I tried shipping two items yesterday from Sahra and got hit with a little over 10k yen in shipping. Deleted one item from cart, shipping went down to 6k. Said fuck that and quit.

DHL is volume based. I buy game OSTs all the time from manda and the smallest box always cost about 10 bucks. I can see small boxes like figuarts going for not much more. The plush is most likely absolutely fucking you.

Hmm, really? Sahra is what I've been using as a metric because it's the only one with a shipping estimate. And Mandarake has never really allowed you to cancel once you see the shipping cost, right? I don't want to get blindsided with some insane charge and be forced to pay or get banned.

Manda will cancel an order if you are a high volume buyer and are super super nice about it, and make up a believable excuse. I’ve had them cancel two orders for me, they are the main store I buy figures from though so I buy from them a lot.

The reason OP's estimate is astronomical is because one of the items is a blanket with dimensions listed as 42cm x 36cm. It probably doesn't account for folding or rolling it. The other two items probably would be shipped in a box like this. My last order was in this box, and shipping was 10800 despite being 13kg.

DHL shipping is a bitch right. They increased their prices temporarily because of the pandemic, and sadly, they're the only game in town right now for some countries.

Sucks because there's a few model kits I want to get, but I'm not willing to pay $50 shipping for a $15 Eurofighter Typhoon kit with Idolmaster decals.

Does surface mail work in US right now? Most stores don't offer this shipping option if you were to buy something directly from them but proxy services do, so maybe it would be much cheaper to have them middleman your packages to you if surface mail is not axed.

Try out Zenmarket, I found them pretty simple to order with and until this year I've never used any proxies before (though they take a while to process orders now due to the flood of customers). The surface shipping is cheaper than EMS for me but I'm in Europe, you can check their rates here:

I'm in NC and this is a little high for mandy.... but it's the sahara store and they are usually a little higher on the shipping. Idk what happened on your order but 200 dollars on shipping on 16 dollars of toys is not normal

See this order it's probably 1k more than it would be at another store.... but for me this was the only store with the di:stages and those fucking things for for pretty high elsewhere so I didnt mind this time

But if you can help it stay the fuck away from sahra. Check at the bottom of the page for other stores that sell the item.... it may actually be cheaper at another store anyways

My last purchase from Mandarake was ~$15 or $20 shipping for a few smaller paper items. I had to pay like $100 for AmiAmi DHL because I bought a few larger sized figures in a single box.

I don't know how you got this result. You have five items here, including a Figma, and your shipping is 4.5k, but when I tried to buy a single Figma from Sahra my shipping was like almost 6k just for that alone.

OP's situation is an anomaly. Look I bought 6 figures and shipping was only 4.5k and I'm in the US too. Sahra's the best because they actually tell you the final shipping cost before you order so you can min-max the size/weight for the best deal. If you order from the other stores you'll just get blindsided when it's time to pay. Even if they charge a little more than other stores at least you know your order won't be canceled because the items aren't in stock and they can ship it immediately since there's no back-and-forth with the payment request.

Clearly I like the idea of that, not knowing the shipping cost is terrible and fills you with apprehension. But I don't know how you guys are getting these low prices. I'm not OP, but I'm in the US too, and most 1/12 figures I've tried to buy start at 5-6k shipping for me. It's bewildering. Trying to add more figures practically doubles the shipping cost.

I just found a small item I wanted on Sahra. They listed a variety of shipping rates, starting from 1300 yen (more expensive than it should be, but not insane) to 3500 for DHL (insane). So it looks like normally in non-Covid times you can select cheaper, slower shipping methods on Sahra...but they still cost more than the other branches.

It must be affecting only DHL.Their EMS and SAL rates have always been within the normal range, I compared my last Sahra order's shipping charge with the estimates from Japan Post and it checks out, Sahra even undercharged me slightly. I've never seen any significant differences in shipping fees between the manda stores but I only ever use SAL and sometimes EMS.

Keep checking the Japan Post EMS page, that's where it would be announced.

It's unlikely it will open up until the commercial flight situation starts to return to normal though. And in the US, well, we're still deeply In It right now and nobody should be flying.
