Recently found out Aaron Archer of Transformers fame had worked on the 90's Kenner Batman toylines. This particular figure was meant to be an homage to the armored suit he had at the end of Frank Miller's Dark Knight.

Mirage employee/Mutantanimals creator Ryan Brown posted a smattering of toy concept art at lavignebrownart, but stopped a decade ago. A book called Rad Plastic is coming out that's going to have a bunch of concept art and prototypes, but preorders ended on it.

It is a little frustrating considering MOTU and other toylines are better documented. And the history is pretty neat. Mirage basically handled all the toy concepts. Peter Laird submitted his own ideas, pic related.

Yeah man, they took them right out of his house. And since his house is locked up tight and has security and whatnot he has determined that it must have been a visitor that he let in.

Mel is an old man who probably doesn't have many years left, and he said he was gonna pass these down to his grandkid. It's a real sad situation.

There was the original concept artist for the toybiz resident evil figures on here a while back. He posted all his original concepts and the thread used to be archived, but we lost it when the old archive got deleted.

My friend does the final 3d models for Hasbro, sometimes Mattel.
I found out about will smith genie from them first.
I would post the prototype work if I didn't think it could get them in shit since they work on starwars stuff now.

I have to say though, a lot of the prototype stuff looks ugly as fuck.

That sucks, but I want to thank you for introducing me to this guy's work. The website is so ancient-looking, it's funny. But the content is so beautiful! So full of soul and creativity and mashing cool stuff together. It is a treasure trove.

That's super cool. If I didn't go down my current career path, product design for toys would have been fun I'd imagine (albeit I'm sure it's not always fun). To add to that, this picture also shows how much the design evolved from the draft stage. So much better of an end product.

There's no way they'd be able to sell them though, right? I guess best case is they do try to sell them, and bam that ties it to the thief. Also can't he finger print the area and use that as proof, especially if it's someone that's never been in that case before? They would have left some form of prints. I'm sure that test is expensive and may not prove anything, but at least there would be evidence in court.

The dude's in his 80's, the thief is probably waiting for him to drop before he tries to make a move. But I doubt he'll get far since the creator cataloged everything with such detail and made it public. Once they go up somewhere there will be a lot of questions and interrogation at whoever is dumb enough to try and pass them off.

One thing I find interesting about TF concept art is that organic beastformers were considered as early as 87. Everyone thinks Beast wars was some insane outlier that was a complete desperation move but it was just a concept they had considered for a while.

Well, the aesthetics in Beast Wars are also different so I kinda get it even though I'd say they're not too far off from the more rounded Pretenders stuff. Still I really hate how TF fans decide the aesthetics are ruined every two years. G1 only lasted 6 years and in that time went from Diaclone model cars to sci-fi futuristic stuff to 80s style action figures with the Pretenders to super robot stuff in Victory. All these takes are equally valid and occurred early in the franchise history. People cry about star Saber looking like a Gundam when the diaclone non-real world vehicles looked just like him.
