No, but it should be. Sony pozzed it up, since they do with everything. They even tried to sell the movie to Netflix, because they knew they'd lose money. They did the same thing with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, they made shitty version and then sold it to Paramount when they realized they were gonna lose money, and then Paramount had to spend money to fix the terrible CGI.

I know Paramount bought the rights from Sony but the film wasn't made. I wish Mattel went with a deal with Warner Bros.
MotU won't get enough advertising from a streaming service like it would in theaters.

At this rate, are there going to BE theaters? AMC, the largest cinema chain in the US, teeters on the verge of bankruptcy. A lot of smaller chains are dubious going forward. And mom-and-pop/community/other small movie houses, already culled by the 2013 "go digital or go dark" mandate set forth by Hollywood, face a reckoning.

In my area, we lost 10 screens when Hollywood Hits closed. Another 4 when the downtown cinema went bust, and if AMC goes, there go 20 more screens. Then the only option will be Showcase, over 10 miles away.

Classics have always been 7", so if they want to stick roughly with their own line, and if this is a legacy series that may include figures on the Classics bodies one day, it makes sense to make them match.

As for 7", in terms of major figures at retail, it looks like it's McFarlane and Mattel vs Hasbro and Jazwares/WCT. Then there's Neca and DS for 7" as well. I think they can all coexist.

Absolutley. Both of these sentiments are 100% correct and thanks to orgfags and gatekeepers, the entirety of the franchise has remained on life support for decades.

Mattel and now Hasbro have really bent over backwards time and time again to keep their die hard core fanbase happy. But by doing so, they've prevented any growth or expansion of the property.

Honestly... I see it happening again with the Kevin Smith reboot. Young people don't give a fuck about Kevin Smith... I'm sure most people under 30 have no idea who he is. His heydays were in the 90s... when Xers who grew up with MOTU were in high school, entering the real world and forming their personalities. I see signing him on as yet another move to appease gatekeepers and orgfags, assuring them it will be handled "properly" ie: stuck in the past with Gen-Xer tier cynical humor and non stop introspective, overly scripted monologues...

Honestly... I dislike Kevin Smith and his movies. He's well known for going off the rails when actors adlib or deviate from the script in any fashion. This wouldn't be so intolerable if his dialogue weren't incredibly contrived and he didn't write every single character in his own voice.

Seriously... of you've ever heard him speak... then view one of his movies... it's ALL him. He's a terrible writer with a large ego and zero perspective outside of his own. Every fucking line for every fucking character reads like something he himself would say during an interview or podcast.

Again, Smith's largest fan base in 2020... is still Gen Xers and older Millenials. Neckbeards in their 30s-40s... the same demographic that's kept the franchise from expanding beyond its narrow scope for decades.

So excited for Ninjor. You can also see his sword on his back, as well as a loop on his belt that could be for other weapons. Also look at his dragon emblem, is it just me or does it look like it has big round eyes vs the old more narrow ones and just looks derpy overall? I'm not all in on Origins and will just cherry pick, but Ninjor has got to be one I guess. He also fits fairly well with the WWE figures. Speaking of, I wonder if it's just Origins that's getting the wide release treatment and not the WWE MotU figures. It'd be nice to see some re-releases, Skull King Triple H is like the Skeletor of the verse, we should at least get a vs repaint set, or something. Actually, "greatest rivalries" 2-pack sets sound like something that could be a lot of fun.

Seriously, if we don't work out as a target market, the MOTU property will die in our lifetimes. The generation after mine didn't play with action figures, they weren't into "badass monsters 'n' barbarians 'n' shit."

Shit, I was even thinking: if Masterverse is supposed to be a "DC Multiverse"-style take on MOTU, starting with Revelations and potentially missing Classics characters, who's to say there won't be a 200X revival within it?

The Snake Men originally used Snake Mountain as their base when they invaded Eternia in the ancient past. King Hiss and most of his army were banished to a limbo-like dimension that was housed inside the mountain.

Their god, Serpos, was a giant 3 headed snake. Two of his heads were decapitated and he was turned to stone, entwined around the mountain.

Not that this is canon but some anon had an idea ages ago to do a series where Grayskull really belongs to Skeletor's people (going by the early minicomic origin of him being just a skull faced being, not Keldor.) and the Masters just being a bunch of gentrifiers who took over the planet.

