When taking apart completely built sets do you guys try to take them apart in reverse order and separate them into the same bag #s as they originally came in? I am getting ready to move in with my girlfriend and I have to take apart so much stuff. Interestingly its kind of satisfying, not as much as building, but I am still working with Lego so that's good.

Because Lego had a plastic/pigment mixing problem for reddish brown, dark brown, and dark red manufactured between about 2017 and late 2018
They fixed it though
Avoid sets from 2017-18 with those colours and you'll be fine

Are you guys retarded? The existence of mexicans/indias etc is not in itself seen as racist, even by the most insane woke people. mariachi guys exist in the world, they are not a caricature. The time when its considered "politically incorrect" is when for example white college kids dress up as them, since it is seen as mocking another race and is treated like a lite version of blackface. The stereotypical concept of "cowboys vs indians" is considered "politically incorrect" because you are painting the indians as savages, vilifying their race and glorifying their historical genocide.

Lego can make indians (native americans) or mexicans or chinese or whatever as long as they dont frame them in a way that could be seen as "problematic" or something. Every single big company that exists today is dialed into pc culture, that's just the way it works now.

Ultimately Lego is a pretty open medium so you can take the cmf indians and make them get raped by the cmf conquistadors if you want but lego is never gonna sell that as a set.

Certain themes now draw the line better than others with specialized pieces. Monkee and Hidden sides do pretty well with using older pieces creatively.

Mid 90's lego was the absolute worst. All those cars use the exact same wheel frame part and all the buildings used the same walls and made for extremely lazy building. It's like they were trying to market a bunch of 4+ sets to their general audience

I agree. Licensing has really jacked up the cost across the board on ALL sets. Some of their earliest literature states that LEGO is about imagination and what you can build from your ideas. I loved the stories from back then. I understand why LEGO has done what it has done though to stay current with what everyone else is doing though. It's just a shame that I see so many people buy a set, put it together that one time like a model and never do anything with it ever again. Kids today don't realize these bricks are for more than 1 use. Build and build something different.

Thanks! Straight from the camera, it was a test to see how the camera would work under natural light, which seems to do really well. I'd suggest getting some kind of lamp, with brightness settings if you can. For stop motion, you don't have to worry as much but if you want better clarity, lighting the space you're shooting certainly will help!

I do miss the old blocky aesthetic, but I think there are a lot of great things to come out of modern Lego. I think they need to play to both sides a bit and try to use more bricks if they can, and balance the amount of specialized bits. breaking news (literally):
At the start of this month I did a little experiment and sanded down the insides of some clips until they moved a more smoothly and left them attached to some bars.
Now, about three weeks later a bunch of them somehow are back at being almost as tight as before so over time the pieces must've shrunk a tiny bit which would actually explain why they are so prone to cracking on their own these days.

I can agree with the mindset of "dude fuck licensed themes" for the most part (For example Star Wars only started being a problem during The Clone Wars sets when they started rehashing stuff from only a few years prior) but this is just a retarded mindset. I liked Nexo Knights and I know TLG considers it a Castle theme, but you and I both know that it's not what people think when they think of "Castle Lego". It's like calling Exo-Force a space theme because they're both sci-fi. The City/Space/Castle trifecta is peak lego ad should be maintained at all times, with an original line for the latter two each year.

It just doesnt sell anymore. The 2009 theme didnt sell, the POTC sets (Outside of the Black Pearl) didn't sell, and the 2015 theme didn't sell. Yes it sold when there were only 4 main lego themes, but there's so many other options these days. Leave it alone outside of the occasional set like Barracuda Bay
>Adventurers
You could kinda say that this role's evolved into themes like Ninjago or Hidden Side where all the sets have a sort of narrative going on between them. Adventurers is for the most part an evolutionary step from the classic themes to the ones we have now.

Honestly a peak Lego catalog would be something like this

>Ninjago
>Friends
>1-2 new original themes
>Technic
>Creator/Architecture/18+ stuff
>2 evergreen Licensed themes (Star Wars and DC/Marvel Superheroes)

I think you're on the right track. I think there's room for a little more nuance, Lego licenses aren't the devil, but they lack the creativity others have. I do think limiting them will help improve the sets (less need to rush sets out to fit some property). But I think castle and space shouldn't be constant themes. I think they should cycle with each other and maybe another theme to avoid being stale. I do get your reasoning though and maybe I'm wrong, I just don't want them to overstay their welcome like I fear they might.
One other small nitpick, and this is more personal, but Technic needs to be overhauled and split into two types. One side for the detailed scale myself, one for crazy function sets. Give people a nice mix of cool design and slick engineering.

