The knees front and center don't look great there. I wonder why they're not just working a joint into the back of the knees. Also, it's neat and looks like a fun figure, but I've really no need for a Joker like that. Also Batman and Joker are so stylistically different from Harley that they look real weird all together. She's so out of place.

With Grodd basically anything works. He doesn't really have a costume, he's just a gorilla, so he could be wearing whatever he wants at any point. Really looking forward to grabbing this guy.

If the armor is even somewhat removable that would lead to even more options, but it's probably molded on. I really like the Flash too, it looks solid, though I wonder if they'll add the rest of the gold to the costume. As is it looks quite a bit like the CW Flash's costume because of how simple it is.

I think it goes both ways. If we look at Figma with their large disk knees, they get pretty good range but it looks absurd when you can see those disks (and on the elbows too), while a double knee tends to be better integrated from the back, and when done well, from the front (continuing the sculpt, not having a weird looking floating knee piece, etc). And if the range on a single knee reaches as far as a double, there will usually be problems with the sculpt. I think AY All Might handles one of these problems well, but from the front, as with this joker but less so because with him it kind of just looks like pants) it's a bit too smooth, and of course the floating knee cap that happens on some of these.

I don't know, 2 joints give you twice the angle you'd get with a single joints and they can look good if you sculpt them right like most imports, it was a natural solution I think.

But it's always awesome to see single joints that work because they were well engineered and the sculpt allowed it.

Looks nice and accurate to the comic, and could potentially lead to a Bane, but idk, it just doesn't seem that interesting. Maybe it's the lack of shading that Batman had, but it looks like it has no depth via shading or sculpt, which looks quite soft, especially those unpainted pouches.

Besides White Knight, cartoon, and video game designs, the rest are using a pretty universal look. The artist specific look is way toned down in the Last Knight wave, and otherwise things mostly have a generic look to them, with a recognizable appearance, but not really a specific artist to their style.

Sorry that not every line can reuse all the molds to get a really uniform look.

Looks all wrong.

sculpt looks too soft. It doesn't look like the suit is made of metal.
I'm not sure if the abdomen is supposed to be metal either.

Could be jsut be because it's shitty photo of a photo though.

The choice was bad, but the execution was pretty good. The face sculpt is really well done. It's sharp, expressive, and well proportioned.
It gives you an idea of what a good superman from them would be like. If they can do a big stupid joker grin, they can do a regular smiling superman.
I hope they use the same body and get the guy who did this head to do a normal superman.

It hasn't been put up yet. I believe it was meant to be put up for preorder along with those early 2021 items in November or December. Only people who have it appear to be overseas or received early samples for review. Not sure why they'd be available overseas but not even up for preorder yet over on this side of the world.

I don't think all the Superman figures are bad, at least, not inherently.

The DCC Icons nu52 Superman is GREAT, because it's detailed just like the nu52 comic art... but it's fucking nu52 shit.

The DCC Icons Superman from the Doomsday pack is also great, but it's battle damaged and not that great for just being a general Superman toy.

There's also Mezco's Red Son Superman, which is one of the best figures ever, but that's not really Superman.

There's also the movie figures, which are great... but they're fucking Syndershit.

Hawkman's gotta show up at some point, no way they make those wings and then not have plans for other winged characters. Maybe when Black Adam is closer to coming out. I can picture that movie getting us a fair few JSA characters, Fate is an obvious one.

I do wonder why they're using mostly parts from AC1000 when they have the new mold (though I guess there are a lot of sculpted details that wouldn't be accurate. Hopefully a clean one is made soon which can be used for other Supes.

They're all canonical, at least, and I've seen some people post that they're excited for them, so that's something for them, I guess. No they weren't. I have the single JL members MIB and some of them like Superman and Wonder Woman have crappy-af faces. The articulation could also be a lot better but the accessories are top-notch in my eyes. Hasbro would have taken Deluxe-tier prices for those figures and McFarlane is already offering mostly good accessories (could be more hands imo).

McFarlane is perfectly fine. You also have to consider that those figures have been on store shelves for like a year AND they have improved a lot since the first wave. As long as they pay attention to the articulation, I think they can't go wrong

I feel like you're free to like it, but it's pretty objectively bad looking, especially in that picture, and if it can't stand with its legs slightly apart without looking bad, odds are it can't do a whole lot without looking bad.

