I bought this plush when it was at a local art store on clearance and it's been well-loved in the meantime. I've sewn and washed it a few times given that the material isn't the strongest and now realize it's unfortunately quite rare, I'm trying to buy another one so I can have a spare when this one becomes too worn.

It's the Mel Bee character (Moosh-Moosh Squared line) by the Moosh Moosh company but there's nothing for it on their site and I've had no luck with Ebay either. Any tips/ideas of how to find another one?

Just a piglette I like. They are expensive, but super beautiful with hand-sculpted features from their minky fur and have good jointed arms and legs. My friend got one for his fiancee inlaid with gold and jewels and stuff.

I'm still here, I just didn't want to spam the thread with near-identical progress shots while I sort out the tiny details.

Currently waiting for some steel tubing to come in the mail. The connection between the 3mm balljoints and 1.2mm rod is kinda delicate and breakable, so I'm gonna try reinforcing it.

Also you should post some stuff to improve the thread if you're gonna criticize gondolanon's contributions

Mewtwo looks incredible; I’m excited for the final results, whenever they may come, but I’m enjoying watching the progress just as much. I hate to comment on it considering how much work you’ve put into sculpting his head, but it looks a bit too small in proportion to the rest of his body. He does have a small head in all of his artwork and appearances, to be fair. Is this the test of his pattern before you remake the plush in the proper colors, or are you planning to dye what you already have?

I want this guy to FEEL 1/6 scale, and I was worried a bigger, anime-style head would skew that.

The head pattern isn't finalized yet. I decided to wait until the final body is assembled, so I'll know exactly what I'm working with. If it doesn't look right, I'll have to tweak the head size.

This is still pattern testing. Here's an old photo of some tests to dye the final fabric. I think the grey needs to be a teeny bit more purple. I'm really, really nervous about dyeing the fabric, because I've only got enough for two shots, and the supplier is all sold out.

Hey, /plush/. I have a few specific questions, pic related. In the picture, the faces on these are needle felted, but I've been wanting to make my own plush version with a face like them or in this style. The artist is ribo. There are tons of tutorials for things like bodies and such, but not much about how one would make a muzzle/cheek combination like in my pic, or detailed faces in general. Do you sew them on separately after the so-called "globe" of the head is made? Are there any tutorials for working in details like these? The nose/mouth area and the cheek parts are what I'm most concerned with. I've seen plushies online and in stores with lots of detail and shape, so I assume it's possible somehow without the needle felting part. Any help is much appreciated, as I'm a major newbie at things like this.

I don't do any needle felting myself, but I know it's popular for making the muzzles of artisan teddy bears.

If you want that general shape without felting, it can be obtained with thread sculpting (and scissor sculpting if the fabric has a pile.

My plush making friend said to boil water and use a tiny bit of fabric softener to hand wash them, though they didn't really specify if I'm supposed to wash it in boiling fucking water or after it cools, cause if that's the case what's the point of boiling water? So actually never mind this isn't that helpful, but if any anons can elaborate on either this or a different way please help us

Vacuum to remove surface dust. Spot clean with Folex, following bottle directions. Immersion clean with lukewarm water and mild detergent like Woolite or baby clothes detergent. Rinse repeatedly, roll in towels to remove excess water and dry flat. Washing won't fade the fabric unless you're a dumbass and use bleach. Don't be a dumbass and use bleach.

Personally, I mix a small amount of non-scented laundry detergent and water in a bowl. Then I dip a toothbrush in it and gently scrub the plush. I pat the plush with a damp towel to get rid of the soap and then I pat it with a dry towel. Finally, I use a boar bristle brush and brush the plush in the direction the hairs are facing as to not mess it up.

I’ve done this many times and it’s always a success. Sometimes I buy used plushes that have stains on them and this technique always gets rid of them.

It used to be for comfort, but nowadays it's for a few reasons: Collecting them is fun, especially with there being a goal. My goal is to amass all the dream dolls I've wanted when I was growing up, and to also buy the cutest dolls I've ever seen to not break the aesthetic of the collection. Then there's just the feeling of the character actually being physical that just adds on a cool factor, the character or thing might not actually be alive, but it's really fun to just see them in real life rather than 2D. Being able to touch and see every angle in 3D is really awesome. They're bigger than figurines and feel more interactive.

So /plush/ it is my first time here and I come for an advice.

Few years back I got a expensive, custom made plush for myself, which for years was all good, but since last year it has started to get dark, the original colour is yellow and orange. It hasn't been on sun, I don't cum on it or do any disgusting shit with it, during the day it sits on my bed and in the night I often sleep with it (I do always take shower before so I am clean). I need an advice if I should attempt to clean it or if there is way too big chance of damaging it. I tried some of those active cleaning foams, but without a result, water seemed to just spread the grayness around, and some special kind of a toy cleaner didn't help that much.

Do you have any special things how to clean it up? It matters a lot to me so I am not going to risk anything that could damage or destroy it.

Any advice is good.

These posts both have useful advice for plush cleaning. I'm assuming your plush maker was skilled enough that you shouldn't need to worry about damage from these methods, but if you have doubts about how sturdy your plush is maybe just be extra gentle over seams, embroidery, facial features etc.

