You won't make it melt. They don't get hot enough. They're made for pointing at human heads. It's safe. Plastic melts at like 300°. C'mon.

You don't need to pull it apart really, it tends to get into all the seams and creases. I just pour out acouple dabs in a small bowl and apply it to the joints with a toothpick.
