however they have admitted that the internet more or less means their desires were completely moot, and thus for the big 15th anniversary last year or so ago, they officially removed that media black out curtain. they had all the black dragons shown at the end of their size comparison video for the first time ever, had stuff talking about them in a museum exhibit, had Fatalis in a crossover event with dragalia lost, so on and so forth.
so marketing and merch regarding them is now WIDE open. sky is the limit
and yes safi jiva is not a Black Dragon and never intended to be. he is part of some other legendary elder dragon grouping.
