I just saw the new mcfarlane space marine the grey one in store and it is huge and it is like only 20 usd.

What was Bandai thinking with their version of the thing? They did not make it into a plastic kit, why?

You can get some of the koto exclusive stuff there too even if anywhere else have already sold out because they have direct access to Koto

GW goes to them and gives them a license to make stuff. The license tells bandai what they can and cant make, you don't just get a license that says, 'here do WHATEVER you want!' I HIGHLY doubt GW gave them rights to model kit making. They may be getting a lot better in running the IP but baby steps for now.

Ya, but those are prototypes while these are the final products. I posted that pic in response to myself, and from what it seems, the marines may not have toe hinges anymore. Maybe it's hidden and we'll see them when someone posts more pics. The Necron definitely has them.

Ultrasmurfs, probably. No real point though since everyone is making them, they're safe and boring. Just go look at the chart of main chapters and pick one that's all one solid color with minimal use of accent colors or decals.

Black templars. Their iconography is easy as piss to mask off to have perfect lines, everything black so no need to worry about what color primer you use. just make sure to do a little bit of dry brushing to add definition to it and not just look like a black blob OC DONUT STEEL from deviantart

All primaris founding legions colors are very easy to do. So any of them actually, because even Space Wolves Primaris don’t have their usual runes/bones/leather around them.

So it is a matter of which color scheme you like the most.

Hory shit never knew a diorama like that existed, it must be glorious in person. Though for a 1/6 scale, Guilliman seems kinda small, I don’t think they got his proportions right.

My favorite mad marines Black templars. Although it feels slighty heretical to not have him in MK.7 armor and without a proper melee weapon. I may just repaint the normal assualt smurf into a templar and the unpainted boy into somone else.

Same as my tabletop army. The sons of the Lion. Already got all the primer and colors I need. It'll be nice to paint something 40k again since I haven't touched 9th edition.

I want to add some robes, a plasma pistol, and see if any of the Ravenwing/Inner circle bits from my pile could make a cool rosary type thing on the belt.

Some things I am surprisingly pleased with, like the ab crunch and how high the legs can lift. Other things, not so much, like the limited neck movement and near-lack of ankle rockers. Overall not bad though, I was prepared for much worse.

Also happy that the shoulder pads pop off easily, let's hope the rest of the figure comes apart similarly easily.

Should be relatively easy to pop apart at the neck (might be able to add more range, too), hips, shoulders. As for the ankles, idk, it seemed like they moved pretty well outwardly, so perhaps the joint on the inside was at a weird angle or something, doesn't seem like it would be able to move better from one side to the next.

Bruh, you fucking wish. GW wants to push their smelly Primaris troops, so you're never gonna see Mks 1-8 in action figure form. Plus, it would introduce stupid scale problems since Primaris are supposed to be bigger and beefier than any of the "old" Space Marines--something which most buyers would not give a shit about but I'm sure GW would.

Space Marines are an easy one to profit on. The one mold already has infinite repaint potential, and can be repackaged with different heads/accessories over and over again. They may well not even be making a profit on this release, just because it's worth the initial investment to make a decent base they can reproduce dozens of times.

My guy (the one that broke the news about the doom slayer) just told me next wave

1x Ork (painted, one cybernetic eye, big gun and sword)
1x Necron (slight remold)
1x Imperial fist space marine (slight remold, no powerfist)
1x Ork AP (no special eye and comes with a smaller pistol)

Terminators and Primarchs aren't likely, since they'd be bigger than regular figures, and Primarchs would be way bigger. We might get deluxe figures later, but not soon, I would image.

Sister of Battle, Chaos Space Marine, AdMech Skitarii, those are all good possibilities.

We know from this wave that McFarlane is coordinating pretty closely with GW, because the Assault Marine and the new Necron also just got brand new model kits. So things like Cadians and Ork Boys, that have very old and outdated kits, I wouldn't expect soon. Those guys will probably come around the time they get new kits from GW. They don't want McFarlane releasing, a Striking Scorpion figure only for GW to release a new Striking Scorpion kit a year later that looks different.

For guys more well versed in 40K, is there significance to the differences in the armours? Like those details under the left knee and near the right foot of the McFarlane, vs the near the left foot of the Bandai. The Bandai one is wrong. The skull on the helmet indicates a Sergeant, but Ultramarine Sergeants also have a red helmet. Sergeants also have a white kneepad, which the Bandai Marine doesn't have. You can see both the red helmet and the white kneepad on the painted Mcfarlane figure

The little details, not really. The miniatures have the markings on the legs, and I think the Bandai does too it's just hard to see in that picture. I think the buttons on the arm are just a thing some of the miniatures have and some don't, for variety. I'd have to check though

That's useless on a Chapter that paints sergeant helmets a different color. Not all Chapters do that, the Dark Angels for example. So it would be neat on a Dark Angel figure. But it's pointless on an Ultramarine

All the old kinds of Space Marines, Terminators included, are still around in 40k. They haven't come out with a non-Primaris Marine unit since the Primaris were introduced, so they probably will eventually get phased out. But not for awhile. The scale issue is kinda weird.

