Everyone has gotten sick of seeing them every single time so from the fans of those characters (particularly the ones who want more toon-like figures) it stings because all they want is a decent fucking toy of them. Classics/Generations did a pretty good job of it at the time but for one, the designs were often pretty out there takes on the characters and many of them are pretty outdated compared to what we've gotten in the WfC trilogy, with universal ankle rockers and waste swivels (save for the ER Seekers). It's pretty clear that many of the WfC figures won't feel outdated for a long time, if ever, so many of them are going to end up being the definitive mass market versions of these characters. Fans of the G1 show cast finally have an opportunity to have that so they can finally move on but others are just straight up sick of seeing those characters.
Honestly, I blame the Prime Wars trilogy for all of this because it's where retreading the cast got so bad and virtually none of the figures were even good. It was so much "what if X characters but with Y gimmick?" which coupled with overly simple engineering, rampant retooling, and crap articulation/posability to create an extremely mediocre experience. Had this line never happened and we just went straight into WfC, I don't think folks would be complaining about retreading the same characters as much.
