Has anyone ever purchased and tried to spruce these lazy releases up with some gundam paint? How challenging is it? Sphinx looks decent, but Pumpkin would look WAY better with a few other paint apps.

If they had painted the nose it would look 1000X better. Just like Dino Thunder White missing the black on the visor completely throws the face sculpt off.

I was expecting more. Hoping they would air brush the wings like he has in his forearms. I know it wouldn't be accurate but better than all gray plastic.

Yes, I do it all the time. It is incredibly simple to do, and frankly I prefer it to if they'd have attempted the paint job and fucked it up themselves as that's harder to fix, but it's the principle of it that it's fucked up to buy an action figure you have to paint. I buy miniatures for that and they're priced differently. We're paying for paint

Curious, do you need to finish the paint at all or does just painting and letting it dry work? I take it you use Tamiya paints?

Although this thread is full of shitposting, this announcement actually got me into this line.

I think I'll get the Figuarts versions of the rangers, though, and use LC for villains. It doesn't bother me that they never finished the unmasked releases because the civilian heads on the LC figures are unusably hideous. Anyone have a pic of the figuarts next to Goldar or something?

You know what this would actually fit in better with? As an animatronic for a Riddler figure, whether an older one or one from McFarlane. The question marks on the energy effect definitely seem like something Riddler would cook up, and a sphinx is a perfect fit thematically.

Goldar is quite a lot taller than the Figuarts, because he's a little taller than the LC rangers and the LC rangers have about two heads of height on the Figuarts. For some retarded reason they've made Pumpkin Rapper and Sphinx out-of-scale massive compared to the rest of the line, so those will be unacceptably huge compared to the Figuarts

I wonder if they did this for this specific reason, that they got sick of people having the Figuarts in their displays and only buying the villains

Paintwise Pupmpkin Rapper is fine. He could use darkwash on the eyes and mouth. Sort of like Goldar overall to bring out the detail. Overall its a good figure though.

The figure is how he was on tv. Its just that people are used to the recent artwork and fan art like the funko pop with a black mouth and black eyes.

His head was obviously going to be big but bodywise neck down he shouldnt be way taller than the Power Rangers.

Can the eyes and mouth have been darker? Yes. Should they be completely black like the box art definitely not.

Not even Saban did this when adapting Kyoryuger into Dino Charge. At this rate, I think I'll just be completing the GoBus/BM team without feeling too disappointed. Provided they actually finish and maintain consistency.

They're just older SHF, so the joints don't look quite as nice as they do today, and there's not a lot of surface detail. I've had the MMPR ones since they released and they hold up mostly fine. Articulation is still nice, accessories are great, hips just look a little jank.

This is some bullshit. If Hasbro can take "artistic liberties" on roiding up bodies and shit, why can't they make the decision that makes the toy actually look good? Yeah, maybe the suit wasn't painted, but light and shadow don't react the same at different scales, and it's glaringly obvious on the figure. I don't think a single person would have complained if Pumpkin's eyes and mouth were painted in black.

This also doesn't explain King Sphinx's unpainted nose and mouth.

I know I'm not saying anything new. Everyone's pretty much saying the same thing. But man, Hasbro really killed my hype for this monster line, and it was seriously something I was super looking forward to. The lack of paint is bad enough, but I'd at least be able to compromise and paint that in myself if I really had to, but I don't have a shrink ray gun to make this scale with the other Power Rangers figures. If this really is 8 inches and not just some typo in the marketing, I'm gonna have to give these a hard pass.

other than the very slender proportions, though, when i have one side by side with my LC rangers, its no contest. LC figures are ugly because of bad paint apps, soft fuzzy sculpts on details, the thigh cuts, and the visible pins. the figuarts simply look better, even though their design is ancient.

one of the big problems with LC (not the only big problem) goes away if you have some basic painting skills from painting miniatures, or are willing to learn. it sucks that the QC on this line is so bad that it basically turns them into model kits instead of action figures, but hey, this is what we're working with. other issues aside, the sculpts on LC are quite good as a whole and when are we ever going to get another pumpkin rapper?

not to be a fag about this because i collect LC and have the figuarts, but this is really what i miss the most about the figuarts. sentai/power rangers is all about crazy hand motions and poses and the lack of hand options with LC kills the amount of expressive poses you can do with the figures. It's so absurd too considering they own the IP. There's no licensing to worry about and it generally gets by with the bare minimum amount of new tooling. It fucking sucks. At first I was excited about the increased articulation on Red's mecha.
But then I remembered that in some configurations, the Japanese one has a hard enough time holding up all the weight of the extra components with it's arms, and that's with limited articulation.
All I'm saying is, I hope those joints have some serious ratchets, or the arms are gonna have trouble holding THIS up. And that's not even considering knee stability.

Honestly not really. I'd out it below QC for lines like Marvel Legends or Black Series. You get a lot of paint issues, this is the biggest QC issue of the line. Helmets not matching across teams, mis aligned line work on the suits, completely missing paint apps. And that's not even to get into the some of the breakage issues. I've seen enough Trini's neck joint completely coming off with the head that I'm wary of headwapping mine. And then there's weird design choices like the incredibly thin wrist pegs. I wish the line had better QC but aside from a few outliers I think I'm done with the line now that I've completed MMPR.

the line has a lot of issues. if you intend on buying more from it, i suggest looking at reviews of the individual figures you're thinking about. but if you just buy sphinx and pumpkin rapper, you'll probably be fine

the quality of sphinx will probably be similar to a marvel legends BAF with some missing paint apps

the bundle might be missing some accessories from the single pack releases (or have different accessories) but unless they completely fuck up the release it should contain improvements from the current single pack releases. I am actually waiting for that before I buy any rangers myself

The metallic armor figures should've ditched the personal weapons in favor of all three Blade Blaster forms. They never used their weapons in season 3, let alone in Metallic Armor mode.

King Sphinx is not taller than Goldar. Figure wise he will tower Goldar.

The monsters should scale with Goldar and Lord Zedd. Goldar and Lord Zedd are taller than the rangers and thats in the 6 inch scale. Legacy is 6.5" scale. Lightning is 6" scale. Thats half an inch difference in scale and it shows big time!

To be a bit different I'll say McFarlane. All the different costumes details would be sculpted on, and re-use would only be used when appropriate (mainly within teams). Monster sculpts would be appropriately bigger (Todd loves MORE plastic) with detailed sculpts. I assume Zords would just be in regular assortments. Given the sub-lines for DC, I'd imagine it would be released with a general line with waves containing characters from all over the place, while there would be sub-lines either for seasons, events, or comic stuff. With so many seasons it's tough, but for any current season I'd imagine a wave or 2 would be dedicated to it, whether with a build a figure or not.

If you don't like a figure for provable reasons, then that's fine. You know, shitty joints, poor paint applications, poor articulation etc
But if the figure is provably sound, and someone still hates on it simply because of the brand, that's just a bit sad.

Personally, I think their Primaris Marine figures are excellent. Already ordered the Sister of Battle and Blood Angel Hellblaster.

According to the thread with the Hasbro employee apparently for LC stuff they started using new factories in Vietnam and that explains all the QC errors with this line. Not sure if true but a lot of the other stuff he was talking about sounded pretty legit, so I think I'm going to believe him.
