Transformers have not felt like a good buy for several years now. First the plastic was flimsy crap, now they are so fucking small. They just keep getting more expensive while the toys get arguably worse or only have lateral movement. Yeah yeah, 'muh articulation', but damn. Were the toys of the 90s better. Cybertron and original Classics too.

I felt this way until I saw the Kingdom figures. The paint has a bit of room for improvement, but I haven't seen this level of molding in a long ass time.

I'm gonna have to disagree. I got back into the hobby due to VTOL Sandstorm back in generations. While I can't say I've enjoyed everything, it has been an overall okay experience for me. Brunt,Cog, and Six gun are a fucking blast over all, Astrotrain of a fun chungus of a bot. Springer is just GREAT, Ultra mag is glorious, and even earthmode OP is all good. Sky lynx is just the cherry on top of it all. Battletrap remains one of my favorites and BLOTT is just neat.

I'm not sold on Kingdom and I wanted Beast Wars. OG Cheetor has a ton of issues regarding the weird large rear cat legs and the cat head needing a bit of a redesign, but it was a substantial toy and fun. Kingdom doesn't really click. Something is just missing. Rattrap is pretty much what I wanted, while Blackarachnia feels like lateral movement. The original was great in spider mode, tranny in robot mode because repaint. This one is great in robot mode, passable in spider mode.

They really aren't though. Original Classics were superior in every single way to current Generations bar 'muh articulation.'. Classics Bumblebee is still unsurpassed as a BB toy.

That's the thing I don't get about the current direction. If you're going to make lavishly G1 toys, why Masterpiece? If Masterpiece exists, why take Generations on this path? Literally just budget Masterpiece. Why take Masterpiece to the ridiculous prices they are then? I don't like the lack of presence Cheetor has, but I have to admit, I like him integrating components of Transmetal into the original for something a bit new.

Don't know how you can forget those awful face sculpts, having to deal with the datsuns doors during transformation and jamming the lambos into car mode, the ony things that was better back then was plastic quality and prices.

Based on the fact that they keep making MP, someone must be buying them. I can't speak to why they are keeping that around, but SS86 looks pretty nice so far, depending on price and availability I will probably get most of them to go with my new Quintesson and Allicon and such.
And the lower the price point, the more varied figures they can make, because some little kid's mom will be much more likely to pick up a $15 figure, even if it's a repaint, than a $50 figure of a similar size, engineering and "show accuracy" be damned. If that means I as a collector get a G1 styled Rack 'n Ruin or the Omnibots I'm all for it.

Nah man, the toys have improved, hell you can feel the improvements from just a few years ago, Siege onwards feels meat and nice compared to deluxes from CW, or most generations figures.

You also just complain about the size because you were a kid in the 90s and or ~2006 and was fucking small, probably only had money for like one toy per year.

Also as a non American, fucking 23 bucks for a deluxe is nothing, I reguarly have to deal with deluxes reaching prices around 40 bucks here, so yeah, it's not that fucking bad.

If you mean their more "updated" g1 looks instead of "getting as close to cartoon as possible" then yeah, that's their main strength, and I wish more modern toys would take that approach.

That said the articulation is dog shit on them, which was the style at the time with Cybertron and so on, but I would never trade the new ultra fun figures for classics because they're "bigger"

You can mostly get them from Amazon, if you're real cheap and know it will be mostly covered up you can be cheeky and use transparent small tubs meant for food.

The only reasons to even bother with it are:
1) Bailiff (a remold, and in ugly colors).
2) Prosecutor (doesn't even transform)
3) Kranix (also doesn't transform)
4) Sharkticon (a mere repaint)
5) Judge (also a mere repaint)

I got sucked back in with generations whirl and jetfire. Combiner wars was a good, but too many repaints/remolds, TR and POTP was shit with a few good toys. Seige was fantastic mold wise but the price increase and leader class was bad. ER was pretty much just wave 1 and everything else turned to exclusives or might as well be. Kingdom looks great so far, but they're jacking up the price again and I doubt the distribution will be any better than ER. IF we get kingdom by late spring 2021. Just a good time to end collecting.

What's the point in having a big collection if you can't show it off.