Batman heavy sure, and this "jokerized" stuff is just happening now, and it all has roots in canon. It's also a means to get some filler waves and re-use in. As long as there's other stuff too that's fine with me. More is coming, but the line will always be Bat heavy, given that he's the biggest DC character by a wide margin (then Supes of course, of which a fair bit is coming as well).

I’m not the anon you replied to, but I have the same sensibilities. I love DC. I love their long history of crazy and unique characters. There’s no way McFarlane is going to even come close to the multitude of D list characters that DC Classics gave us.

It is cool that he’s making all these unique Batmen, but it’s annoying they’re taking up spots in a DC line when he should just make a Batman line for them.

This is a WB and DC mandate, btw, "make more Batman". Even the Spin Master line is divided in two, Batman and DC. It's just how they do business. Mattel obviously wasn't making enough money and DC decided to let them go, and now they have these 2 companies listening to what they think is best for the line. As Todd has said, be very compliant early on, and maybe down the line he and his team will build that trust with WB and DC and they'll have some more independence. I think 2021 is the start of that. If by the time 2021 is over and we still have minimal variety and just a bunch of A-listers, then I'll say sure, Batman it is. I want variety too, but what WB and DC want is what sells. Would some random D-lister sell as well as Batman 33? I honestly think that's what they're trying to show, that if you execute the character right, it'll sell. That said, I'm sure Todd loves Batman and is happy to keep making more, but he also loves other characters (he name drops Dr Fate every interview, for example, and Tye name drops Etrigan among others) and I think they'll be coming in time.

People can point to DCUC all they want, but the line was completely outdated shit when it was being released. So it didn't matter if they were producing a wide variety of toys, because their efforts were shit. Plus, that was like a decade ago. After nu52, they killed the DCUC line for whatever the new lines were called.
Modern Mattel was basically doing the same shit that Hasbro did, and that's focusing on current movies and storylines. So it's no different than what McFarlane has been doing in their 9 months of releasing DC figures.

I feel like it's because they had very superheroic proportions, and also they look pretty good in a vanilla stance. It's when you factor in articulation do you truly see how lackluster the figures are (though as toys for kids they're solid). Meanwhile the older Legends, pre Bucky Cap, tended to be real gangly, and also had lackluster articulation. Random side note, I really wish someone on the McFarlane team would express that so much sculpt on the back of the figures' legs is unnecessary, and that if they did the figures would be able to all fully use their thigh swivels. It wouldn't affect the aesthetics at all (besides if you have the leg fully extended and looking at it from under, but come on...).

I remember I basically cut the asscheeks off of a couple of their fortnite figures, and yep, they moved like butter after that. I really am loving this line, but it's such a weird choice to build the articulation into the joints, and then cover it up with sculpt as policy. I've also done the razor blade method where you just chop the thigh right at where the joint is, and make it swivel from there. And this is all re-inventing the wheel stuff too, it's not like nobody's figured out how to do good looking hips with swivels.

But of course, because of the excess amounts of sculpt, it doesn't, for the most part because there are some that work quite well, work as intended. I've done the same to some Fortnite figures, and yep, works great.

But thigh swivel hate or not (which I get, especially when it's on bare musculature since it becomes spinning meat), that inner thigh swivel exists, so it should be usable. With that, the hip setup would be functionally excellent, as for the most part they get really get forward and outward motion.

Alright, Azrael is cool. Glad I got him. Cape works well and doesn't get in the way, good articulation... though his arms pop out pretty easy. They go right back in, though.

Between him, Devastator and Batman Who Guns, I'm officially impressed with McFarlane's DC stuff. Alllllll Batmaned out for a while, though. Unless they give us an update of Kenner's Viking Batman, I think I'll hold off on getting more until they releass some non-bats I like.

I personally prefer the red Azrael. Of the figures released I think he's probably who I think is the strongest overall in terms of sculpt, articulation, paint, etc.

No, only White Knight was stylized. Last Knight, as we previously saw, is a more grounded style that fits in with the rest of the line. Frankly we don't really have a set precedent, so we'll have to see what the next sub-wave for a specific story looks like.
