They have mold release on them and that can attract dust and keep it stuck to them.

I have 2 air purifiers in my room working almost 24/7 and they don't really reduce dust that much.
If oyu want shit to be dust free (actually just reducing dust since it still gets in there), get yourself a cabinet with doors.
