>>8561303I remember growing up in the 80's my local Target had 3 full aisles just for Action Figures. G.I.Joe was my jam and it had its own aisle at one point.
Transformers, MOTU, Thundercats, Sectaurs, Visionaries, COPS, Silverhawks, Voltron, Ghostbusters, Centurions, etc. Later TMNT, Aliens, Batman, WWF, etc. All of these toylines mobbed the shelves with cards and boxes from the ground up to the ceiling (which might as well have been in space for 6 year old me). It was overwhelming, you started at your feet and could crank your head all the way back still not seeing everything.
...and that was just the Target! Every kid in my town knew that Target was good by Toys R Us was Mecca. The only problem was that Target was in a central shopping are of my little town, a 5 minute drive for most kid's parents. It was surrounded by a dress store, linens/fabrics store, home goods/tools shop, a cafe, a low fat yogurt shop, burrito place, burger joint, etc. A million incentives for most parents. The Toys R Us was almost 30 minutes away and surrounded by virtually nothing of interest, it was much harder convincing parents to make the trip. Anytime a friend announced that he was going on Saturday we'd arrange for sleepovers at their house. I don't remember a single trip that wasn't one unlucky parent acting as a shauffeur for 4 or 5 kids.
