Just got my Apeface. I have a few questions? Is the ape transformations in the instructions correct? I only managed to connect the ape head to the torso properly for Ape mode if I left the black leg pieces untabbed, it also gives me more ape leg articulation compared to leaving them tabbed (which almost has no clearance to move them forward)

Forgot the other question. The shield breakage issue is only when tabbing it for vehicle mode? It fits fine in other holes, but I didn't try adding it there since I wasn't sure how bad that issues is. Are you meant to widen that hole?

Yeah no, Prime looked awful, Soundwave has lacked paint which the animation model had AND the new ER Soundwave has.
That and they're fucking tiny, like smaller then a ML small.

The wait doesn't bother me. I've slowed way down on collecting. Airwave, centurion, and sandstorm are the only ones I'm getting the rest of the year. Beast Wars probably won't be wide spread till feb/March next year the earliest.

Is the Takara version of TM2 Megatron actually worth getting if I can find it in decent condition?

The recent third-party Legends figure reminded me how much I liked the design but since there's no modern large-sized figure of TM2 Megatron (yet), I was wondering if the original figure is good enough in its own right.

Those were Decepticons, and I couldn't find the reissue Soundwave either to match. Pretty sure some scalper hid a lot of the G1 stuff at my local store, only other ones I found was a Warpath and a Gears.

Yeah I've read horror stories about the QC issues.

This illustrates that the reason I'll always prefer transforming figures, regardless of mecha franchise, to nontransforming ones even if I never actually transform them. The transforming bits give the figure a depth that makes them look larger and more fully realized, where as the flat, fake panels on the nontransforming one makes it look far less "real". I get that its trying to go for a cartoon look, but I feel the same way on toonier stuff like Animated or the modern MPs, by virtue of having all the panels on them they feel more like a 3D object.

He's alright. I prefer this design over the MP, but the smudge marks are a bit annoying. He's kind of wide and blocky, if you don't like the proportions you might want the upgrade kit.

There IS a Kingdom Earth Mode and a bootleg of this mold coming out, so either of those might be better as well.

War for Cybertron has been such a mixed bag. It feels like there's been a step forward in engineering, and the start of Siege showed so much promise with the new higher accessory count, but as we've gone on it's gotten bogged down by strange decisions.

Some figures are now back down to one measly gun. Sunstreaker is especially egregious about this because his gun is an entire piece of his altmode. Hoist is a frankly bizarre update to the G1 design that has half his altmode hang off his shoulders in the most obtrusive way possible. Both Megatrond have been hampered by some of the worst excuses for weapons we've seen since Beast Wars. And speaking of Partsforming, we've seen an unapologetic return to just taking off half the vehicle and transforming the rest of the toy. And probably the most egregious has been the planned retools- releasing the cast in Cybertronian modes before releasing the exact same toys in the forms everyone wanted in the first place feels a lot more sleazy than just normal cashing in on retools. Or look at Refraktor- everyone wanted the G1 version, but instead the G1 version is a limited exclusive.

There's been a lot to like in this line and we've seen a lot of very good Never Evers (like a near-perfect Optimus, Soundwave, Reflector, and now the return of Beast Wars) but I can't help but feel disappointed in how things have shaken out

Magnus specifically was designed in 1978 for Diaclone which featured contemporary Earth modes. These were still "robots in disguise" in the Diaclobe lore.

Headmaster Blitzwing Is almost 100% accurate to the cartoon, he had the same odd proportions there.

If they try to improve him it would be only on articulation, adding wrist swivels and ankle rockers.

What's the deal with Hasbro trying to expand Transformers into other things that always fail? ConstructBots died quickly. Kreo was able to keep going through blind bags but even that didnt last. They thought BotBots would be a hit but most retailers won't even stock them anymore. And now RED, which was hated by fans from day 1 and now turns out to be half-assed.

RED isn't really a wierd tangent expansion, they're just actionmasters even if they're shit.
It's a little amusing that the original action masters boasted much greater articulation than regular transformers for the time but RED's hitting far below the bar.

My Autorooper showed up today. Ordered it before the new scans, so it's all been good timing. This thing is no joke, it's incredible. The box and accessories feel really quality and the whole thing has an amazing presentation. It's totally missed in the reactions to it that it's not just an otaku market approach in terms of it being pervy, but that whole high end Japanese otaku collectible feel in general. The robot itself largely feels like a prototype for what became Masterpiece sportscars like Sideswipe, but where Sideswipe is super solid and chunky, it's lost all the crazy detail work.

It doesn't feel nearly as dated as I thought it would. Pretty much only the feet seem like they should collapse a lot more than they do, and I'm terrified of the amount of thin clear plastic it has on the roof. As the only currently affordable figure in the line, you could do a lot worse. I'll probably keep looking into Alternator style stuff in general.

And boy do you know this line isn't getting reprinted any time soon.

I give you ankle rockers, most of the time they are just an aesthetic fix and you can get the same poses without them, but swordwielder characters need wrist swivels.

He's alright for an Ironhide, has all the joints and goes nice with the weaponizers. Problems would be the two side panels on his calves popping off easily, and looking quite hollow from the back (they "stretched" him out to make him a taller deluxe)
