Didn't watch until this year, it took too long to come out anyway. None of the momentum to carry it or hype it. Not as disappointing as Pacific Rim Uprising, but not enough SPACESHIP either.

Batman was only good in the beginning, with the rock opera. the rest of the movie just sunk a bit

Ninjago was just ok, but didnt really have the same inside references to the lego experience

2 was about playing with your sister, which i felt was relatable but ended up completely predictable

she died back in january of this year. TLM is actually one of my favorite fucking movies and i really thank her for seeing it with me, and all the other good times we had.

Probably a bit of both.
The whole brother vs sister plot didn't feel like something that'd speak to a broader audience like the father/son stuff from the original which also could be interpreted as AFOLs vs kids.

It also didn't help that it felt like 2 was pretty much the movie that 1 tried to avoid to be.
Sets and models just appeared in the movie because they had to be sold, like the Thricycle that did nothing and was only in for 15 seconds and some scenes flat out felt like advertising like the tour bus opening up, because hey, that's something the set can do - only 99.95!
Also really didn't like the musical aspect of it - "Everything is Awesome" worked due to its plot relevancy and more "sinister" undertones in 2 most of the songs felt like they were in because little girls like Finn's little sister Bianca like Disney musicals, I guess.

Lego Movie 2 was originally going to be played fairly straight.

Then feminists got angry at The Lego Movie for some dumb reason and they rewrote Lego Movie 2 to be more left leaning. They shoved in a RBG cameo for this reason along with making Rex a more clearer villain (Though admittedly still more sympathetic than his bitch of a sister) rather than just a comedic stereotype of an action hero.

The main reason The Lego Movie 2 flopped is because of it being released so far apart and the marketing suggesting the movie was trying to promote feminism and female empowerment.

Nobody wanted a movie focusing around the gender dynamics of how kids play with one another, especially after the first movie's sly jabs at corporations and how working life strips people of youth/creativity.

the movie bombed because literally nobody knew that it was coming out and it came after multiple spin offs so of course audiences were exhausted, i don't think it had to shit to "left leaning" ideals because normies simply don't care about that

I haven’t seen it sense theaters but it still burned into my brain.
Also I like how when every time a sequel is bad the first response is it was ruined by an agenda and not the fact the main creative force was changed.
Haven’t seen LEGO movie 2 so it very well could be feminists propaganda for all I know but I think not having lord and Miller write and direct was fucking autistic especially since they’ve seen to have a midus touch lately
