Actually, the people who worked for Mirage were running out of steam. The deal was that anyone there was able to sell designs to Playmates for figures. I wonder how many figures were actually designed by Playmates' people.

These look like they turned out great but I can tell it uses the same plastic they use for all of their other lines, and I'm not a fan of it. If I were paying $20 for each it wouldn't be an issue but at $45 it's enough to drive me away from buying them.

Not him, but I got Wrap Trap as my first MOTUC from them and HATED the plastic he was made of. It's less soft and feels light and like it may crack more easily than Mattel's. But I also have their Ultimate He-Man and the movie figures and they don't have that issue so I'm not worried about the Turtles.

Sure you can. You just need to think about what messages you're sending. For instance, you can make your villain a Nazi allegory, but if you do so, you probably want to avoid sympathizing with them or making them seem relatable. That sends up red flags all over.

Stan is my personal hero, I would love that for him. But...I must admit, I wasn't the greatest fan of the original action figure, already being a fan of the comics at the time. It was so radically different. If they did this design, it would be awesome to get a swappable comic-accurate head.

So you didn't actually like the Toon designs? Because they're both very different intended audiences. Personally I have less attachment to the cartoon designs than I do the old Playmates toys and never went in on the Toon stuff, Neca or Figuarts.

You're nuts. The Neca figures look just like the cartoon. If anything I'm more inpressed with Neca. They are translating a 1D cartoon into figures. S7 is just updating already 3D designs. Both companies are doing a great job translating the designs. Neca though has a harder job.

This line is based off the playmates line, not the cartoon. The Leatherhead toy was radically different.
Also the bubble walker krang is what I was thinking, they already did him in the reaction line.
Maybe further down this line they will do the android body, like Neca is doing. I though I heard Pixel Dan asking Brian about doing a turtle van, sewer play set, or technodrome and him not saying No to the idea. If Super 7 is smart, they'll reissue the Turtles as a box set after the first four waves. If they don't, prices on the earlier Turtles will be sky-high and potentially deter newcomers trying to get into the line at that point.

Turtle Blimp II. Really impressive and relatively cheap to produce. This time around they could actually make that machinery on the sides 3-dimensional with lightweight vacuformed plastic.

This was the crowning jewel of my TMNT collection as a kid.

it seems like the characters are based on their "canon" cartoon heights although the sculpts are based on the original playmate toyline.

As such, I was just thinking out loud - some of the playmate toys were shrunk or sculpted a little weird to fit them into the one-size-fits-all standard cardback packaging. If Rocksteady being bigger is an indicator that Super7 isn't feeling those constraints, and as suggested by (pic related) Shredder being the same sculpt and paint style, but being re-imagined without a hunched back and with upright legs, then what do you think about Leatherhead?

If they're willing to change Shredder a bit, then perhaps the notoriously small and flat playmates toy of the character will be updated to be much bigger.

Or maybe not?

Do you think they'd try to recapture the original toy's flat, crocodile-like silhouette, or do you think they'd try to make a toy that can either hunch down or stand upright? Presumably he'd have elbow and knee joints, so all you'd really need is an extreme neck joint that allows him to look upright at a 90 degree angle.

Playmates Letherhead does not look like he can stand straight up like his cartoon counterpart. Hopefully they give his head enough up and down movement to make his hunched over pose look less awkward.

My guess is they'll make his default stance hunched over like in >>8347488
But give the head a good balljoint so it can look down, maybe an able crunch and also size the the figure up a lot.

One of my favorite things about the original was you could stand him (mostly) upright, or get him down on his belly for a more slithery look. I hope the Super 7 figure preserves this ability.

Yeah I feel like I really fucked up on that one myself. Raphael turned out way better than I thought he would. If I could grab them for retail I would, but I'm not paying aftermarket prices for Raph now...

There were rereleases of like He-man, Skeletor, battle cat and a few other of the big names once or twice in MOTUC. Otherwise it was 1 and done. But that was mattel, and they had the factories to do it. Super 7 never rereleased anything yet.
