If anything, I'd say tabletop usually handles it better then movies, video games, comics, etc, I've seen way, way more accurate minifigs of aztec soldiers with proper armor and warsuit designs, emblems, banners, etc then I have in any other medium
In fact some figure painting guides I've seen are some of the most useful resources on shield, banner, and warsuit patterns'/designs i've seen, and I say that as somebody who reads actual academic papers on Mesoamerican stuff
