Hasbro continued to blame oil prices on the high price tags legends carried in the late 2000's into the early 2010's. Despite that, they're now more expensive than they've ever been, pushing into the 25 dollar range.
Other companies use the age range as a justification for price hikes, which atleast carries more validity to it compared to oil prices. Honestly it's all a mess of smoke, mirrors, jewery, and vague economics.