I'm guessing Hidden Side didn't see a lot of success with its AR system and that this was a test for that specifically. Obviously if it was selling gangbusters they wouldn't end it. This issue is some weird thing about not wanting to re-hash old stuff.
Castle/town(city)/space should be the main three with more advertising, and a rotating yearly theme labeled adventure used as a catchall term for a pirate line one year, an expedition line another, extreme sports another, etc etc you get the idea.
Another fucking massive issue lego faces is the lack of structure in each theme, and how random one off sets pop up from old themes, or how themes just fucking exist for all of 5 sets, then disappear forever, but are under some obtuse name that require you to dig for them.
fucking MASTER BUILDER ACADEMY is a great example of this.
It SHOULD have been "Creator's: Master Builder Academy", but instead it just fucking some random 10 set thing that lived and died in obscurity.

No. I'm assuming they'll just send me a couple of random CMFs from the current wave if they can't replace the pieces themselves, but at least it's on their radar now. Hopefully more people complain about them being printed upside-down and they'll reissue the piece at some point.

Most people will tell you the first is the best. They aren't "wrong". If you're actually into Lego then you'll enjoy them all plenty. I like kung-fu movies so ninjago movie checks boxes for me. Batman is good and maybe the most interesting to look at. Lots of people get gay romance vibes from it, so maybe that is what you want. The Lego Movie 2 is also good, but you really should watch them in order. LM2 has the most "deep" plot if you want one to watch 100 times.

I feel like they have to know original IPs do sell. Ninjago was successful enough for lego to make a full feature movie... that bombed. I like hidden side a lot but I agree with your view on it. I think if they ditched the emphasis on phones in the set and the AR stuff for more interesting main characters, it would have sold better. Plus the box art was confusing. It was too animated and you couldn't tell it was lego half the time. And the covers featured large ghosts that didn't exist in the set itself.

If you want some of the unique pieces from Barracuda bay, like the tattooed torsos and heads, bricks and pieces is a good option. They don't charge extra for "rare" pieces like those.

Never buy duplo new. You can get huge quantities at thrift stores and garage sales for cheap prices, but it's not worth buying them in the store. I buy my bulk duplo from a thrift store and get the rare/printed pieces from cracklink.

Here's a nice printed piece that I use for a gas station sign. Duplo pieces are made with very durable printing, never stickers, so they can stand up to the abuse of toddlers.

Does Lego have a policy that forbids them from actually including the proper number of figures for any given set?
It's most prevalent in Star Shit when troop carriers or even normal vehicles come with like half the amount of figures that you need to actually fill it up. This new AT-AT costs like $160 USD and only comes with 2 normal troops. Why? Why not give 4?
The new 501st set has 6 figures for 2 one-man vehicles. This AT-AT is supposed to carry a total of 9 Imperials, but only includes 5.

So with a little tinkering and some messing around I managed to convert 60225 into a vehicle for my new SeaTron faction.
I just need to find a new set of wheels that are appropriately sized but black and not some form of dark pearl gray.

I do feel like Lego has been stingy with figures even on the pricier sets such as the Creator pirate ship. For a $90 set it should have come with four pirates minimum.

Star Shit tends to be on the extreme end of the scale because of mouse tax plus the fact that Lego likes to count battle droids taking up a minifig slot even though they are much cheaper, fragile and less playable than a real minifigure. The 2013 AT-TE and 2016 Turbo tank had one clone and two troops respectively to operate the entire vehicle which is pathetic compared to the 2002 and 2005 versions that came with four each and a jedi to boot.

If Lego were to release a castle set today it would cost $120, be smaller than the old castle sets, and come with a single knight, a king, a peasant, and two identical bad guys.

I think the simpler print designs up until roughly the mid 90s are more appropriate for the simple geometric shapes of Lego minifigures. Modern designs (not all of them) tend to be overly detailed.
Also the hips on the old lady figure are more believable because there's continuity between front and side of the torso, while in the new figure there's a black shape printed to represent empty space which doesn't really work because the side of the torso is a different color.

Is popping minifigure arms off bad for their tightness? I always raise them fully when removing them, but I've noticed that on some torsos certain arms hold well and on other torsos arms are loose as shit, though they largely keep their grip if returned to their original torso. I'm mixing older and newer parts, is it just a plastic thing?

It sounds like it may be what you're doing.
The best way is apparently to put them as far back as they will go when the head is attached then pull it off from there. Has something to do with that little notch that's on the part that goes in the socket.

I swap out minifig arms all the time and I never have a problem with it. As long as you're doing it quickly and at a 90 degree angle (instead of trying to "ease" the arm out of socket, it should be fine. Sometimes arms and sockets have slightly different sizes due to tolerance variations, which is why you sometimes swap out an arm and the new one is loose. Same thing happens with legs and hips.

Yeah, I'm doing both, I always work a minifigure's arm to the highest position possible with the head on whenever I can. I was mainly concerned because some arms just seem looser on some torsos than others, but somewhat reassuringly, they retain most friction on their original torsos or other ones, etc.
