I got it yesterday and it's better than I expected. The hair isn't seated perfectly, though; I think the plastic on one side got slightly warped so it doesn't sit flush along the side of his face next to his ear. To be honest it makes his hair look slightly more natural if anything.

I can see why some people complained about the sculpt of the hair. It's a little too flat and overly symmetrical. I understand why they're doing the two pieces thing, but in this case it makes me wonder if they wouldn't have arrived at more natural looking hair if they had simply sculpted it in one piece and didn't have to worry about fitting one part on top of another. Maybe not, though. Cool figure either way. Maybe the RotJ Han and Luke will turn out better than they look at a glance, too.

I warned everybody it was going to be carbonite. While I want it to come with it, each unlock is just shit that was more or less supposed to come with the ship in the first place, and then the marketing team pretending that it's some kind of add-on. That was only because the Cloud City facility wasn't that great. Vader calls it crude and Lando specifically points out that it's used for tibanna gas and might kill Luke if he's frozen, hence why Vader wanted to test the facility's abilities with Han.

That's what Hasbro Pulse is for. They do that with Transformers, but haven't really expanded to other toy lines with it yet. And they're not doing it for Star Wars in my opinion, or at least not for TVC, because they probably feel that they'd sell even less figures than they already sell for TVC at retail.

The idea in ESB was to test it on Han to make sure it was a viable means of transferring prisoners to use on Luke later. It worked out and apparently becomes a common tactic by the time of The Mandalorian.

Carbon freezing people was already a thing during the Clone Wars. Anakin and his team froze themselves to sneak into a prison. In ESB, the facility was just a crude one that was setup to only freeze gas. If the process couldn’t be used on life forms, I don’t think there would have been a built in way to check vital signs on the slab.

TVC is a lost cause at this point. So many figures could use outright new versions but that will never happen because of how many people collect simply to check a name off of a list. I was happy to hear the line was coming back when it was announced, but I wish they had simply started over now. That said, more TVC Mandalorian figures were a given.

Tons of figures could use updates. TVC had plenty of figures that were old and/or mediocre even the first time around, like the RotS Obi-Wan that had been repacked a couple times even before its TVC release, and ultimately goes back to RotS's line in 2005. When the line was great it was great, but it's had its share of repacks and blunders from the start.

I just mean that by the late 2000s they really should have picked up on that and leveled the playing field. And TVC was so strange about what figures got proper legs and which didn't, like Wicket got proper hips but a lot of the human figures didn't.

I guess that's why Black Series became so much more popular.

Doesn't count. A vehicle figure would have to be at least slightly different so people didn't feel like they were doubling down. Like the Sandtrooper that came with the dewback had a different colored pauldron and a different dirt wash.

Both of those were at least a year apart, as I recall. The re-dos were part of the ANH 40th.

I can think of a few TVC molds that look pretty good, even compared to Black Series molds. Especially some of the earlier Black Series molds. Where I think the line has constantly suffered is weird, inconsistent articulation. The fact they're actually giving the fingers better ankles is more impressive to me than that the sculpt is good.

Hasbro has the technology to make really great figures with 3D scanning and digital sculpting and face printing tech. They just usually save it for 6-inch figures, because of the greater profit ratio of $20 vs $13 for TVC.

Those face sculpts aren't that much better -- if at all -- than some of the ones we'd already seen in TVC. The Jedi Knight Luke is pretty solid, but even that likeness is pretty weird with the hair. But admittedly even the 6 inch version isn't stellar.

Thank God, we're getting yet another Boba Fett. Not like there aren't still Kenner figures that haven't been revisited in ages and are due for an update, like Lobot, Cloud City Guard, General Madine, or Pruneface, or figures that haven't been made in eons like Owne and Beru or the Mos Eisley bartender.

I get it, Boba Fett and Vader and Clones and Stormtroopers sell. But there are figures that haven;t been updated in forever. Instead of giving up yet another of a character we've gotten 20+ versions of, couldn't Hasbro give us some that haven't been offered in ages?

Got my two electrostaff purge troopers today. Had a shoulder pad pop off one but they're just super glued on so it was a easy fix. they're mainly old clone trooper repaints, with a new head,belt and weapon. Being the old body the articulation is a bit limited, even though they're double jointed. Overall not bad, and they look good flanking Second Sister.

