The minicons were something special—not *just* smaller transforming bots, but smaller transforming bots with their own unique and creative vehicles and robot forms, often with a 3rd weaponizer or combiner weapon form, *and* with very similar design philosophy to the larger bots.
Actually, on that note—people complain about Armada being full of bricks, but several (not all, but several) of those limitations in articulation were a result of engineering in gimmicks for the design philosophy of the series—the minicons unlocking latent powers and capabilities in larger bots. I wish that concept was explored more in other lines—a minicon providing “schematics” for a larger bot to turn their kibble into a weapon they didn’t know they had is a perfect setup for “the power was inside you all along.”
Weird that so many Geewunners can’t see/appreciate that aspect when there was such a big “You got the touch, you got the power” passing of the matrix to Rodimus, and so many UT fags seem to get hung up on Armada as the “catch’em all like in my Japanese animes” series. I just want bots with complex character development arcs in their show, and “woah, holy fuck, I had a missile-launcher hidden inside me this whole time” gimmicks in the toys.
...And also functional knee joints.