Also if you don't want to have to repeat the cleaning in a couple years I would really suggest you stop sleeping with it. Even if you're clean when you get in bed, humans sweat a surprising amount while they sleep.

From what I can tell, they all hold their value in the resale market and plenty of them gain value if they're really popular. Most of the collectors seem to be little old ladies and they go HAM for 'em.

(Also my life's dream is to become a successful textile artist, so I do understand the effort that goes into the construction and can only hope that they do pay their sewists' a decent wage. It's a little iffy because they are made in Thailand, but they seem to hire their staff personally rather than going through a third party sweatshop.)

Dont get me wrong I love Terriermon. But I dont really understand the point of having this many plush that all look so similar even if they are all technically not the same. Like I can sorta understanding account for some variants like ones of significantly different sizes or the one with it's eyes closed laying down.

The bottom shelf is from a UFO prize catcher set and was really fun to collect. There is a sitting and lying down pose with smiling eye variants and 1 standing so they all felt different enough.

The middle shelf are two extremely squishy pillows and feel so much different than any plush I own. I think theyre called mofu mofu or something. The one between that was a cheap huge UFO prize catcher.

The middle one on top is the p bandai one and its in perfect scale and has high quality fur that feels like an animal.

And then a new lopmon terriermon prize catcher set came out and I had to buy ot because I have a problem

so im making a plush of vibri and im wondering how to work around her uhh... anatomy if you can call it that. in game the outline on her head is always facing towards you, so if she is looking dead on you it will separate the front and back and if she is looking to the side it goes down the middle. so i need ideas on how i could possibly make it so that you can only see one at a time depending on how you look at it, or if it would just be better to leave that out.

Nah, I have a severely eclectic style as is, so they work. I DO have a problem with big plush though. For a while my friends/family kept gettin me huge stuffed animals, and I just don't have the room for them.

I definitely feel this.
I found that it's good to purge some old/unwanted items that you don't really feel fit in your collection anymore.
If you don't want to throw them away or resort to goodwill, you can donate them to your local police station and they give it to kids who need to spend time in the station. I feel like that's a more wholesome end to their journey as a plush than just trashing them.
Storage also helps. Crates, shelves, whatever.

There are convincing fakes of the Mary baby lambs out there, they look exactly the same but they have Chinese tags. I bought mine for about 35 bucks at the time so I would be wary of anything cheap. good luck on your search anon!

I recently bought a plush, pic related, that has a piece (an umbrella) with plastic coating over the fabric. The plush is 14 years old, so that plastic has started to crack and fall off the fabric base. I have a couple questions: one, is there a name for this material, and/or is there a name specifically for the plastic material that is used on fabric/stuffed animals? Two, is there any way to preserve the plastic? Could I coat it with something like fabric Modge Podge?

The umbrella is a vinyl laminated fabric. That stuff generally has a lifespan of about 4-6 years before it begins to crack and delaminate. Vinyl offgases its plasticizers at a rapid rate, causing it to stiffen and lose elasticity. Nothing you can do to stop the process. Sealants just trap the offgases and accelerate this. You can find vinyl "repair" kits at auto and upholstery shops but it's not really worth it for such a small piece with multiple colors. Best bet is to remove and replace it.

The repair would have about the same longevity as the original material. My recommendation would be to remove it but keep it in an acid-free paper container so it can breathe, and have a cotton or minky replacement made. You could also have a cotton print jacket made to cover the original vinyl, in a similar color scheme or pattern, if you don't want to remove it entirely, so it stays attached to the plush.

I think the acid-free container is a brilliant idea for storing it safely. It's a shame the umbrella wasn't made of cloth in the first place, but I think getting a full replacement is my best bet. Thanks a lot anon!

Not really. All the vinyl type fabrics are bonded, and eventually delaminate from their fabric backings, crack, or peel. Other materials to look at: leather, polyester fabrics that have a high sheen, nylon, and PUL (Polyurethane Laminate). While still a laminate, PUL has much better longevity than vinyl products. I'd look at polyester-backed PUL instead of cotton-backed. That would be in the waterproof/utility fabrics section of fabric stores like Joann Crafts. If you're looking to duplicate the design of the umbrella, I'd try white cotton muslin, painted with acrylic paint, then sealed with a gloss acrylic sealer, then sewn up. Acrylics don't off-gas the way vinyl does, but the clear sealants can yellow over time, especially with sun/light exposure. There's no really good option here to replicate exactly.

Regarding official plush, Registeel, rock, and ice do not have plush, notoriously so.
Regigigas has a few older releases (Pokedoll, Tomy, Jakks), unfortunately they came out a decade ago so you're stuck with aftermarket on those.
The new regis don't have plush yet but it's likely they could at some point since they're still announcing crown tundra merch. Pokemon Center is the most likely place, the international store gets things in months after Japan does and they don't carry everything.

If you have FB, there's a group there of artists who will do commission work. Look for "Custom Plush Sales & Trades". Or search on Etsy for Pokemon plush artists, and see if they offer commission work. You can message the artist for info/pricing, and a custom listing for a commissioned character. Also check Instagram or twitter for pokemon plush artists who take commissions by searching hashtags.

I love terriermon, but I bought an expensive custom instead of being half-happy with one of the mass-made plushes, and I am really happy I did that. He's perfect and he takes up much less room than a bunch of plushes.