I've never preordered figures from Amazon (that I remember...), but I have ordered figures from Amazon and can confirm they can be responsible for some reckless packing, especially with multiple items. This is -- ironically -- also true for books, where it's naturally much more concerning. If you order one item you can expect it in a cozy little box, but if you order multiple items (especially of multiple types/shapes) all hell can break loose in there; they rarely do a good job with padding.

They actually did this back when TVC first got cancelled. They tried to a rebranded version of Legacy Collection complete with new build-a-droids, which got canned before it was released (though the original wave was eventually released as an Amazon exclusive) and was reworked into the original Black Series. Cardfags complained loudly from day one and remanded the return of TVC, even though the figures being released were of the exact same quality. It didn't matter, they needed their vintage cards. Black Series started suffering when it became Walmart exclusive and became largely repacks with a handful of new sculpts, and cardfags believed that if TVC returned somehow it would fix everything. Then TVC was finally revived and Hasbro still continued to just do largely repacks. Some of them still haven't realized that the cardbacks aren't the problem and Hasbro's philosophy isn't going to magically improve just because of the vintage cards, and others don't give a shit because they literally only care about the cards and are more than happy to buy the same figure they've already bought four times before because this time it's on a new cardback they haven't bought before.

tl;dr: Cardfags are the cancer of the collecting community

I can see the appeal in making new figures for a discontinued line, but I can't really get into the Kenner Retro ones for Star Wars, since modern 1:18 Star Wars figures are the successor of the vintage 70's and 80's figures. I don't really want the retro figures because TVC exists. I can own better sculpted, better articulated figures. Retro is aiming at a much more niche interest-- middle-aged collectors and perhaps hipster types.

I don't think it would make much of a difference to the line overall. When they announced the return of the line I was (foolishly) assuming they would tackle it with renewed vigor, but they obviously didn't. And there's pretty much always been some continuity from line to line; even when TVC started in 2010 it was hardly a fresh break. It came out of The Saga Collection and The Legacy Collection, and as such included plenty of repacks. See >>8507852.

I actually like the vintage cards even though I do not keep or collect the packaging, but I don't think it's much of a burden to the quality of the figures themselves either way. Most 3.75" collectors aren't that bothered either. The line existed before the vintage cards, after all. 3.75" figures just aren't as popular anymore, and Hasbro haven't done much to change that because they don't need to and there's probably not much they can do.

I don't think 6" can ever fully replace 3.75", solely because army-building in 6" is such an inherent shitfest. In terms of 'main' characters like Luke, Vader, etc. 6" is probably winning in sales at this point, but 3.75" is still going to be the definitive scale for troopers, because getting 10+ of the same 6" stormtrooper and having the space to set them on just isn't very practical, relative to doing the same thing with 3.75".

Probably not? I think there's some legal discretion however that the courts allow when it comes to businesses like this. I know there's been cases where people tried to sue because some $1,000 item was accidentally listed as a penny, or some shit like that, and the court sided with the businesses. I think Gamestop might be able to change it if they notify the person and give them the choice on if they still want to buy it, however, that's sketchy and possibly debatable on the legality. This is really quite a fuck-up that I could see being argued in court if enough people wanted to join a class action law-suit.

I'd need to be more aware of the situation, but there could be a problem. Most places would cancel the order, or inform the buyer about the change in the price to confirm if they're still interested. Raising the price without informing the buyer would be a problem since there's nothing stopping them from pulling this stunt with something way more expensive, not to mention that's not the amount agreed upon on purchase. Imagine ordering a new console, only to suddenly find they charged you $200 more out of nowhere.

This is just how fucked up the action figure market is. If you opened a wholesale account with a distributor, you wouldn't get anywhere near $13. Maybe $18 plus shipping. Plus, if they send smashed packaging (which despite their contempt for packaging, AKA "worthless cardboard trash," rippers will happily use as an excuse to weasel a discount), they tell you to fuck right off. So for a small business starting up, it usually makes more sense to hit up these sales where the stores are doing 20%-40% off than go the "legitimate" route.

I guarantee the half these sales that didn't go to poorfag coupon clippers went to resellers. And if they're smart, they'll cancel and stick GameStop with what will ultimately end up being unsellable trash.

Meanwhile the cad bane wave is apparently in stores, since a lot of places were putting them out too early by mistake, but if you buy any of those figures online you're likely to get a ship date of november or december.

Got the exclusive armorer, she looks good and the bigger forge weapons are nice but the softgoods shawl looks like a dead wookie. You can also put the mandos helmet on other figs, but the visor isn't painted. Probably not worth the extra tenner but oh well.
