I quickly stopped because I reached a point where the characters I had earned up to that point weren't enough to beat the next mission, and the system of needing to collect X character tiles before unlocking a character means it takes way too much time and effort to unlock anyone new. the value proposition just isn't there, it's not worth playing for me

yes, and my brothers and even the very old warped and yellowed parts my mother got from her grandparents in the 60s
when you see some of the white walls of my builds and see some 2 by X bricks that are yellowed as all fuck, it's probably one of them.
Basically all my classic smileyfaces and pirate era beards were from sets in my childhood bin and I used those for a lot of characters. It does give them some extra value if you're sentimental like that.
Digging up your old stuff will be a really fun experience anon, be sure to report back in what you find.

the hip connection uses those 1x1 round plates with bar connection. Not the greatest look, but they give some good range of motion. And when I get some in brown they won't stand out as much

There really aren't any outright bad choices here, as even the most recent runs of Castle were quite good. I'm a vintagefag so you can probably guess what I like, however if you aren't feeling vintage (which few people ITT are), I recommend pic related. It is my favorite Castle build post 2000. The whole 2007ish era fantasy era line is exceptional. The dwarves were great, the orcs were great, the evil wizard skull tower was great.

I feel like there was a real timely opportunity to do that in the midst of the Game of Thrones craze. But if I'm not mistaken, that was when lego was running Nexo Knight. I imagine Lego is kicking themselves for that. I'm guessing when the Lord of the Rings amazon /tv/ series airs we will get some licenceshit. I'm filled with doubt that we will get a good original fantasy theme for some time. But maybe its been enough time and that license is forfeit. Who knows?

Yeah. I haven't looked into the many unofficial rules that exist but lego could make a killing off of !dnd lego branded tabletop rulebook. Of course we can just play dnd/gurps/shadowrun/whatever with lego and it works perfectly but its something TLG could make easy money on. I'd buy it. That is something all tabletop games are lacking. Don't think so. Monkie Kid seems more like LEGO's attempt to get their foot in the door with the Chinese market. It doesn't seem like they care all that much if the rest of the world buys it, or else they would have released the sets to retailers at comparable prices to their other sets, rather than sell them exclusively in their own stores with jacked-up prices.

If there is going to be another original theme to fill in the void left by Hidden Side, it could very well be anything. Or nothing at all. LEGO just might say "Original themes don't sell anymore! Cancel em!"

Did the "You won't believe it's Nexo Knights!" space knight. Used brick build horses from early Castle as inspiration and I love them! The shape was captured perfectly back at the time.

What is the grossest thing you have experienced when acquiring used Lego /lg/? As for the subjectmatter, focusing explicitly on racial issues would be a fucking minefield, just let different people from different groups be part of the movie like every 90s cartoon ever.

Absolute quality stuff. Make a tower next!

I just finished building this set today. It was a fun experience.
The set looks really good but I'm a bit disappointed with the limited range of motion. I suppose they sacrificed knees/elbows for a more kid-friendly set that's easy to pose and very durable during play.
I plan to upgrade its mobility in the future and also create a full-black version for my Blacktron 3 faction.
Until then I'm just happy with having this and making a pilot for it. I feel he fits, but if you guys have any suggestions I'm more than happy to hear them.

context like a famous movie ip can fudge things even more (red skull, indiana jones nazis), what did the vehicle represent? what was the message of the movie?

jamming off of ww2 style designs to make something more fantastical often makes things ok
but once you make a model with an exact serial number of a real life vehicle the 'fantasy' distance is crossed somewhat

I don't feel the model is that bad, if they didn't mention the exact real life plane (wich from what i gather from wikipedia is predominantly a military carrier in class) it could've been anything.
If they added something like an exploration boat or something that would've been cool and seperated it even more from the military. But that is just hindsight speculation.

Lego makes many double-rotor helis with boats so I'm not particularly miffed, but i don't have a special connection with this heli for that to matter.

Years ago I had a dream where TLG released a castle series with a winter theme so probably that.

It was pretty similar to the ice fortress from last year's Ninjago sets except there were less ice zombies and more soldiers in scarves and comfy looking fur coat torso prints.

Make it a mix of classic and castle era. Similar as Nexoknights, center it around a wizard vs a witch. A knights of the roundtable vs warlords of the roundtable. Something like "The 10 Kingdoms" with a Games of Thrones setting.
Wizard has King Arthur and knights from the Lion, Crow, Dragon, Falcon, Deer kingdom under him.
The witch has Vladek and warlords from the bat, Scorpion, Bull, Wolf clan under her.
Sets consist of
one castle with enemy vehicle or tower, modular build to create two different castles, main is lion but you can take the enemy vehicle/tower and exchange emblems to switch the faction, like buy the set 2 times to get lion and enemy castle!
two sets with modular wall
one set with a small stronghold
three small sets with castle vehicles

I would do a warcraft lite theme. Bring back the trolls and dwarfs, as well as the classic blue lions and red dragon factions, have the blue lions work with the dwarfs while the trolls and red dragons kinda work together, but not really. Have a big castle doll house style set for each of the factions. The blue lion and dwarf castles can lock together back to back to make a full castle, and the troll and black dragon castles do the same, while giving each castle a distinct style. Blue lion castle would have the classic blue and grey castle style, the dwarf castle would be chunky with lots of gold and silver highlights, the center of it shaped like an anvile with lava fountains, the red dragon castle would be the classic black and red fortress of stone and fire, and the troll castle would be a wood and bolder hodge podge, reminiscent of the wild west fort sets with a big tent thing in the middle.

