So I begrudgingly need to get rid of my collection. I don’t have the energy to start up my own Bricklink store. Does anybody know if it’s possible to find the stores closest to me? I want to see if any store owners are willing to buy me out of my collection. I can narrow down all the stores to my state (Ohio) but I just want to know who’s physically closest to me to make it easier.

Remember when lego mechs were fun and exciting? Exo force used to be amazing even if the sets were designed poorly back then. Now almost every original lego theme is oversaturated with mechs.

I bought a sealed box of this set a couple years ago. it's a nice build but the included rubber bands were pretty much useless, and I've yet to get replacements for those.

Can someone help me with those Lego mystery poly bags? I know with Hot Wheels you can look on the back and there's a number printed that will give away exactly what it is. Does such a trick exist in Lego, as well? If so, how? I haven't been able to find anything on Google.

Thanks, and looking good! I had fun enlarging the picture and quickly scrolling back and forth between the frames to see the changes. I just noticed the UFO while writing this post, nice.
The trolls fig was actually the first thing I built, I was looking in my minifig bin and found it, and then saw Mojo Jojo who uses a similar head but with a dome brick on top. Put the two together...

I owned pic related and I found it disappointing. The pump never launched the martians all the way to the exit, and the set itself doesn't have much else to it other than a cool mech and a really basic plane. It does take up a ton of space, so if you have a ton of other sets, they can look nice. I wish I got one of the cool mechs instead.

I am a displayer. I enjoy building it then leave it out a few weeks, then I put it back in its box and don't touch it for a 10 months. for me the most fun is building, but I like building sets that are fun and interesting then trying to put them together in a street build.

Nah, I'll I have is assembly square, Parisian restaurant, detective's office and brick bank. I just grabbed this image because I liked the integration. I snuck away and now its time for me to order though, getting corner garage because I think it goes really good with the corner of assembly square.

I really need to go back and rebuild my LoM collection. One of my favorite themes for sure. Only had the smallest sets with Altair and Vega, plus that monowheel, and then the red/blue mecha. All I've got now is the blue one though, anyone able to recommend good sets from the theme?

I bought a zombie shark from a HK seller.

Normally I wouldn't buy anything from Chinese sellers because it's likely bootleg, but Bricklink has fairly strong safeguards to prevent chinkbricks from getting passed off as genuine Lego.

Oh my gosh I can't believe people also missed this series. I'm happy to see most the sets didn't inflate in value but also kind of sad because it doesn't seem like people appreciated the line.

Right now I'm making a modular outpost for the humans and I'm hoping to incorporate that sliding cart system they used in the Sentai Fortress as a way to transport things around the base.

So tell me LG - what were they thinking when they made Exploriens?
As some of you already know I'm a pretty big fan of 80s and 90s Lego Space. It's what I mostly collect and enjoy doing MOCs of.
Still, this theme (which I even had a set of as a kid) completely baffles me.
The figures look great, their suits have amazing prints (for the time) and having two helmet molds is great.
Then there's the sets. Some of them are not as bad as others but honestly with the exception of one or two sets I really can't get what they were trying to do with the aesthetic here.
It looks a lot weirder than a lot of the CS sets (and with CS that works because they're looking for that 50s,60s and early 70s sci-fi movie space aesthetic) - but here, I just don't follow.
The sets feel disjointed somehow, and I don't think there's a worse offender than this one.
6856 is odd - the only thing it has going for it is the telescope assembly at the top which I imagine was the thing they first built.
So, did any of you guys have these? What's your opinion of them?
I honestly feel I may need to MOC/rework most of the sets once I get them in order to get them in a state I could be happy with.

They used to have dot codes, so like if you're ever in 2011 you can look those up. You can look on the back to see production codes if you want to tell if they were from the same or similar boxes. Doesn't really help you cheat. The best way to get the one you want is to buy it from your friendly, local, second hand Lego store. Or buy it online.

Lol I was just looking at exploriens the other day and reminiscing. I had everything but the android base, the ship, and one of the smaller ships I think. Even then I ended up finding it all to be really boring and disappointing; after the scorpion tank, I was done with the theme.

It was basically just a rerelease of classic futuron, and Lego had already blown the fuck out of futuron with all the unique lines that came after it.