Actually the ones on the right aren’t clearanced, they’re called CVP. It’s basically a markdown for items that are damaged or the box is damaged. We use it more commonly on perishable food like days before meat expires we’ll mark it down a bit to move it.

I don't think he's particularly popular, but he's a deluxe because his clamp will work, I assume being spring loaded and shoot out to catch his enemies. Given that he's a part of the Royal Guard and an inventor, I feel like he should have some specialized armor. He has a solid color scheme but an overall boring design. Like you said, he's basically just a black guy, ignoring all his character's traits that I think should reflect in his gear.

See, I never knew he was an inventor type. I know he was Man at Arms' successor, but I thought that was just in the sense of being the head guardsman. This definitely pooped him up a bit in my view since I've always loved the inventor/mechanic type from those 80's properties. You're definitely right that his appearance doesn't relay that at all.

I guess if you want to call the Classics Bios the canon fiction, but I feel like it's one of the weaker ones, just because they tried to incorporate different ideas from all the media into one coherent storyline. I don't see anything wrong with there just being different continuities, which in fact that recent comic establishes (and also the Masterverse name of the toyline implying). In other words Filmation is its own universe, and as is 200X, the vintage mini comics, the 86 movie, the recent comics, the crossover comics, etc.

And for upcoming stuff, Revelations (which was established as canon to Filmation, even though it obviously won't be as bright a world, so that feels like a shaky statement) will be entirely different from He-Man and the MotU cartoon, which will be its own separate universe. As was She-Ra vs the filmation She-Ra.

So I would safely say that, in the context of Clamp Champ, in the MOTUC story he was more of a true "Man at Arms" in the sense that he was great with all sorts of weapons, while in the 200X story, he was essentially the true successor to Duncan and fulfilled his old role for the Masters. In the mini-comics his defining trait was his fearlessness, and in the old comics he was fiercely loyal, not turning his back on what's right even if others did. Mix it all up and perhaps that's a good look at the character. At least until another appearance changes him further, etc.

I'd like to believe the other cartoon(not the Smith one) will be a bigger step in the right direction of being its own thing, but when even Origins(meant to be the most boiled down to the essentials) still draws as heavily from Filmation as it does instead of pulling from the minicomics which had preceded it, I just don't have faith. So I'll continue to just get toys and not really worry about the established "official" stories.

Origins seems to be more taking inspiration from the vintage toyline than anything, it seems. Besides the mini comics, artwork, and character epithets, the figures are pretty much blank slates, and I'm sure many kids who get these will treat them as such, at least until the cartoons pop up.

The harnesses are pretty damn rough. MAA's armor straps seem to extend way too long (if you want them to fit more snugly). And his head is also disproportionate compared to the rest of the line. If you look at Teela or even Adam and Duncan's wide head, they barely look like the same species.

The difference from the WWE line is that those guys have been using Classics molds, like Mysterio's is from Classics Stratos, which had a sensible way to clasp onto the figure. On the other hand, Origins seems to be wanting to emulate the vintage toys a bit too much, like each part of the harness plugging into the belt part. Statos's wings also appear to clip onto his wrists, rather than slide onto the wrists, like the vintage toy compared to Mysterio. Ninjor not using cloth goods is a good thing imo, but then I'm sure some would disagree that they should try to improve upon the design choices of the vintage figures rather than just emulate them. I mean, some were even trying to petition to remove the articulation and just reissue the vintage toys again.

I'm glad I pre-ordered the Lords of Power set because that MAA looks much better. Mer-Man, too, aside from the head. I definitely prefer the vintage style head for him.

It's really odd that easy customization seems to be one of the main features of this line, and even cross play with the WWE line, but nothing about these figures are advertised as being able to do this. Randomly saw a review where the guy thought he broke his Origins figure, and then discovered that the arms were interchangeable (I assume he still has no idea that the heads, torsos/legs to knees, and shins are also able to do this).

I actually much prefer the old artwork look for Mer-Man, both faces are comical in their own ways, but one looks a lot more aquatic than the other (which is probably why the other is also used on Stinkor).

