Isn't that the original black series Stormy mold? It's still my favorite, I feel like everything that came after either had weird body proportions or the helmet "expressions" looked wrong. It's not a wonderful figure or anything, the articulation really leaves something to be desired, but it's the most right-looking Stormtrooper sculpt I've seen yet in 1/12.

No, they're just objectively shitty movies for the most part. Almost nobody comes off well in them, and those that do even slightly are riding the echoes of nostalgia. Being a minority has nothing to do with it really, white characters in those same roles would have sold equally as shittily because they're boring cookiecutter characters with nothing of substance to say, and they're all dressed in burlap sacks in varying tones of grey and tan. Nobody wants that shit, no matter what race you are.

That's fine. You can still design interesting things within that rule, and you are still allowed to break outside of that and use some more lively colors once in a while. They made some of the ugliest and most boring characters I've ever seen.

I talked about this in previous threads regarding Solo--I thought that movie was generally awesome in terms of character designs. They were memorable and cool looking, especially the background aliens. That's a large part of why I enjoyed it so much more than the "main" movies--it felt fun and was visually exciting.

Some of the disney wars character designs aren't bad. Luke at the end of Force Awakens immediately gets your attention with his faded, wizened look.

What I don't get is how Kylo Ren started off looking kinda cool and Nazgul-y but then every subsequent costume change was a direct step down until by the end of the trilogy he's just running around in a fucking long sleeve t shirt.

I get that his dressed-down look at the end was probably supposed to humanize him or whatever, get him out of those imposing black robes and mask and cape and shit. But it was pretty comedic, it looked like some lazy outfit I'd throw on to go get the mail or pick up some milk.

This might be going a little too far, but can I say a lot of the original trilogy outfits felt sort of...stylish to me? Like the materials, the cuts, the proportions, the silhouettes, they all looked great. Even the amount of weathering on the clothes looked fantastic, not too little, not too much. I feel like none of the good guys in the new movies really look slick anymore. They all look sort of schlubby and messy in a bad way. OT was like broke-ass filthy rebels, but make it fashion. NT is...just broke-ass and filthy.

I'm probably coming off too harsh here though. Even though this is how I feel on an analytical level, I had a great time in TFA and at least an ok time in the next two.

I've been playing a lot of Battlefront lately and, thanks to that, getting a good up-close look at a lot of assets and aesthetics based on the various eras of production, and I actually think I know what you mean. The First Order has this extremely polished high gloss look that's clearly descended from the Prequel Trilogy's very clean-and-pristine CGI assets, which I think is a good evolution of the "bad guys in star wars" concept, but the Resistance just look like... oh my god I just got it. They look like toys from the 1980s that were left out in the sun, like you'd pick up at a yard sale or a thrift store.

Yes! That's a very good way to describe them.

I was into clothes from a relatively young age, and was actually fascinated for a long time by little details like Luke's moccasin boots in ESB, the cool seam around the toes and the way the wraps around the calves gave them this striking look. Also the way his bloused pants stack and crease stiffly around the tops of his boots. It's little shit like this, it all adds up to a really cool silhouette. In the end, it's a pretty basic outfit, but the little details really make it for me.

It's part and parcel of the shallow approach JJ took to production, frankly, he's so afraid of how overproduced and theatrical the prequels looked (for example, the way that the Jedi robes in the OT looked like a crazy old wizard's hermit robes and the Jedi robes in the PT look like immaculately fitted costumes or uniforms) that he shies away from that in the sequels. And then Johnson comes in with very distinct aesthetic goals that draw on retro sci fi in a totally different way than the OT or the PT did, which in my opinion makes his film the first time Disney Wars actually advanced in aesthetic rather than just aping the original, but it also means people who didn't like JJ Wars for being so slavish to 80s nostalgia and people who didn't like the PT for looking glossy and fantastical are gonna dislike Johnson's look for being glam and deco.

I'm sorry, ever since Rise of Skywalker came out I've just been consumed with negative feelings towards Abram's work on the sequel trilogy. Why does the villainous iPod that is the First Order work with a buncha skater boys like the Knights of Ren? And why do they have a monkey working for them? Is it a reference to the Empire Strikes Back? Because that didn't fuckin' go over well with audiences that time either.

Not the anon you've been talking with but I completely agree and I think the biggest reflection in this is kylo's costume he went from mysterious vader bootleg in TFA to a genuine fighting force in the series in TLJ only to be thrown back into JJ's ham hands where he took what they did for him in TLJ and slapped that helmet back on making in my opinion the worst kylo look.

A Jango repack with photoreal was inevitable, so this is an easy way to get it out there while giving the Gaming Greats line another figure to fulfill whatever contract they have with Gamestop.

I won't pretend like it's a good idea or that it was executed well in all aspects but the stormtrooper and sith trooper look like EU variants of Stormies and Clones and I can appreciate that they have weapons that are clearly descended from the E-11
Flametrooper, snowtrooper, and jet trooper with the slit helmet (why not just give them the eyes to be consistent with the regular rank and file?) don't look great though and the officer's hats are gay with the popped collar

I can’t speak internationally but in the US more and more Online stores are getting cheaper than online. Almost every black series I preorder on Amazon has gone under retail while I waited for it to ship. I’m not saying either system is perfect but I feel like if you goal is to make sure you have it at a good cost you might as well just have the online order there, more so when most major online stores have free return policy

I have heard stories like yours of "my 2, 3, 4 Walgreens in my area have nothing for years now" and it always makes me nervous because it's the only one in my area by 100 miles. I really hate toy hunting in stores. There is about a 5% chance they'll have what I am looking for in stock anyway. Most are getting rid of it, last fall they decline a lot of Hasbro's plans and layouts agreeing only to a small station for the Episode 9 disc release but that was it with Hasbro. Most stores do that, even Walmart has started this. Short answer is if the inventory doesn't move fast enough the cost to keep it around even even get rid hits a point you are just better off to keep it forever. Walmart use to be really scummy and they take it back the the warehouse for a few months to just bring it back so it gave the illusion the clearance items sold out and it's new stock.