This guy was from some used stuff I ended up with. Not really gross, but he was probably less than sanitary. A different time I bought a Toy Story set at Good Will that was pretty dirty and had a transformer in it. blacktron are like a weird space renagade faction, militaristic tendency to consume other factions to strengthen their own. yet not crazy enough to full on attack other factions. Not necessarily communist, but strict egalitarian/non individualistic society but with elusive generals and leaders. Almost cult-like mentality.

Too tired to post a lot of the rest, i just realized it mostly turns into headcanon happenings of my city for the rest wich would just be confusing.

reminder that lego is, has been, and will always be primarily a toy for kids. Nexo knights was their attempt to get GoT/D&D/LotR/generic fantasy/castle to click with today's youth.

They could bring back castle tomorrow for AFOLs and it would be less profitable than say monkie kid or hidden side.

I wish there would be some sort of castle adjacent theme, medieval city, table top fantasy or otherwise, but right now I feel like the LotR tv show is our best hope. I won't complain about Harry Potter castles and ninjago orcs and dragons.

not really, it's only primary for the Asian continent. They have a factory each in NA, EU and Asia and they all make a lot of the same stuff so they don't have to ship so much and then each factory also has some stuff that they make exclusively (like China does the cmfs for example)

Has lego always tried to create official lore/storylines to original themes, with other media connecting to it? Could be a reason why they're slow on original themes and quick to drop them when said shows don't catch on as well as they had hoped to.

Easier to grab a license from an established franchise and focus purely on making sets than it is to create a new theme and try to build an engaging series/comic from the ground up that will captivate kids. Original themes with storylines that do catch on get longer runs+more sets like Bonkle and Ninjago. Both were popular enough to get their own movies and have a ton of outside media like games, books, comics, and whatnot.

Well, its hard to say. If you want to go hard on the lore juice, yes. They had story books with Fabuland that described the single scene in the set (I think). Also yes if you count a castle theme or pirate sets having good guy and bad guys. Johnny Thunder had a progression though the sets. Knights Kingdom 1 and 2 had a lore for each battle. Exoforce even had reasons to combine the sets because lore. I guess if you want to look at those with rose colored glasses, they could be play inspiration or suggestions. I guess the only real difference is how easy it is to find the lore of newer themes.

The ghost theme wasn't even terribly intrusive. You could "fix" the sets easily. It was pretty creative, even if it wasn't personally my cup of tea.

My understanding was that Nexo Knights wasn't very successful financially. And that it was a failed attempt. I'm not sure what you are getting at. But I was not suggesting that lego should have made game of thrones sets or tried to be overly mature about it. The fantasy crazed culture around something large like game of thrones "bleeds" through into the youth from the parents and just word of mouth. Even if most market target children were not watching game of thrones, kids today really like straight up fantasy and knights and castles. The dnd craze was a huge hit with youth. Many children played dnd. But dnd fad died with covid and game of thrones ended on a sour note. What I am suggesting here was that there was a very real window for classic castle or fantasy castle to return and be a financially successful hit with the youth, but TLG was dealt a bad hand in that there was a massive fantasy culture craze right as they were putting their resources into sci fi castle. Its bad luck. I think they are kicking themselves for going that route at that time.

Thanks to the power of the internet, anyone can trace any part's lifespawn. Time cruisers are using common pieces that were before and after 1996. Uncommon pieces appeared in a few sets, but all have appearance past 1996 too. Even Ice planet helmets were produced up to 2000 where they appear in Racers sets.
Even more - there are pieces in a colors that unique only to this theme. Why would Lego produce more specialized pieces exclusively for the theme that is "made to get rid of specialized pieces"?

Time Twisters go even further. There are tons of parts that were introduced in 1997, when both this sets and Fright Knights were introduced.

So please quit this "haha leftovers theme" bullshit

I'm not 100% sure. I guess they would need some kind of advantage since they're the good guys, but I wouldn't want it to get too muddled by giving them technology or magic. The idea is that it's a clash of two themes rather than a merge; you could remove the space stuff and have a regular castle theme or vice versa. I guess how I'd do it would be to have the knights/peasants setting up various traps and outsmarting the aliens. Maybe one or two sets with knights in a hijacked ship, just not overdoing it too much.

In the case of Jabba's Palace, the set was already scheduled to be retired when some muslims started bitching about it, and after it retired on schedule they claimed that they were the reason it was "banned".

Your lens has a minimum possible range of focus. If the lens is physically too close, then it won't be able to focus on the subject. This is partially why macro lenses are better for close subjects, but they're a little too close for /toy/ scales.

If you want the entire picture to be in focus, you need to use a higher f-stop. It's a 1/f measurement of the iris opening. If it's open wide, f4, then it allows light from random directions in, which will muddle up everything outside of the plane of focus. f22 on the other hand will only have direct light hit the sensor, so it's more suitable for getting a larger 'range' in focus. But then you need more light and/or need to keep the shutter open longer.

You might want to see about getting a polarizing filter. My circular one lets me change what light is being reflected off blocks, but I still need to make an example of it when I have proper lighting, instead of just the glare of my monitor.