I think they'll retain value, if that's what you want them for. It's possible that Masterverse will also feature some Classics figures (ie using those molds) some day, which may entice some to want the older figures. Not everyone is into articulation and different aesthetics, as can be seen on Org, and Classics for a lot of people is the best MotU line, certainly the most comprehensive

I've got a question/story for you guys who know how these things work...

Two days ago checked the app found He-man and Skeletor at separate Wal Marts. Sky Sled and Battle Car were listed OOS. The other 4 figures didn't even show up on the app.

Went to every Wal Mart in my area in hopes that something may have been stocked and not made the app. No luck.

Yesterday... All the other characters pop up on the app at Wal Marts I had just been to... All listed OOS.

What gives? Is my timing just shit, did they never have them or did some scalper track down the toy department stocker and buy every case in my area before they hit shelves?

I'm only getting back into toys recently and have no idea how this shit works. On the upside... my wife was more pissed than I was. Not happy I struck out but good to know she's invested in my hobby lol.

I feel like Origins is going to be the better line to collect, because of the vehicles and the eventual Castle Grayskull playset that's been discussed over and over again, that Mattel says that they are waiting on to release. It's supposedly a scaled down budget version of the Classics one-- so more detailed and more features. The ability to swap parts and gear, along with heads also means that as more versions of characters come out, you'll be able to make specific looks. Skeletor already has like 6 heads between the Keldor two-pack, the Lords of Power set, the Battle Armor version and his wave 1 release. About the only other head they could give him that's missing is a 200X head.

Out of all the leaks, the only new figures outside of "exclusive" versions that Mattel haven't showed off were the following:

Several of these characters appear in art for Wave 3, including Tri-Clops, Stinkor, Faker, and Fisto. Faker is also shown driving a Roton. Mattel has also said multiple times that the characters featured in the art, isn't a coincidence, that they're deliberate, and strongly suggested that these were characters and probably vehicles, such as the Rotan that would be appearing in the line.

I imagine once they're on the Horde we'll get more She-Ra characters. They suggested during the Power-Con panel, that now that the Netflix series was over that She-Ra characters were now available for the line, and that they were mulling over whether they should come on MOTU cardbacks, or pink vintage Princess of Power cardbacks.

I think I'll be the opposite, cherry pick Origins and collect Masterverse. I have to say the straight vintage look of some of them isn't doing it for me, though I'm sure many are happy with that. I think that's why I like the Masters of the WWE Universe figures more (I will continue to collect these), they seem so novel and interesting, while there really isn't much new in Origins (that said, I was very much planning on getting lots if not all of them before the Masterverse announcement, where I think I'll plant my flag). And in terms of vintage toys or cartoon or mini comics looks, I've been collecting the Mega Construx line, so I have those for all my classic MotU needs (just got the Roton with Battle Cat, Mer-Man, and BA He-Man, what a fun set it is). I may also grab some of the Minis. I was thinking favourite characters, as well as some of the vehicles.

I think this is great, there's so much MotU to be had in so many different forms in this year and the next and onward, and even new media happening.And between all these great toys, MCX, Origins, WWE MotU, Minis, and Masterverse, there's something (or multiple somethings) for everyone.

Since you brought up Battle Cat, I want to bring something up about him. When Pixel Dan asked about BC lacking ankles for more dynamic posing, the guys in charge of the line jokingly chastised him, stating something like, "what more do you want? The original didn't have any articulation." What do you guys think about that kind of attitude towards the line? It seems like rather than strive for the best product, they're going simply for some modern improvements (and at other times adhering too closely to the originals, as was discussed in this thread, like with Stratos and his wings and harness). I do still think BC looks like a fun figure, maybe just not as good as it could be. Perhaps they're treating Origins as the kids line, and Masterverse will be the one where they go all out (I mean, 30+ poa is already a good start in that department, we'll just have to see if the paint and sculpt is up to snuff).

Hm, might have to rethink this... apparently the price of Origins in Canada is confirmed to be $14.97, which is the same price as the US, which is absurd and unheard of. I assumed that was a listing error until the product was launched but that price was on the planograms, supposedly. For reference the WWE MotU figures are $19.97 here, which is an expected markup, and what I expected Origins to be. Maybe I should just get everything...
