Jeez I finally recognized what we are missing in nowadays Lego.
ITS NOT ENOUGH BLOCKY, that makes it look more charming. Especialy those great translucent panels and windshields.
Nowdays Lego uses rounded shit which looks way more Toyish.

Admittedly, I am a poorfag and couldn't afford one but I agree it is triggering and I think it's more complicated like you describe. People are like "My first LEGO model since I was a kid!" Guaranteed to end up in pieces in storage gathering dust, or be sold on ebay in a few years. Maybe never even assembled.

now that's a SPACESHIP. I should post mine - that's the other reason I have no love for the Falcon. This sort of stuff is way cooler and deserves more attention. Sequels ruined the franchise as well.

For its price, it's pretty small and I've never been a fan of stickers (the most vital show references are stickers) but it imitates the Sesame Street look really well and it wouldn't look too out of place in a City display.

I wouldn't be surpised if it was due to stability issues.
The balljoint of the feet section for example is simply connected to the back with nothing securing it so there's probably a high chance that the feet come off when playing with or posing it.

I have one of those Finch Dallow ones from the resistance bomber set. I got two of them because Lego would just give you one if you'd bought the set before they updated it with that minifig. I sold one, and probably will end up selling the other. I think they're $80 or $100 CAD.

Sweet Mayhem is the only mini doll allowed on my display. Every other mini doll has their hair removed and gets put in the storage bag.

I use the hair pieces for minifigs since they fit them as well.

Won't dump all the sketch builds I have saved but here's one for KKII. Originally there were going to be giant spiders (also shown in the concept art) but for some unknown reason they were scrapped and replaced with a Shadow Knight.

When I've been archiving all this stuff Mark Stafford's flickr is a good place for SPIII, Mars Mission, Agents, Power Miners, Chima, and Atlantis sketch builds. He has the username nabii.

When attaching this kind of window "glass" into the frames do you anons make sure that the copyright and part # text is oriented in the correct direction so it is not upside down? Do you also perform a second check to make sure that the text is on the inside of the frame? Is that considered just as austistic as making sure the Lego logo on all the studs are all oriented in the same direction? Or is this not quite as autistic?

13h for building + extra 3 hours for destruction/apocalypse.

Octopus and candy facotry
Zombie attack (very lame, also almost unfinished build)
Sea-thing ruined by tornado (building was nice, destruction poor)
Two generic glass buildings destroyed by generic monsters.
One nice seaside hotel but destruction was almost non-present.

Overall zero creativity (apart from blue octopus - btw this one did not win), uninspired, dull, repetitive and fragile (one of them literally collapsed during the show off) and very poor opening episode.

This also deserves a remake. However it is a pretty easy color swap of pieces on the existing Slave 1 models. In fact I'm currently in the process of color swapping the 20th Anniversary Slave 1. Its been easy so far. The biggest hurdle so far is that I haven't found a satisfying substitute for pic related in blue without having to slightly redesign those areas of it. Not a huge issue but it just means I'm going to have to put in a little more than a passive effort.

Finishing up my Heroes of Might and Magic 2 architecture thing. I was out of ideas for the swamp, so I don't like it much. Same with the main tower of the castle, never found a solution that I was satisfied with. Everything else turned out nice, especially the nest and the dragon tower.

Why do they pick garish colors for the internal pieces (which are sometimes still exposed from some angles)?
Is it really so bad to pick a color that exists in the set's color palette? I know it's to make pieces easier to find but surely that can still be accomplished by choosing a color which hasn't been used for pieces of that type?

Just go to a store and see what interests you. Building sets from instructions can give you an idea of how to make your own stuff and spark creativity. There isn't a wrong place to start (with a few exceptions like duplo and galidor) since all sets can be disassembled and rebuilt into whatever you want.
As a kid, I started with secondhand pieces from many used sets in the form of a bulk haul from a thrift store. You can find old collections on eBay easily, although fair warning, they are usually full of off-brand parts as well.
Also, don't use the word blocks to describe Lego bricks or you'll be skinned alive by the community. The plural of Lego is Lego, too.

get a few sets, i recommend creator sets since they have great value, the basic block sets while good value also, have 20 different colors so they arent great for cohesive color schemes.
get familiar with different pieces and how to use them, plan out and prototype what you want to build, and if you need a specific piece you dont have or dont have enough of, use bricklink.com to buy more of specific pieces and/or minifigures
you can make good looking builds without much experience, but there are some advanced building techiques that take lots of practice and parts knowledge to master

Oh, and although this might not apply to you currently, I've recently learned that not caring about color cohesion is acceptable when planning out a set. Basically, you can 'sketch' the form a design with the limited parts you have, and then go back later when you have the colors and specific pieces you desire. You can learn more techniques and improve with building much faster if you aren't as focused on how the final product looks, if that makes sense. So, throw everything at the wall and grow from experience.

I'd start small, and use the building techniques/pieces/structures to form a motif along subthemes within your world. Oh boy, are you lucky I happen to be browsing in these parts. If it has to be greys, then go with the hidden side castle. That's going to be the easiest conversion. If you are willing to look at brick yellow (aka tan), then for sure go with Harry Potter stuff. The main reason to go with Harry Potter is that you'll be getting more castle chunks for years. You can add on to your brick yellow castle and maybe some of the figures will be useful for your setting. If you're really bold, sell the figures to get more bricks later. Honorable mentions would be Ninjago and Disney. Ninjago has a few castle-like sets at the moment and the enemies are always good for D&D type baddies. Disney has a lot of really serviceable castle parts if you can deal with the colors. Aurora's Forest Cottage is basically just asking for you to swap a few colors out and have a nice medieval hovel.

Based Castle anon. To add to your last line though, the markup on SW sets usually doesn't make them a worthwhile investment for parts unless the minifigs have a decent market, which tends to be hit or miss.

Okay, so my office has a really really big Lego fan working there. Like even more of a fan than I.

By a stroke of luck I pulled his name out of the hate for the Secret Santa. Now we also happen to work for a company handling Christmas themed events. Our "upper" limit is £10, and I'm not sure what to get him that's Lego, and Christmas themed. Do you have any ideas?

For a castle?
Not really afaik, the interior isn't grey only, it's colourful (might be wrong tough)

No idea what you plan, but I'd say get the basic bricks you need from pick a brick or other places, and it should be ok

Some other anon recommended the Hidden-Side castle
Bowsers castle also have some parts which could be used (but a little bit overpriced)