The Primaris equivalent to Terminators is Aggressors.

That is EXACTLY the point. in this game, size of the mini matters in terms of cover mechanics. Substituting/proxy is a thing allowable within a very close allowance last I heard, so by doing this they remove the ability to very easily customize a preexisting marine army to the updated units.

How old are you?
Back in my day, almost every toy was getting unique sculpts, even from companies like Hasbro.

Pretty obvious why they no longer do that and how a private company with higher standards is able to produce mass market toys doing it the old way.

My worry is I'm used to painting the models, will paint chip moving joints? I already seal my minis for travel, but I've never painted a figure that's meant to move afterwards. Is it best to take this thing apart, paint the pieces, seal them, then re-assemble? Is there a different seal needed then 2 clear coats?

I'd like to be able to pose it, but if I end up with a stature I'm not crushed.

Yes. This is inevitable, even on retail toys that paint their joints, and they typically use stronger paints than us too. Use a good topcoat, and be gentle when posing. My recommendation for a high-quality topcoat is Tamiya TS-80 or Mr. Super Clear Flat.

Also yes to taking it apart as much as possible. I'm not yet sure to what extent it can be taken apart, but it will certainly be a struggle if it doesn't come apart much.

I don't see this selling as well. Aside from a few notable standouts in my memory, most Necrons I see just get painted gold/silver/bronze/some other shade of metallic. Not really as diverse or interesting as Space Marine chapters.

How good the figures are won't determine if they'll make more, sales will, and hopefully the quality of the figures encourages purchases. I'd imagine there's at least a wave 2 almost ready to go or get revealed, but beyond that good sales need to happen. As for Orks, that also depends on the direction the line is going. More than likely. It depends on how much clearance the joints have from touching each other. I've never dyed a figure, but I might try dyeing the joints so even if there is any paint rub, the joint won't show flat grey but at most a faded black. I get WHY they went full grey but I kind of wish they made the joints black, if only because the body suit portions that the joints are at, are always black on Space Marines, so that part would be painted black by anyone painting the marine.

Shouldn't be mad about it. What this tells me is that they probably had nothing left after Doomicorn, but that the Doom line is doing good numbers for them, and so they're releasing an extra Doom figure that's a 'chase variant'. Doom is also the first license besides DC that's getting one of these variants, which could be how well they're regarding the line. I think it's a safe bet they're prepping more Doom figures, perhaps a new mold for the Slayer, maybe a Doom Guy based on the costume in the newest games, and some other demons. Could be wishful thinking, but we'll see.

It isn't the most elegant way, but I read that a small layer of superglue works. I tried it, and it absolutely does. That said, be real careful when handling superglue, pour too much and you'll make a mess. Touch it at all before it's ready and you'll make a mess. Pour even a little when the joint is too tight and you'll end up with a non functional joint. Lots of stuff to watch out for, but it gets the job done and won't be a problem if there's enough clearance and you give it ample time to set.

My other method was my varnish, but it unfortunately isn't sufficient to perfectly protect the paint.

Mostly the Ravenwing upgrade sprue. It's a ton of Dark Angels specific icons, replacement parts and little addons. There's a couple Custodes parts as well.

Though, they have new bikes and speeders coming. So I'm sure all of Ravenwing will either no longer get their exclusive bits so GW sells just one kit, or they'll overhaul them years from now telling us to use old items that don't fit.

Appreciate the pic, it should be helpful to many. Given that the construction appears to be the same as their other figures, I assume their legs are as well, in which case they shouldn't be too hard to pull apart and the hips. Some heat would be preferable, but it should be as simple as giving it a tug. The joint there is constructed like a post coming out of the crotch into a socket on the thigh. And the feet should be either the same kind of joint as the wrists (like most of their figures) or a ball and socket (like the Doom Marauder).

Honestly, I'd check ebay, especially if you don't need all the bits. There's several bits shops that may have extras you like as well - Larger scrolls for purity seals, skulls for icons, transfers for symbols if you want smaller ones.

I got both, they are the same size. Bandai has better paint, Mcfarlane feels more solid though and feels like it's made of better plastic. Accessories are a little shittier though. Still, it was $80 less

I don't hate anything about the Primaris design, but I do think they should keep other helmets and armor styles around because a) People liked them and b) More variety. I will say the additions of like real world modern mag pouches and stuff I'm mixed on. One one hand its neat to actually see the ammo they carry, but on the other it doesn't not mesh well with the design or aesthetic of the world.

Even the Lore complaints seem stupid to me. "Ugh how and why did Cawl think he could or should improve on the Emperor's perfect design?!" To which my response would be "You mean the design that had various random genetic flaws in them that ranged from genetic physical mutations to an unquenchable blood lust or the violent rage they go in by having the Psychic Memory of the Death of the Gene Father randomly hit them? That perfect design?" Not to mention the Marines were never a perfect design what with Custodes and the Primarchs being, ya know, a thing.

at the end of the day, my absolute biggest complaint with Primaris is the overly drastic scale differences really makes them too massive imo. It just feels like the chief and primary reason they did this is just to force sales since you can't just be creative with green stuff and add some new bits to the old ones. I have no problems with them wanting more sales, but it just ends up looking weird to see tiny manlet old marines next to these goliaths. Wish the size difference wasn't quite so bad.

