the pic related foot soldiers has the lion emblem on his chest worn off and it's just a blue triangle on the red torso, so I'm betting he's close to if not one of the first lego figures I ever had. (I have a nurse figure who's equally worn, so I dunno.)

Like you, I was blown away by the visor on the helmets actually moving up and down, and my favourite minifigs from the era would have been the knight with armour and helmet, and also the captain hook figure thanks to his unique hook hand and peg leg, which was a novelty in my growing collection.

Love the wear and tear on your figure there, he certainly looks well loved. Do you keep him loose as a desk buddy or do you put him up in a display somewhere normally?

Born in 1995, rock raiders was my first theme. Adventurers too, orient expedition was an early peak for me. Grew up with the early games so physical LEGO island sets were a big deal, then there was alpha team, then I got into exo force. The basketball sets were okay. The players were all standard minifigures from the top up, and the spring loaded legs were visually indistinguishable from regular legs without peeking into their holes. Don't bring them into this.

The thing I regret is missing the early 90s and mid-late 80s sets. My older cousins had a lot of the cool knights/wizard/dragon sets and rich cousin had the expensive as fuck monorail. He never let us play with it, so I grew up wanting it more by property of denial. Fuck the prices it demands now though.

And of course perfect size to sell boatloads regardless of how cool the set is. This is about the biggest set I could get expect to get. The $20-30 range is LEGO's bread and butter for the average consumer. Maybe those family and kids will have some of the big sets too, but they're going to buy these much more often. People much prefer minfig scale to any other and larger vehicles require weird compromises to hit a lower pricetag.

Maybe I just never really loved the design with the weird missing link TIE fighter transition cockpit and the thin flimsy wings. These sets have always been IMO more a cheap way for kids or whoever to a Jedi and droid pair without buying a larger set.

I would think you could do better today if you used a different design for the front. Maybe incorporate a little more excitement to the build of the front? As is it's just a long flat piece.

I can't really say for sure though, this gets it done, and of course as a 90s set that I once had, it gives me a lot of nostalgia, so I am definitely biased either way.

sortfag from the other thread here, I'm not sure if this guy >>8217864 ever got his answer, but I am weighing in: I found my old NBA Championship Basketball set (the full court but not the one with the real-life players). Portions of it were still put together with the original parts. I checked the 1x6 that made up the base of the defender's rig (the thing on the back of the hoop that you can use to lift a defender up and block shots), and those 1x6 were all hollow tube. That set was from 2003 (and I bought it that year as well), so I reason that by 2003, they were already using 1x6 hollow tube. I know that isn't as definitive as an NOS unboxing, but hopefully that gives some scope of where you should be looking.

I remember kid me being really frustated with the Torso parts although there might be some good use for them? The feet(shoe?) things that they have are the absolute worst. Aand the next piece on the Monkey Mech cracked on its own and yet again one of those 1x2 arches- those sets are out for what, barely a month, and are already disintegrating.

Just for shits and giggles I dug out a bunch of the same pieces out of storage, same color and everything, but from the 90s, including some that were on the old Aquanauts submarine that was kept assembled for god knows how long and surprise, surprise: they are all still perfectly intact.

Theme and sets kinda suck but more LEGO in the second hand market is a good thing, plus a willingness to explore other Nintendo stuff and outside IPs is not a bad thing. Yeah Disney and DC are fine but other brands would be cool. I liked the overwatch sets and wasn't alone, even if it was a little late and a misstep overall. If they adjust production volume accordingly they could afford to do more niche properties - I mean, IDEAS continues to be successful thing and that licenses everything under the sun, all the time.

If you've seen the mario body without the pants piece, there are connector pins between the body and the pants. The pants contain some kind of way to indicate what abilities should be enabled, probably just by closing certain circuits. It only has to be as simple as creating a binary number, with each number mapped to a different ability. alternatively the pants might contain a small amount of data of their own which the body then accesses to know what behaviours to listen for, sprites and sounds etc. That would allow them to create additional outfits that haven't yet been designed as of when the mario device is released to the public and can't be updated

fuckin hell, been pricing out parts for pharoah's forbidden fuckfest and it's looking to hit 100USD once shipping comes in. Four unique printed walls, unique rock walls, unique fucking alligators, uncommon parts all over the fucking place, six fucking birds, this trapdoor shit, and to top it all off, nobody has all of it as one-offs. When you see that someone has made a new general too early, you choose to impotently post about how upset you are, rather than reporting the new thread.
