Same thing as Lego - the extreme stylization means that they can keep a layer of detached irony between them and the character portrayed, while the specificity of a statue or an action figure comes off as more earnest and therefor less cool and more nerdy.

He doesn't buy regular pops and only buys chases he likes, apparently he also refuses to buy them online. So I guess it's just something he does when he's out shopping with his wife.

They still suck ass though, and I hate everyone who buys them for
causing my company to make me deal with stocking the bastards. I get pulled up on POP shit every head office visit because the merchandising gets destroyed every day.

Oof man it just hits me close to home. I had several arguments with my wife not about Funko Pops but over Lego sets. She told me I wasn't a kid anymore and that I had a hoarding psychological problem. That I better spend this money to hangout with her and spoil her with some gifts.
She told me at some point it that if in the future we're going to split it's going to be because of my hobby.
