They've built a TTmall-esque dedicated site that allows them to sell directly to consumers, which means they can do pre-order based manufacture runs of figures that would be utter shelfwarmers at the big box stores or amazon (Who the fuck is Tigertrack? etc) for pure profit.
We get oddball repaints, obscure characters, and unique goodies like the Centurion accessory pack, and Hasbro gets to expand the franchise for money.
Don't forget, other franchises under the Hasbro belt are getting unique goodies there too.