Case in point: Would you rather have generic explorer space guys, or space police, or space marines (unitron), or ice planet, or spyrius?

Also Roboforce was out at the same time, and Roboforce is infinitely more colorful and interesting. I still really hate that I missed out on that one robo-dinosaur.

I'm not questioning this, but still parts must be very stressed there. It seems like two massive parts are connected by few thin parts.

Thank being said, the theme was pretty shitty due to lack of mid-sized spaceships.Only 1 massive and few small or even polybag-sized ones.

got this from aliexpress after waiting roughly 9 weeks for it to ship. took me 4 days to build. even though it makes me an absolute heathen, i'd rather pay 60 for a knockoff than 500+ for the real thing.
it's wonderful and its a great build for the season. i'm going to tear it down and rebuild every halloween

surprisingly good. the only tangible warping was in 1 of the 4 or 5 baseplates, i forget how many there were. and this one came with the stickers which most comments i saw for other sellers complained they didn't get. the arms in all the figs are pretty solid if not very solid, some of the legs are a slightly looser fit, but i gotta say, money well spent in my opinion.
this is the only knockoff set i own and it's likely to be the only one, but it was worth selling my lego soul.
apparently i got lucky, i was going to post the exact store name and item... but theyre no longer available...

I like that there's so many colors now but I also hate that there's so many that there's not enough room on Benny's SSS to fit them all. 3 in cockpit, 2 on small fighters and maybe 2 on the control center but even then you can't close the hatch because spacedude is bit too tall to fit there properly

Nothing really tops the Futuron monorail though. And I like future lines, but Futuron is maybe one of the strongest themes because of the number of sets it had. It's very well established, I wouldn't say any theme that came after "blew the fuck out of it".
To answer that - I'd honestly have generic space guys. Because they can be anything. IP2002 is cool though.
Regarding Spyrius - recently got almost all their sets, expect pics and some impressions in the coming month(s?).
Roboforce looks cool, I got one of the sets -2153, I'll build it and see what's up.

Lore for Insectoids was all over the place, only consistent thing is that they live in some planet infested with giant insects so they madeinsect-looking vehicles, harvest crystals and are originally from Zotax (the planet of aliens from UFO). For this one you really have to headcanon it. For instance, characters have two sets of official names(Navigator Sharp~Gypsy Moth), which I integrated as the former being their Zotaxian name and the latter the one they took after the migration.

I disagree completely. The Unitron Monorail tops it quite spectacularly. It's my Lego holy grail. I actually even have the futuron monorail (though slightly incomplete). It's neat for what it is, but the Unitron version has so much more personality.

I see where you're coming from, and appreciate the level of imagination involved, but I honestly prefer the specialized designs of the 90s over even the beloved classic space boys of the 80s. I know that's heresy in some circles, and they do still hold a special place in my lego heart, but those Space Police 2 figs, that one spyrius android (Major Kartofski), the Unitron Chief, Commander Cold! They're just so much more interesting and soulful to me.

Really, I think it's all just going to come down to nostalgia, and which side of the gen x/gen y divide your on.

Did anyone like Insectoids? I remember being very disappointed with the line when I saw the sets on the shelves.

It always 'bugged' me that they just kinda revamped other space theme's vehicles by adding some grasshopper legs and/or bug wings. It struck me as lazy, and uncreative.

They should have gone for an Insector X/Zoids type thing and just made big robot space bugs with lasers and cannons attached. Which I guess they kinda did with one or two of the sets. The Arachnoid Star Base kinda meets that description.

I loved it, but I was a dumb kid. Thought the transparent parts mixed with the blue and gray color scheme were dope. Loved the McGuffin piece as well. The minifigs were some of my favorites. Thanks anon. Though I never bothered to see the movie, I really enjoyed the Lone Ranger sets. They gave me a lot of great Western figures and great Union Soldiers specifically. The only thing I didn't like about Lone Ranger sets were the revolvers. I'm glad Lego dropped them in favor of their old mold. I've been putting together a few Confederates too. The confederates are not finalized here so definitely looking for some feedback. Their uniforms were much more varied so they ended up with a little more variety.

I think that LEGO will eventually upgrade Bricklink. I'm pretty sure they were more interested in the community/software than they were in the store itself.