I like the detail along the leg armor, cloth, and the backpack. I'm glad they're adding detail where it's impossible on the little minis. Wonder if they'll eventually do like a weapons pack? Sword and shield, the new heavy weapons from 9th, a melta or flamer for the sister.

I agree it is weird since they're supposed to be the same material. In all the art in my codex, it seems to be a very flat, almost leather material. Even their trailer has it appear as a thicker, non-knitted material.

I checked some art out and from what I looked at they material definitely seems cloth like, maybe a bit tattered at the edges, but certainly not textured like they have on the figure. I guess it's just more adding some sculpt detail because they can. And I guess GW was ok with it, unless when non prototype images come out they don't have it anymore. It certainly looks neat, though a bit unfortunate that it doesn't match the arms (or the arms don't match the loin piece).

Not a whole makeover. Just matching my tabletop army of Valorous Heart- black tabard on the outside, white inside, white gloves, then a gold trim on those nice little details they added. For this one I'd prefer their colored one as the joints and armor will already be the color I need.

I hope they offer a helmet-less version. I'm supposed to get my marines tomorrow, so my weekend gets to be full of customization and priming.

Quick shop job, don't take it as fact.

The top comparison is their product images scaled based on the assumption that black base they have is the same size. They look almost the same.

The bottom is their back views, since the bases seemed as close as possible. Marine seems a tad taller.

In lore, a primaris I think is like 2.4 meters, 8.2 feet, tall. In their cinematic trailer, the sister is up to his shoulders. Assuming scale is proper, a marine is about 6.2 heads tall. For easy math, lets say a head is 40cm, she's below that, so say 50cm. A sister should be around 190 cm tall, just over 6 feet.

Minis wise they're about the same scale, so assuming the middle comparison is closer, they're in ok shape.

The more I mess with my Assault Intercessor the more I really like him. Articulation, paint, and qc (only major gripe was chainsword was slightly warped, and a small paint chip on one of the shoulders) were WAY better than I was expecting for a McFarlane. Also he scales fairly well with other 1/12 figures I have so I'm happy about that.

This is how Mcfarlane works. You have to preorder because they support the secondary fat neckbeard scalper market. You buy in advance or everything that hits "retail" that is sought after will be bought by employees/scalpers within days and you pay up. Look at that trash doom figure $90 fucking dollars for a 2020 figure.

Todd lives for this shit, he will produce another wave of the figure with a different accessory and you can repeat the scalping process.

The head is tiny and if he's going to put this figure 3 per case he should have included the bolt rifle. Instead he makes the "chase" figure include the rifle and you have to paint it yourself.

Not to mention as an Ultramarines player NONE of my figures had a red fucking head aside from 1 captain that was barely played. But hey lets make the chase figure blow up in price fuck all the collectors that want an Ultramarine troop. Pay up pig.

Probably not. I just get this feeling that generic simple rank and file soldiers aren't really Todd's style. Plus I feel like they wouldn't be able to match the scale because they are using a weird 7 inch scale instead of an actual proper size scale.

How big is that GI Joe? I think the Sister being a whiff taller than that would be perfect. If it reaches up to the Space Marine's 'ears' then that's definitely way too big.

Hes roughly in the 6 inch 1/12 scale. Bravo, and the Synthetic Human are around 5.8-5.9 inches tall give or take. So the Primaris is roughly 7 inches tall, and it may not be 100% accurate, but for my shelf Id say it works well enough.

WRONG. Games Workshop will be happy because they sold enough for the first wave to pay the license. In reality they promised a trash Captain that is actually smaller than the unpainted version. Wave 2 includes a proper Ultramarine that dwarfs the Captain and a minuscule Sisters of Battle with a goddamn helmet.

I've played SoB off and on since 4th. I'd say 1/3 of my old pewters have helmets. The new stuff I change it up - seraphim and zephyrim get helmets. Retirbutors too. Average sister? Nah, I enjoy a troop line of bob cut nuns.

It's the first wave dude, calm down. They're all based on the trailer and the big initial units featured - an order of our martyred lady sister, a Necron Warrior, an ultramine primaris and the ultramine assault intercessor. The necron is getting it's unpainted version, granted WALMART is the one jacking up the price. I'd assume the painted regular marine is in wave 2 as well.

Most likely, as others have mentioned characters from the trailer are getting priority and since some guardsmen show up in that I imagine they're on the list, maybe even as a part of wave 2 with the sister if McFarlane's gonna expand the waves?

Realistically it will be of the female guardsmen in the pic but I hope they include the masked head and backpack like the guy on the right so it can be a true army builder, I wouldnt mind if it cost a little extra like $5 more.

I'm pretty sure that was cured. Unless I'm misremembering the Chapter Master of an Angel successor chapter tells Dante as much and has a problem with them being that different.
