>>8514254>Why we don't have good Star Trek toys?Every time we have Trek treads on /toy/ this exact same question is raised and the answer is the same...
Because Star Trek is dead and Scott Kurtzman was the one who killed it. "Discovery" went full woke, "Picard" fucked with one of the most beloved characters from the franchise. And "Lower Decks" is just hopping on the "Rick & Morty" bandwagon in a desperate attempt to keep Trek relevant. It didn't work.
As for toys, the last major Trek toyline was 2009's movie line, which bombed big time at retail, despite the movie's popularity. I guess making 3 different scales of the same 5 characters wearing the exact same outfit wasn't the smartest move on Playmate's part.
The rumor is that no toy manufacturer wanted to touch "Discovery" due to the toxic backlash it garnered from fans. Mcfarlane had a Q&A during the release of the Kirk & Picard figures seen in OP's pic. When asked about Disovery, McFarlane stated that they considered making a prop Discovery phaser pistol, but canceled it because they were sure it would not be carried by retailers. So far, the only Discovery merch is a couple Eaglemoss ships and an Aurora model. Both of which cater to a very niche audience and not the mass market plebs.
Star Trek is dead, Jim.
