I am torn guys. I want a shelf of classic figures in with the rest of my turtles. These super 7 figures look great. But I don't think they will get to the crazier guys I like, Panda Khan, Wingnut, Wyrm, etc. And I don't think the change in Scale will be good either. What do?

Well considering we are getting Mutagen Man and Muckman has been confirmed to be coming in a future wave I think its safe to say we will get Wingnut though I'm not sure on Wrym and Panda Khan licensing issues.

Playmates need to get with the times and look at the market. Rise toys bombed hard and now this. Just copy what Mattel is doing with the Masters of the Universe line, updated articulation but feels and looks like the old toys. Simply cheaper version of the SUPER7 toys and pump them out in retail stores.

I don't think they have it in them to create something Hasbro-grade. They're probably going to shutter Ninja Turtles toys until the Seth Rogan movie comes out and make more 4 inch unpainted crap for that. Also Rise was done dirty, I hope there's demand for collectors figures someday.

Playmates' short comings stem from the fact they refuse to step up their game. They're too inexperienced to make good looking super posable figures (despite the monetary incentive to do so) and too unimaginative to create affordable but fun tmnt toys for kids. The only reason the original TMNT line was as outrageously well received is because the people working on the line came hot off the wheels of MOTU's success and were given carte blanche to do with the property as they so chose.
While they bitterly devise new means of fucking with NECA for outdoing them with Turtles figures, they're loosing money by the minute. Yet instead of putting together some kind of lanard esc tmnt line for the time being, they're enduring the damage from Rise's failure and Power Players' underperformance. The only thing keeping them afloat for the time being is Kong, Goji, and Ben 10. Im surprised playmates hasn't gone the way of Jazwares, and just bought out a more competent toy company to do their work for them.

Should I get the NECA Super Shredder? I'm planning to mainly get Super7 stuff since I like the toy designs more but I really doubt they'll end up doing the toy versions of the movie characters and the NECA one would work as a good stand in for that.

Probably not my dude. If you can find the turtles in time sets anywhere I think those retail for $25 a piece. But you've already missed wave 1 and those will be expensive on the secondary market. You can also wait and see if NECA re-releases the Movie turtles as maybe a 4 pack or something? The figurarts Cartoon Turtles were just on sale for $35, but they are likely gone now. And then the S7 stuff starts at 45, and goes up from there.

Maybe try to find a Bootleg version of the revoltechs or movie turtles, they're out there for cheap

Your best bet, which requires absolutely lucking out at retail at this point, is the turtles in time NECA figures for that price range.
Don't buy playmates attempt to get more out of the TMNT classics molds. You'll only be dissapointed.
A nice alternitive is the bootleg NECA Mirage turtles which you can often find for 50$ for the eintire lot.
Go for the colored bandanna sets though, the red ones often all use the same head sculpt of Raph despite all 4 having unique heads.

I love that Leatherhead sculpt, but I can't stand the cartoon Slash. I might just get the Turtles in Time versions of Leatherhead and Slash, but I also can't stand the stupid pixel shading. I wonder how challenging it would be to paint them in a way that makes the shading less pixel looking and more natural. Not exactly, but the Batman vs TMNT figures by DC Collectibles are close enough for me. They're from an OVA based on a comic co-published by IDW and the character designs were done by Andy Kuhn, an artist that has drawn issues for IDW TMNT.

They're releasing a 1/4 Raphael with this new toon head. NECA will eventually release it in the 7" line so most likely next year we can get the Wave one colored turtles again, with a new head, hopefully packed with the old. But they'd need to redo the next peg since it's not really swappable.

I think that's really only true of the spin-off seasons (Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer), since otherwise they seemed fairly rounded off, outside of maybe the shape of their plastrons.

That being said, maybe some Tournament Fighters figures wouldn't necessarily need new bodies, as the movie Turtles would suffice. They're really just need new heads and new belts, and everything else would just be a difference of paint.

I still stand by the assertion that Playmates and Nick fucked up by releasing such a vastly different incarnation of the TMNT directly after one that was as well regarded amongst fans as the 2012 series was. That kind of decision making always directly leads to failure and it happened to the tmnt before. Right after the original cartoon ended, a few years after the third movie got shit out, TNM became Eastman and Laird's attempt to revitalize the franchise using some scrapped ideas they would have put into a fourth movie that never manifested. Long story short, Next Mutation introduced a bunch of new bullshit and flanderized the ever living fuck out of the turtles to the point where the show overall feels like a parody of both TMNT and Power Rangers. There's a direct correlation between TNM and Rise.
Honestly part of me wishes they had just continued with a full series based on those half shell hero movies.

Depends on what you want really, because they deliver on two pretty different things. I love my NECA turtles because of the cartoon-accurate look, including painted black lines to emphasize the aesthetic.
The Super 7 turtles are great too, but I have no connection to them since I didn't grow up with the classic toys. If you have nostalgia for the old toys or just enjoy the white eyes look of the Super 7s then go with them.
Both are great though, and don't let anyone else tell you different.

Not from what I've seen. You're probably aware that the lighter turtles came in packs with two turtles each, whereas the originals came packed one turtle and one villain.
The lighter ones came with some paper accessories that may have been exclusive to them but I'm not sure.

Since so many people are talking about the pixel shading on the game turtles, I have a question. Would acetone work well for removing the shading without ruining the figure? I'm unsure of which parts are molded in the specific color and what's painted on, but I was just wondering if this could be a possible solution of sorts for those of us that don't like the pixel look.

I almost got these at gamestop just for the weapons and belts. I have all my original turtles but all are missing their weapons and donnie is missing his belt. Now I regret not pulling the trigger because ebay prices for parts are redonkulous.

Isopropyl alcohol like other anon suggested, and if that doesn't work, maybe a q-tip with a little nail polish remover (my sister did this to a figure of mine after she drew make up on it's face with nail polish and accidentally stripped the paint apps off)
