>>8465496This. I tried for real about 10 years later (had done eBay since the late 90s) and it was just way too late. The margins are way too thin, your orders arrive way too late, shipping is way too expensive, and stuff is landing at Ollies way too often.
Ironically, the only part that works at a small scale is scalping exclusives, which is self limiting because the volume you need to grow would collapse prices. In layman's terms:
A: Buy toy from distributor. 10% margin. 20% costs. Sit on it forever to make a buck or lose money.
B: Scalp exclusives. 100% margin but you might find 1 or 2 per month. Whooptydoo, you make $40/month flipping toys. Or supply runs high enough that demand collapses and you have the above where you have to dump it for half off just to be rid of it.
Sucks but basically much of the collector community is so hung up on getting stuff cheaper from Walmart that the pool of customers willing to pay a little more for any reason is very small and already hooked on places like BBTS.
