Now we're stuck with either the shitty Playmates stuff or importing the outrageously expensive JDM figures, which are often just as hit-or-miss as NECA when it comes to paint. I can say that if I was a kid, I would not be impressed with the Playmates Godzilla toys vs the toys for other franchises like Jurassic Park, Transformers, or even Star Wars that are available right now. Yes, parents will be more likely to purchase cheap toys, but kids are smart enough to tell the difference between a high-quality toy and a poverty-tier toy like Playmates. Kids are the key for the longevity of any media franchise, and toys are a major component of capturing that audience. No kid is going to want to sit through some Japanese monster movie from 60 years ago when Marvel and Fortnite exist. Toys help kids get emotionally invested in an IP. Sometimes I feel like most adults have so mentally removed themselves from childhood that they don't understand how kids feel.
