Shipping from import sites during Covid thread.

Anybody else notice Mandarake charges more for DHL than any other store for no reason? Is there a way to get places to pack things so that shipping is cheaper? Do you not care at all and maybe I’m just a dumbass?

It’s driving me crazy but of all places, it seems Mandarake completely rips me off for DHL and I can’t tell why. I can buy pounds and pounds of stuff from AmiAmi and get charged like $30 for shipping, then I’ll buy a single figure from Mandarake and they insist it’ll be over $50.

I learned DHL is based off volume I’m pretty sure, so I bought a single Figma from Mandarake for $30 and the invoice said DHL was going to be $60. At the same time, I had an order from AmiAmi for two Figma figures, three JoJo SAS’s, and a stupid giant plush doll and it came out to $35 for DHL.

So both orders come, AmiAmi used a decent sized box and perfect packing supplies, while Mandarake used a box a small human could fit inside with like a solid pound of bubble wrap inside for just one figure.

I reach out to them now and ask if they can use smaller boxes, they’ll do it sometimes and then change shipping from $50+ to sometimes as low as $15, but they act like I’m insane for asking or just ignore me.

Why do they do this and is there a way to get them to stop being stupid lol

That's because some retailers are covering some of the shipping costs to offset a better price for the consumer. Mandarake being an outlet has decided not to do this and charges the consumer the full amount. Ami ami and Okini Island are doing you a favor.

In my experience it depends on the Manda store. Sahra uses pre-calculated shipping which always ends up batshit expensive for me. I bought a small figure (a few inches tall, no box) from a "normal" Manda store and DHL was about $15. Similar items from Sahra estimated $30 DHL.

EMS is returning for burgers when ordinary air flight between the US and Japan returns to previous levels. I had a package stuck at the post office during the limbo when they weren't accepting new packages and were just trying to clear the backlog. That took months, so I don't think it's going to be back to normal any time soon.

I have multiple orders being "held" because I normally opt for the cheaper shipping options that take long. Im the kind of guy that is willing to wait multiple months for 10 dollars less, as long as I know it's coming and my mind is clear I don't really give a fuck.

i've only ever used DHL. global shipping for 30% more unless the size or weight is excessive and i get it in less than a week, most of the time in 3-4 days from japan to east coast USA.

What I'm worried about is with AE where you have to generate a shipping request and then your options are basically set in stone. I'd like to know beforehand what I'm looking at to ship a random SHF or Takara TransFormer. I have a ballpark idea form before but that was EMS and SAL so DHL could be ridiculous, on top of which, they've been unreliable enough in the past as to when or even if I'll receive anything that I wouldn't be considering them at all if there were ANY alternatives.

In my recent experience, the shipping costs on Mandarake vary from store to store. I have been quoted US$15, $25 and $45 from different stores for the same figure.

DHL have a monopoly on international shipping and they know it. Every time I have to use their shipping method they make me pay the shipping fee, a "processing fee" and an "import fee" even though my country doesn't have import taxes on small goods and small lots of toys.
They are the only shipping method where the shipping is the same as half the cost of the figure, sometimes more.

Fuck you DHL.