Plus it just makes it easier to access them. I don't have them space so mine are in boxes, and it makes it a pain when I want to take one out and fiddle with it. I wish I could just walk to the shelf, pluck it off and put it back when I'm done.

The MP folds up into the same back kibble size the actual animation model did so I don't see the comparison lining up here.

The Kingdom back kibble is fucking disgusting. You'd think for all the effort they put in to update all the other stuff they're putting out, they wouldn't repeat literally the same shit from the 90s model. I agree, but it turns out that a strong, unique aesthetic is more important to me than ankle tilts or wrist swivels. Guess that's just the kind of collector I am now. You can cry nostalgia or poorfaggotry, but I never collected CHUG back then, AND I paid way too fucking much for Bluetimus and Goldbee. They're both figures I love because of what they are, inherently, flaws and all, and because of that, I never have to worry about replacing them with something "better" or "more accurate".

And really, depending how you mix and match your figures, a lot of older stuff can fit right in with modern stuff.

A con with blue parts and a con with purple parts get turned into cons with the same scheme makes sense
The sweeps being insecticon clones that are reformatted, hence their limited intelligence makes sense
Or alternatively, cyclonus and "Armada" being skywarp and thundercracker with scourge and sweeps being all insecticons make sense
But the script didn't decide who was who at all, thus leaving it up to the storyboard artists, who chose bombshell as cyclonus and thundercracker as scourge

It's definitely a great figure, and that kit has an excellent headsculpt; I did a lot of hunting before settling on this combo.

The thing I especially like about the unique stylization of the older CHUG figures is how well it helps distinguish them as a different character, now, like Goldbug or Magna Convoy. It just helps separate them that much more from their G1 counterparts.

It explodes because a limited part of the first run had manufacturing issues with the assembly inside, causing it to burst. If the one you're buying has no inherent QC issues and you know this, then buy it. It's better than this lump of shit that we just saw and IMO is worth it.

It's from a reputable shop that always reports damaged parts on pre-owned figures so yeah, there's no reported QC issues on the one I found. I was just wondering if it's problems with the actual construction or a production run gone wrong so it's good to hear it's more of the latter.

The shop always reports any damage on pre-owned figures (from missing pieces to stress marks/bad paint) and there's none listed for the one I found. So that's not an issue for me right out of the box which is why I was asking about the nature of the QC issues.

It hasn't occurred since the initial release. It was because the mechanisms inside were installed incorrectly and when it rotated, it would put pressure on the dick part where it normally wouldn't even touch.

Honestly I don't think Kingdom Rexatron really replaces the MP. One is slavishly show accurate and is unlike any other design while this new one is a unique aesthetic with a focus on more modern realistic Dinosaur mode. Yeah there's similarities but ultimately they replace each other as much as >>8455930 replaced the original figure.

I'm still not interested in the MP but I would never say this makes it irrelevant.

In the catloge for the post movie figures, it shows the 3 conehead seekers; Starscream; Scourge (replacing Thundercracker); and Cyclonus ( thus replacing Skywarp)

Storyboards and early scripts said it was Skywarp. Plus Takara has already established that it was Skywarp.

I do wish they would've thought out how the whole making Transformers thing work. It can't be that simple that you just make one, flip the switch, and it's alive. If that's the case, why aren't they making them by the hundreds to bulk up their numbers.

Death felt really meaningless in the Marvel comics. Characters were constantly dismantled or killed and later revived like it was no big deal.

Hell that crazy bitch Circuitbreaker literally dismantled a bunch of Autobots and used their bodies to build a huge exosuit for her. It was later broken down and the Autobots were rebuilt with no problems at all.

It was mostly done to bring any character back easily, but one of the few things they did establish, was that destroying the brain and or having a transformer dismantled without being on proper life support for an extended period, they'd die.

The biggest plothole for this is the big guy himself, Optimus Prime. His first death had his body blown up to the point he couldn't come back, but it gets iffy with the copy since it brings tons of issues (you could make the case that he never left the game in the first place, so he never really died and it explains why they couldn't revive him, but it's never really elaborated upon). His second revival was using the Last Autobots, and that was a special circumstance.
