Your kit is unlikely to have come with Vallejo brand thinner but this is fine as Vallejo is water based so water works fine. Use a ratio of one part water one part thinner, I recommend using eye droppers for getting more precise with the water drop amounts, but a clean brush works too. However SOME paints require a thicker amount of paint, this would be stuff like Yellow, Pink, sometimes orange, so experiment with that to see what works but try to start at two parts paint, maybe three parts but two should work.
VERY IMPORTANT, do NOT get complete opaque coverage on first go! you put it on WAY too thick if you got it completely covered. You do this in layers, paint first in one direction horizontal or vertical then let the part dry for a few minutes. Now go over it again going the OTHER direction Vertical or Horizontal respectively, this is to prevent any build up of brush patterns. Three layers like this is usually good. Some colors may need different base coats to work better, like yellows need white under them.
Make sure you are using nice and soft brushes to minimize brush strokes in the paint texture.
remember that Vallejo is a VERY weak paint, it scratches off supremely easily. you REALLY want to have primer and a top clear coat to protect it. let the primer cure for a few days depending on the primer before painting on it. same with the top coat, let the paint completely cure for a few days before top coating.
you WILL NEED to do primers and top coats as sprays, there is NO WAY AROUND THIS. That stuff is just too thick to work well brushed on, well some options for top coat COULD work brushing but that's a different story. I highly recommend in your case to get a cardboard box, set up the parts in there next to a open window, and spray into the box so that the overspray is only hitting the inside of the box. immediately turn on a fan when done spraying aimed at the window so the fumes are expelled.
