SpyMonkey and Wor especially could have a whole thing with with their own factions and storylines like you said, but instead we just get homages of figures that are already doing it better. The fucked up thing is that I know Wor has lore, like these are based on original characters, but we don't see any of it. People want the Joe characters or Motu characters because they know the characters and resonate with them somehow, and instead of giving customers new characters and stories to explore they just ride the coattails of stuff people already like. And I get doing a few, like if you've got a ninja mold, then not making Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow is leaving money on the table. But just redoing the whole fucking Joe lineup?
Say what you will about KotS but I think Jesse is the only one that actually knows how to sell a line. Every figure gets a blurb and a place in the story and world. Homages are rare and are never meant to BE that character, just a fun reference. And people love it. I fucking hated the pizza knight design when it came out. Stupidest shit I've ever seen, and yet I just bought the fucking trade paperback Jesse just released because he managed to snag me with this absolutely absurd nonsense-world he's created and brought these characters to life in.
I just think there's a lot of wasted potential in glyos for storytelling and it's a bit of a shame.