Well, I guess I'll have to at some point get the Unitron one and compare - it does look good, but not sure how it will be once I get my hands on it.
I like Unitron, I really do, problem is the theme was SO underdeveloped. I don't have any of their stuff yet, but I plan to collect them as well. Eventually I plan to have all CS sets and all of the 90s space sets. Slowly, I'm getting there.

Regarding factions - it isn't heresy, I just prefer not having my figures come with "good guy", "bad guy", "space marine" tags and instead have the room to build my own stories for them.
I grew up without lore for most of the factions I had (Spyrius, Exploriens, Aquanauts, Insectoids) so I made my own - and I feel that's the right way to go. Maybe it's nostalgia.
I don't say the figures aren't soulful, they were and still are, just that I don't like them coming with "tags".
It's why I dislike the fact that when SP1 was introduced Blacktron became "the bad guys" while before they were just a faction and not necessarily good or evil.
Oddly enough, I grew up with 90s Space and had no 80s space until I started collecting back in 2016.

I like it a lot. Probably a bit biased since I was an astronomy buff in college, and love seeing an observatory in a set, but it's honestly very well designed overall.

It's pretty close in design to the monster hunters vampire castle actually, so if you missed out on that then it's a decent substitute.

As far as I can tell it's official that the two themes are the same species, and the backstories that mention the Insectoids fleeing from an oppressive ruler don't say outright that it was the UFO guys. Lego uses a poly-cotton broadcloth, but you can use any type of textile from a local hobby store. You got to give it an acrylic coating otherwise it'll get destroyed easily. You can soak the cloth in a warm solution of water/gelatin to make it stronger. Then you just cut it out. I used a nail to cut out the hole. I'm not the best at crafts stuff, but I can look for something I made in the past with this. It doesn't feel soft like a cape, but it has the same look, and the rigidity is nice if you want to do custom stuff like trenchcoats.

There are also eight jillion stores on etsy/lego shops that make custom shops.

*Custom capes
The blue bases are capes that I've made with the type of fabric used for dresses, the authetic silver base is an official cape from Chamber of Secrets, the transparent green base is 3rd party (I think, not sure), and the last one is from a vendor.

You can just use spray starch. Cover the cloth before you cut it and it should hold up fine. In a pinch you can use mod podge.

Most of what I've seen is from the perspective of adult fans who aren't in the target demographic for "design a mario level and use your imagination to decide how mario navigates it before time runs out"
A lot of reviews say they don't know how long the novelty of the gameplay would last before it gets boring, but the perspective of kids could be completely different with a lot more room for imaginative play. And naturally they can still roleplay narrative scenarios with mario and the other characters without activating the coin collecting minigame too

I'd recommend getting some rechargeable batteries to eliminate that ongoing cost, even just in general not specifically for lego mario

I got a few blind bags of the Mario bad guys just to test if they'd care and they started creating levels out of the random lego sets we have already so for the most part kids are pretty good at that part. I just didn't want to go in on this if it ended up being buggy or weird with whatever it uses to tell what it's bouncing on. But if reviewers arn't complaining about that then it can't be bad.

Thank you. My money would still be better off getting them more Lego Girls stuff but at least they'll have memories of that time Lego did a weird Mario set.

The mario device works by using an accelerometer to detect when you bounce it up and down (to make walking sounds, jump, climb etc), and an image sensor which can detect primitive colors (red is lava, green is grass, blue is water) as well as special enemy contacts that work like QR codes. I haven't heard of any issues with the recognition being dodgy - on the opposite, you can print out more copies of the symbols to create additional enemies/objects of your own

The powerup suits work by the suit plastic having certain interior notches that activate a particular combination of switches which the mario device recognises as being a certain ability

He is, I've asked toy store employees about and they've had so many parents etc. complain about how vague LEGO was about mentioning you NEED the starter pack first. Like it's an actual game with DLC.

For what it's worth, lego did adapt the language of "Starter course" and "Expansion set", with the expansion sets including the tagline "Expand your starter course" and only showing a greyed out mario with "lego mario is not included" nearby.
Of course all of that can still go unnoticed by those who are uninitiated, but an attempt was made to convey the information

I build my modulars using online instructions and my own parts collection. After the middle and right ones, I bought a bunch of windows and doors on bricklink since they were the big thing I was missing. I like the unique look, but most of all, I like that they're almost free.
