5 POA is fine with me, and make that plastic extra sturdy. There's just something about a toy that's made to be played with that gives it an extra charm and dare I say it...soul?

Can't agree, I need some articulation. Even as a kid I knew something was up when $5 Beast Wars basics had more articulation than more expensive toys. I also enjoyed bandai figures over most other lines because Power rangers, BeetleBorgs, Masked Rider, etc all had better articulation than other toys at the same price. But I will say I don't need hyper articulation like JP imports. A cool looking toy stands on its own merits.

Objectively speaking i think some of the best and most fun toys have been what we've been getting . MOTU Origins, McFarlane, Marvel Legends have beens some of the most fun and best values we've gotten. And I say this as someone who used to only buy imports.

I actually think the sweet spot is between 5POA and Marvel Legends. Hasbro cuts the figures up so much that the sculpts look vivisected. I prefer McFarlane, in the 16-22 range, so that it looks as good as a statue but still moves.

Past a Marvel Legend, when you get into import figures, that’s just unnecessary. No one puts their figures in such extreme poses on their actual shelves. You’re paying for articulation you don’t use

5POA figures for the last 20 years have generally been made of worse and cheaper plastic than things that are engineered in current year or even the last 10, really. I like articulated toys but also love less articulated toys. Simply put, a toy does not need lots of articulation to be fun or successful or a great toy. Some of my favorite toys ever are barely more than statues and some of my favorite toys ever are more flexible than I am. The idea that a toy *must* be super articulated or it's worthless is a retarded one, and sadly one that much of /toy/ and many toy collectors in general seem to have.

5 POA is for kids who are going to actually play with their toys, and also don't have the money to waste $20+ on a single figure. Charm and le Seoul are gay ways of saying nostalgia. They are cheaply produced, and poorly sculpted. In the 90s when I was a kid who still bought toys I was bugged by the quality. Like how my Darth Vader looked like an insanely jacked bodybuilder even though in the movie he had a normal build.

Multiple points is mostly for, let's be honest, adults or at least older teenagers who want to pose them for a display. But aren't really smashing them together. And have money to blow on $80 dollar event excusive versions, because they have a job and no gf.

Personally I do not like the cheap ass retro 5 POA renaissance with 80s level tech made to make nostalgia IPs targeted at 30 year olds. But its all purely personal taste.

I probably had/have some form of autism and could tell Vader wasn't that jacked in the movies so it bugged me that my toy looked like a different guy almost.

Not trying to judge, you do you, but most adults who collect toys want something nice to look at on their shelves, to pose and take pics. After a certain age almost nobody goes full BLAM BLAM PEW PEW with their figures.

I confess, I like being able to pose a figma holding a rifle shouldered and in both hands, or a pistol gripped with two hands.

Personally I just like looking at toys, admiring the sculp and putting them in some interesting poses to look at, and then maybe in a few months changing the pose. I also sometimes take photos of them.

I'm 30 and I never really stopped playing with them. I never really smashed them together but I will divide them up into groups, make up stories in my head, pose them a couple times, then maybe I'll drop in others and just kinda have them interact, don't even bother to pose them every time. The posing kinda just gets the imagination going then the rest usually goes from there.

Somewhere in that realm really is kind of a sweet spot for toys. I really love unique molding. Things you got in Playmates TMNT or the 2002 he-man reboot. Some of those are 5POA and some are more. I remember getting a bunch of toybiz marvel figures and not really knowing who some of the characters were, but appreciating the molds.

It feels these days more and more, toys need a character presence to sell it. Yea, that's always been the tie-in, make a cartoon to sell the line. Still, it's these really notable characters get all these versions. I don't want to see really updated versions of extreme dinosaurs. They worked as they were. I would like to see more new stuff. That's too much of a "risk" to invest into for a company.

To me it's just the aesthetic. I think the modern 5POA Star Wars figures look crappier than their 90s or even 70s counterparts. I think it has to do with the way they're sculpted; the static stance given to the vintage SW figures works with the simpler, more basic sculpt, while the 90s have more dynamic sculpts as well as poses. Meanwhile the sculpts on modern 5POA SW figures are great but the paint is shit and they look weird to me when you combine all of that with the 70s style static poses.

I do have a couple old Kenner figures, and I do like 5 POA, there's charm to simplicity, which is why I also collect sofubi.

But you CANNOT play with them, I mean you can, in a sandbox, with other kid's toys, if that's what you mean, but they will now allow you the expression that modern toys allow.

You can like whatever retro shit you like, but, just admit you're a poselet and don't blame modern figures that can in fact, have more soul than your nostalgiashit.

Planet Green Valley, a pretty pricey and (currently) hard to obtain 1/18 scale line. I've literally been waiting on my preorders for like over a year and still don't have them, I don't think all the molds from wave 1 have even been released yet. Recently, you can buy figures directly from the creator but shipping is crazy and the figures are still quite pricey so I bailed on that.

I just played with some army men on my bathroom countertop last week. Ngl it was fun. I used to play with them as a kid a lot because of the 3D0 games and I only ever pose shit for my displays anymore, so making a little 5 minute battle sequence was actually really amusing. I love super articulated figures, but I can't deny that sometimes I just wanna sit down and not deal with it. 5POA can be dull in some cases, but when you just wanna sit down and PLAY, it's ideal because it's less to worry about when it comes to breaking.

fragile toys are the fucking worse, so the sweet spot for me is something like Minimates which are made of a batshit durable material

This. I spent so many years during my late teens and very early adulthood going through the "They're not toys, they collectable figures" phase and only getting the occasional, fragile collector's stuff (McFarlane, early NECA), then one day I went into a toys store and bought a plain old toy and the sense of enjoyment from just playing around with the thing was so refreshing.

They have to have a pretty decent action friendly default pose for me to the happy with low articulation. The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line did it pretty well.
Even as a kid I didn't really like playing with the guys that are just standing up straight at attention.