They didn't. Very few of them had identical outfits. Personally I think the issue isn't as bad with Plo since he keeps his cloak on at all times in the movies so it doesn't really matter how he looks under them, but Kit Fisto just re-uses the AOTC body so his collar and boots are wrong and he's also the wrong height.

I don't think Plo took his over-robe off in any of the movies so I assume his regular robes are the same style as the rest of the Jedi. The only thing I worry about is the color, the pictures that one anon is posting make it seem too beige but the quality isn't good and lighting keeps changing. The promo shots all make the figure look pretty close though so I'll wait til I get mine in hand.
For some reason every toy and non-movie depiction of Plo gives him red-brown to burgundy robes which isn't really accurate to the movies.

Plo's jedi attire is markedly different than your standard affair. He's shown in several illustrations and a ton in the clone wars cartoon to have a unique tunic design. He actually keeps it after Anakin and Obi-Wan switch into their ROTS attire so that's probably what it looks like under the overrobe in the canonical sense, even if we can't see it in the movie. It's just disappointing that we didn't get the figure either in that tunic or with a non removable robe, considering that we don't ever see what's underneath.

Hasbro claimed that the faceprint wave wasn't even meant for retail, that it was supposed to available only online. Jeditemplearchives alleges that Hasbro isn't letting retailers order more than a certain amount of cases per wave to prevent Walmart and Target from ordering heaving like they did on wave 1 and then never restocking, because they never sold out of the hundred or so cases they have in the back of their stores.

We are at a point now where most stores can’t afford to do a deep cost discount to say an Ollie’s or TJ Maxx anymore, they are better off just keeping the stock and trying to move it themselves. It doesn’t help that most stores are taking the mindset that once they sell out of Star Wars they are removing the shelf space for it.

Not him, but it’s understandable. Outside of the EU Wedge is a minor character aside from making the shot that takes out the second Death Star. Biggs got shafted even more on importance since we only see him in the original version of ANH in the Death Star fight only to get killed, plus Luke only mentions him in the early part of the movie talking to his aunt and uncle.

It's not always the case and sadly there have been cases where that did happen but they were very haphazard. Juggernaut Wave Rouge shelf warmed hard and got down to $5 at a lot of Targets, didn't sell and climbed back up to $20, Jim Lee styled figures were announced and they sold at that $20 price with ease. Another weird example is the Seeker three pack from last year, some stores it didn't move at $25, they bumped it back up and then they sold out shortly after. I want to make it clear there is no reasoning to bump it back up, it's just the curse of it work a few times so in their mind they should try every time.

At the rate sections are shrinking? Not really. Hell some Targets those Moloch are what keep the SW section alive, many have completely done away with the section and plan only to stock when events occur on end caps and what not.

for articulation and look, along with value and quality, i think black series beats all of them. they nailed the helmet (both the ANH one and the new empire one coming out), the articulation is great for someone who doesn't do a lot of dynamic poses. they're both basically the same figure with some retooling, but that base figure is fantastic for $20 (really about $40 nowadays i think but the ESB one is still up for order)

i assume you mean 6 inch but if you mean 3.75, probably the TVC one that's pretty basic or the old 3.75 black series one based off ROTS, very hard to find and it sucks if it isn't the second edition. if it's the second edition, it's golden

Model kit is also really good if you get a cloth cape from somewhere else and have decent painting skills for details.

There's just so damn many different options, I really couldn't decide myself and just settled on that one.

For 3 3/4 scale, I'm happy with the Evolutions box set Vader, anniversary Tin pack in Vader, and Force Unleashed Battle Damage Vader.

I did get one of the later TVC/eariler TBS 3 3/4 Vaders, but despite having a ball jointed head, and double jointed hips, he's not as possible as th earlier Vaders due to the scuplt not allowing 90 degree bend in the knees and elbows, and how the head keeps falling off due to the cape being attacked around the neck peg.

You may also want to just supplement either with some of the upcoming BS Mandalorian Stormtroopers since they look to be improved and easily affordable to get multiples. Plus having slightly different ones looks pretty authentic to the films

My buddy bought the Vader this past force friday and he asked me to take it out of the box cause he was messing with some other thing he got. It looks pretty great but it's the most disgusting figure i've ever held.

His whole suit is just really soft insulated rubber. It feels like a baby that really needs some baby powder and within like 5 minutes, it attracted all of the pet hair that floated from across the room. I imagine Luke is going to be exactly the same. Nice to look at though?

The idea of a "bad batch" could actually be pretty cool if they were clones that ended up with minor genetic defects that got sent on suicide missions or something. Like a group of clones that all had cleft palates get sent to infiltrate and destroy enemy ships from the inside, not expected to survive.

SHF really nailed the OT trilogy Stormtroopers look (Rogue One and A New Hope versions). It took them awhile to get it right.. but they did, it paid off for sure. I was lucky enough to get into the line right when Rogue One came out.
