Yeah I REALLY prefer the first, more subdued green. It's got almost an "aged copper" look to it, which I wouldn't have expected but kind of love.

Vastly prefer the #1 color. Looks more like aged copper instead of bright, flat plastic. But for all I know its a pricing thing and the #2 color lets them put it out at a cheaper unit price.

Man the design on this is so astoundingly cool and done by a really great artist and I feel pretty strongly that the second color lets it down. The details pop so much better with color 1 and there is an almost pearlescent look to the plastic. I really hope they don't go with the more bland plastic of the second version.

Really cool how it opens for the transformation and instead of just having hollow ugly plastic they filled the space with this really cool design work.

All I own is a single Dio right now, and the thought of getting an upgrade pack for him is really appealing. I'm generally more impressed with the clear plastic colors of HellDiver's upgrade though.

Is your Dio 1.0 or 2.0? The upgrade pack attaches using the 3mm ports on the 2.0 mold for everything besides the head-gear.

Also, I don't see why 52toys wouldn't do solo releases for the armor packs later on.

Mine's not shipped yet. I ordered it with the Torado/Tiger PO that's getting released next week. They have already responded to the Tmall complaints regarding the missing DIOs and sent replacements, so it's unlikely that my order will be screwed up.

It's best to ask your proxy if they can confirm the contents if they have already received it. Iif the proxy is the unhelpful(cheap) type, contact 52toys CS and ask if they can verify it from their end and send replacements.

Love how the armor has its own personality and is a fun small modular toy on by itself. I'll probably pick up Giobana, that JoJo with 3mm ports, so Dio has someone to share his gear with. He seems to be that type of robo-dino.

Main issue I have with it is the head. The neck is made up these two hinges and can only swing front/back. If one of them was a ball joint, he'd been able to turn his head for more dynamic poses. It also looks gappy from the side, though this is probably covered up on the Leonardo version.

Also the pic shows the max his jaw can (barely) open, which is disappointing for a toy of an apex predator. It's weird seeing how there's actually a hinge there, but there's not enough clearance for the jaw to open. You can't mod it easily either, it seems the halves of the head is glued together.

The transformation into a box isn't very impressive either. Most of the parts don't have locking tabs and are just hanging freely in box mode. There are two tabs on the sides of the tail but they don't tab into anything, I think they are used for the Leonardo version.

I also wish there was an extra 3mm port on its back, which looks quite plain.

Overall it seems like an older design from the JoJo/Momo/Delta-era. I believe its prototype was shown around that time, wasn't it?

This is regrettable, but I guess it was bound to happen in a line where designs are sourced from a bunch of different companies/designers. You get more diverse range and a bigger pool of ideas, but you also don't necessarily get the steady rate of progression that tends to come from a single group improving and learning over time.

The cats are designed by Team X2R which is Saibooku 22 renamed as far as I know. They did majority of the BeastBox/Megabox designs and also 52toys' other figurines, pretty much 52toys' in-house designers. Maybe it's done by designer there new to BeastBox, idk.

There wasn't a "Team X2R" until around the middle of this year when that label started showing up on the BB/MB packaging as the design credit, i.e Landbreaker, Predator, Painkiller, Torado. The interesting ones are Painkiller and Torado because their previous mold-mates Behemoth and Leonardo respectively are credited to Saibooku22, so I was assuming it was a simple name-change of the design studio.

Even just looking at the protos I can tell you that won't be the case. These are not only larger, they also have a lot more paint apps/tampos and numerous soft goods layered on each other. I would be very surprised if this didn't hit at least a $50 price point, if not more.

Dunno if I'm into it but damn it makes me so happy for this company. They have come so far since they launched Dio back in the day. Not only has the quality and creativity of the BeastBox line improved but they've even managed to introduce multiple box lines as well as branch out into brand new original shit like this. Totally blown away by how good the Stego looks to me. Adorable but tough head. Big blocky body. Awesome colors. Transformation looks really neat with splitting parts and the same translucent plastic covers for those splitting pieces to fill in the hollow gaps. So great.

It depends on your forwarder's volumetric weight criteria. Official Taobao forwarding to my country usually end up using actual weight over volumetric and since they charge on 1st kg basis, it's cheaper for me to have them in one big shipping box.

Depending on the price, I might be interested. I mean, if it's just an action figure of a human shaped character that can turn into a cube, why not just get a different human shaped character, like a 1000Toys Synth. Sure you have the gimmicky nature of the blockiness but also the limitations it'll bring, like those pegs in the leg, the ugly ball peg in the back of the arm, etc. It could be real interesting though, as the base design does look neat, and all the peg holes could lend themselves to accessories that peg on. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Even when you buy them secondhand from scalpers the price has barely gone up at all. Gotten a few things like Yummy Boy where it was being sold secondhand but for only like 1.5x the cost which is like $35. So its not really that big of a deal if there is some limited colorway you're desperate to have.

On another note I ordered a ton of beast boxes. 7 of them I think. Considering if I want to ask the forwarder to remove them from their packaging and repack them into a smaller box or just eat the cost outright.

Scalper market is mostly on Taobao's 2nd hand, craigslist-equivalent platform 闲鱼 https://2.taobao.com/ which is hard to access without using their app + a mainland china HP number. I feel pretty silly given how basically every last animal on my Beast Box wishlist ended up getting made into an actual release, but I am just not liking this wolf. I really, really wanted to be excited for a wolf design, but I got no idea whats going on here. The face looks really strange and almost like its from another toyline entirely. And why does the wolf have one paw with just two gigantic clawed toes but a more normal looking paw right on the other side?

Thats such a weird concept to me. Aren't all beast boxes made of "metal" so to speak? I'm sure it has some backstory about losing its arm and having it replaced with some huge robot claw, but its still just a robot losing its arm and getting a mismatched robot arm? Also the face hits me with one of my current pet peeves with the line lately. Its moved further away from the angular, cute but tough robot animal aesthetic a bit too much for my liking. The wolf has a weird organic, almost ratty face that just doesn't work for me at all when I really wish it did.

Beastbox apparently sources its designs from a number of artists, some from other companies, some independent, some even from other countries. So the line is inevitably going to vary aesthetically from time to time.

I love crab robots, but the transformation looks super simplistic from what I can see, and the design is pretty uninspired when you look a little closer. I also have my doubts about those many hinge joints holding up under the weight of diecast panels, and also of repeatedly transforming a diecast toy (chip city). It just doesn't seem like the right fit for this line in many ways.

As much as I’m not quite feeling Cube Man, it’s cool to know it was engineered by Alex Kubalsky. He worked at Takara and designed a bunch of Bumblebee figures (Classics, Animated, the first modern Camarillo deluxe), and more recently did Mastermind Creations’ version of Arcee

I adore Mechazone. I've met him in person and bought toys off him multiple times. But...I'm not really feeling this. The proportions are so clunky and unflattering, and very unlike his usual silhouettes. I wonder just how much had to be compromised to make it work as a box...

Oh well, either way, I'm really happy that David is getting work with professional companies now. His toys were too good to just remain indie things forever.
