>>8448314You're trying to conflate personal passion and work ethic here, and they are two very different things. Japanese work culture is different in general, there is a sense of personal pride in doing your best. That is what you are mistaking for personal passion. A huge portion of the industry in Japan doesn't personally care about the properties at hand either, they're just doing a good job. That's not to say there isn't a higher percentage of people in the toy industry there who DO care, but again, there are a lot of cultural differences to take into account. And even in Japan, overly excitable otaku with low social awareness are not appreciated in the workplace, even if they may have skills and passion.
You need to remember that making this shit is a job first and foremost. People are doing this shit to survive, and a LOT of the time it isn't fun. I worked in the toy industry for a few years and I did not enjoy it, it was extremely stressful and hectic and I didn't have a good time at all. You get over the "star struck"-ness of working in toys real fast and it just becomes another grind.
